  1. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE Trader Joe's... AND they're opening one 5 minutes down the rd from me in jan... YAY! Right now I'm driving about 25 min. Anyway, what I stock up on: Goat cheese Hummus Frozen chimichurri salmon/ahi tuna steaks Rice Dried cranberries/blueberries Agave Nectar (it's half the price there) Lara Bars Peach Salsa YUM! Rice...
  2. Thanks We have family there and grew up going to OBX. I'll keep that in mind for our next trip.
  3. Great to know!! Two questions: You went to a reception there? Was it dressy or like a casual beach reception? Is it on the beach rd or the main rd?
  4. Hi and Welcome!!! This site has a lot of recipes (in particular, sickchick posts a lot that sound terrific, i've tried a few and they are really good.) Just do a quick search and you'll find them. I too am a HUGE fan of Karina, so I check her out frequently. I also bought a gluten-free vegan cookbook since I am allergic to eggs and can't do dairy, and...
  5. Yeah, the one here in Raleigh, NC advises to avoid the seasoning on the fries as well. I read over the salt on the table, and thought it to be fine, but if they tell me to avoid it, I do. Perhaps they use a different seasoning when they prepare them as what is on the table??? I don't know, just a thought. Didn't make much sense to me either.
  6. Welcome to the forum!! Well, according to your blood work, your test is negative. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean you don't have Celiac. Testing can only confirm, not rule out, as the tests can be negative... mine were. Have you already tried the gluten-free diet? That can also have a bearing on the results of your test. If you haven't tried it, that's...
  7. Hi there and welcome! My most serious symptom was headache/fatigue. My mom swore up and down I didn't have Celiac b/c I didn't have diarrhea. The list of symptoms is long, not necessarily GI either. Another lady I know with Celiac only got tested because of unexplained weight loss. Gluten doesn't make her feel sick at all.
  8. I would really love to know. That's the first time I've ever seen that website, very interesting. There's some unaccounted for variables, but assuming it's sensitive enough to pick up one drop of blood, that's essentially what dr's test for. Keep us posted!
  9. That's exactly what the PA that took my blood said. "We're checking for antibodies, they're always in your blood." How did I know my panel was going to be negative? Despite that, I go to the same GP (NOT the PA) because I really like her. I just refuse to see the PA. But my GP sent me to a wonderful GI, and that has really made the difference. ...
  10. If you are in the States, caramel coloring is generally safe. It is usually made from corn; rarely from barley. You could always double check with the company to be sure.
  11. That would explain why I felt so stinking sick the last time I ate pancakes. Serves me right, though. Lesson learned. Liz
  12. I have a bread maker, but used it in my gluten days... so needless to say I don't use it. But there are a lot of folks on here who bake bread, hopefully they'll give you some info. I don't really miss bread much, and when I do, I go buy a loaf of Kinnickinnick as a treat. I also bought a book called The Gluten Free Vegan for ideas to be DF/EF (I am allergic...
  13. I try to be CF too... although it's a new goal everyday that I wake up. (see my signature ) Enjoy life brands has cookies and snack bars that I think are pretty good. They make chocolate chips that are DF if you want to bake with them or snack on them as I do. You have to investigate crackers, because some of them have milk products as part of...
  14. I had the gene test done. My GP wouldn't do because she said the insurance won't pay for it unless it's done by a GI. My GI ordered it for the same reason; I was gluten-free for 6 months and didn't want to start over again. It's a simple blood test; I went to the hospital right down the road from me to their lab and was in and out. I heard back from him...
  15. Do you have a source for that? Vanillin is on the safe list on this website and a few others I have searched.
  16. Maple Butter @ $9.99 a jar. But it is soooo good and worth it. My big splurges are coffee (no cheap stuff for me), organic produce, and avocadoes. They are pretty expensive here on the east coast. But I can't live without them!!!!
  17. Welcome to the board!!! Um... there are some definite Celiac symptoms going on. Is this your first child? Have you just started to recently developing these problems? (Like as in, after the birth of your child?) My Celiac was most likely triggered by my pregnancy. If that was the case for you, it's still relatively new. As I understand, the blood...
  18. They need to do an endoscopy to look for Celiac. A colonoscopy will rule out other things, but Celiac affects the small intestine.
  19. My doctor uses Prometheus. I believe that there are only 3 labs int the US that are capable of doing this test: Enterolab (which is still controversial), Prometheus and Kimball. (If I'm wrong on that, I apologize and please correct me) The next question is how much will my insurance pay???
  20. I'm with Patti on this one. I was relieved. But I'm opposite... I am only 26 and thought that if this was what my life was going to be like, I didn't want to live it. Being sick everday, too tired to do anything, and even if I wasn't sleeping my life away, I had begun to lose interest in most everything, so.... yeah, finding out that gluten was the problem...
  21. First of all, welcome to the board!!! Second, you need another Dr or nurse practitioner. They're treating the symptoms only, which is sadly very common. Daily stool softeners and laxatives will make your body dependent on them... you think you can't go now, keep that up for a while and you'll never be able to go on your own. Take some probiotics. They...
  22. I've not tried the SCD, but I also haven't pushed it out of thought yet... I try not to do dairy either. I tried some coconut milk yogurt and it was SOOOO good. Personally, coconut milk soothes my stomach.
  23. I wasn't aware that they had soft corn shells. Is that new?
  24. Shay, have you found that to be helpful? I eat out at Chipotle, but I can see exactly what goes on there and know their cooking process. It's at nice restaurants that I usually get nailed. The OD at the health food store nearby suggested it, but I haven't tried it yet. I do understand it's not a take it, eat whatever floats your boat type thing, but to help...
