  1. I've not tried the Bakery on Main bars, but I tried one of their granolas and didn't like it. It was a while back, so I don't remember if it made me sick or not. But, what Patti said goes for Perky's, too. Perky's makes me feel really gross for a couple hours... blech! Open Original Shared Link
  2. YAY!!!! I'm so glad it turned out for you. That stuff is fantastic!!! It didn't last any time in our house. What ratio did you use of flour/starch? I've gotten so reliant on Fenster's blend that I'm worried I'll never branch out...
  3. For baking, I generally have good success with Ener-G egg replacer. Sometimes I find that I have to add a couple tablespoons more liquid to make the egg equivalent.
  4. My doc wanted me to do it, too. We didn't quite see the same way on this issue, but he respected my decision not to. I was finally getting better and seeing real progress... I wasn't going backward. He wanted me to eat it for a month, but he was even skeptical that much could be seen after only one month on gluten after being gluten-free for 6 months. He...
  5. HANDS DOWN, FAVORITE part of the article!! What pathologist wouldn't have been embarrassed that a teenage girl in a high school class found something he missed... I hope her parents got their money back
  6. I am IgA deficient, too, and unfortunately, my doc did not test the IgG markers. From what my own research and my GI have confirmed, in someone with an IgA deficiency, the IgG test is acceptable in the diagnostic process. In her situation, I would be surprised if the doc did not recommend a gluten-free diet if the IgG markers came back elevated. There is...
  7. I was diagnosed with gastritis at the beginning of last year. I am pretty sure it was related to a glutening, I was just so new to the diet I didn't realize it at the time. The doc put me on pepcid and told me to avoid dairy, alcohol, and eating too much until it calmed down.... What worked for me: I ate bland food, and did take the pepcid for a couple...
  8. I've been wondering the same thing, and sadly, haven't come up with anything other than lots of hot sauce... I find them to be pretty unpalatable, too.
  9. The thought has crossed my mind...
  10. So, I'm not sure how long you've been gluten-free, but it just occurred to me while re-reading this thread that in the beginning, everything hurt me for a bit. Some of my major symptoms stopped almost immediately, but my gut felt like it was on a fire for a bit, didn't matter what I ate. Just a thought...
  11. My baking supplies: sorghum flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch, xanthan gum, egg replacer, and yeast. Those I try to never run out of... other than that, I'm not much into the other specialty products. Everything else is what I ate to begin with; fresh fruits, veggies, and meat.
  12. I've seen it in the refrigerated part of the produce area, while at Whole Foods it's on the shelf with the rice, and yet another store on the bottom shelf in the pasta area.
  13. And then you are angry for the week after, swearing you'll NEVER do it again... LOL Patti, about the apple cider vinegar... ironically, when I get glutened, I drink some with water with just about every meal. It seems to calm my stomach for some reason; strange, I know. I stick with Bragg's, too.
  14. It could be, or you could be reacting to something else in the cereal. For a long time, I thought I was being glutened by frozen waffles and a specific brand of cereal. Then I realized that I can't do soy, and both had soy in them. I also learned much better what my true gluten reaction was. That alone can take some time.
  15. That sounds really good. Is it like cooking risotto... you have to stir constantly? Just want to know if I ever decide to make it what I could be getting myself into.
  16. If it contained a wheat coating, it would by law be required to be listed, as wheat is one of the top 8 allergens and must be disclosed.
  17. Have you tried Whole Foods? or maybe Harmony Farms in Raleigh? There is a place on their website that you can request a list of where their products are sold in a specific area. Open Original Shared Link
  18. I broke down and started making my own bread. The easiest I've found so far is Whole Foods brand Sandwich Bread mix. It's soft, holds up well, and super easy to make, and doesn't require a loan to purchase (somewhere around $3.99 as opposed to $5 or 6.99)
  19. Let me know how it turns out! I was kind of worried about posting it, since I had only made it once gluten-free. But it turned out soooo good, I just had to share!
  20. I was secretly hoping this damn disease would 'reset' Wishful thinking, I know. I would be happy with a lesser reaction time. Thrilled!!
  21. My friend has recurring h pylori issues... so I understand your frustration with the antibiotic treatment. I think she's been on abx a couple of time, and it keeps flaring back up. I think she finally is looking into some alternate treatments, and changing some of the things that she is eating. Anyway, to your question: Did you get a copy of the blood...
  22. That sounds YUM! I think I'm going to have to give that a try. I'm in a cereal kick with berries right now, but it won't last long. Do you parboil the potatoes first or just cut them small enough to saute?
  23. I do the same exact thing... it doesn't usually work out well for me either. My downfall is usually trying a new restaurant or take out. I'm wondering how much longer I'll do this until I learn... And I only think my sensitivity has dropped because I'm pregnant. (I understand that's not all that uncommon) I got glutened early on, and my reaction lasted...
