You can bake gluten free in the microwave and make yourselves some really nice baking soda/vinegar leavened mini loaves very quickly. Ceramic dishes work really well, such as mini casseroles or ramekins, mugs, soup/cereal bowls. I like to measure out ingredients for more than one at a time, and put the 2nd set of dry ingredients in a ziplock baggie or...

There are online doctor rating forums where you can report your experiences with incompetent or malicious doctors, plus your state will have a medical licensing board, plus your insurance carrier may not be pleased that they are reimbursing a dangerously incompetent doctor. I had a malicious neurologist lie to me to my face in an office visit about test...

ARCHIVED Gluten Symptoms After First Time Eating Gluten Free Breads?
Takala replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To the original poster on the original topic: I have been gluten free for going on nine years and eating my own gluten free baked things mostly, because of problems with ingredients in commercially made gluten free goods. When I tried the BRM cornbread product last year, I had major problems with it. I then tried using a BRM "corn flour" after I recovered... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Understanding Follow-Up Bloodwork Results
Takala replied to BrookeT's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you do try the SCD diet and respond well, you may then eventually heal up enough that you can reintroduce some other gluten free foods with starch, again. Such as brown rice, gluten-free beans, etc. As long as you don't go crazy overboard with it. (and I am speaking from experience, not as a hypothetical or theory.) Also, keep in mind that some of... -
I realize you think it is your "duty" or "job" here to always defend vendors, but contrary to your insult, I do "do your research" before bothering to comment. The original poster posted incorrect information if taken at face value - that Starbucks served Tazo Tea that was "safe" in the wrapped teabag packages, and therefore "gluten free." This is...

ARCHIVED Doctor Visit Today - Totally Mortified (:
Takala replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Don't be mortified. You can still have both celiac, DH,and the scabies. If it is the scabies. Animals, especially farm animals, dogs, and livestock and horses, can get this sort of thing or something else weird, all the time. We have to, especially in these warmer climates, worm and treat for fleas, ticks, & parasites prophylactically all the... -
ARCHIVED Lame Things I'm Mourning!
Takala replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had an ancient toaster oven that still worked perfectly, (probably an early '70's era model) that I had gotten second hand around 34 years ago, and at the time I was told the gluten toaster had to go it still worked better than any of these newer ones I've used to replace it since. I had actually received a new one as a gift in the 1980's that didn't work... -
Does Anyone Know How To Kill Or "inactivate" Gluten?
Takala replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Re the rubbing alcohol - It's like antifreeze, it tastes sweet, but it's poison. The bleach and ammonia are obviously very bad smelling, and people don't spread them around because they are so caustic. One would really not be wanting to soak a porous kitchen utensil in a poisonous substance to "sanitize" it of gluten proteins, not that it would... -
Does Anyone Know How To Kill Or "inactivate" Gluten?
Takala replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rubbing alcohol is terribly poisonous.... don't use this where pets could possibly ingest it, or small children. How about potato vodka or everclear ? -
Some of the Tazo tea flavors are not gluten free.

ARCHIVED Could It Be?
Takala replied to Carolmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Aveno has oats. Regular Oats are cross contaminated with wheat. Even with specially grown/prepared gluten-free oats, a significant percentage of celiacs and gluten intolerants react to oat proteins as if they were wheat. Stop using Aveno. -

ARCHIVED Do gluten-free Flours Really Need To Be Refrigerated?
Takala replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Depends on your climate- if I'm paying all this money for this gluten free stuff, I want to keep it from going buggy or rancid, and in warmer climates that means refrigeration or freezing for stuff not being used quickly, especially if it is the specialty stuff like nuts. We also, because of our whacked out weather the past year, have had a ferocious... -
ARCHIVED Can Gluten Sensitivity Go Away?
Takala replied to basilicious's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So you're a Q2.... Don't forget to get your own butter with that new toaster ! Some of us have a gluten free household, because it is easier to bake that to segregate. -
ARCHIVED Need Help Understanding Follow-Up Bloodwork Results
Takala replied to BrookeT's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Keep up the good work, and go by how you feel and react to what you eat. -
ARCHIVED Elemental Diet Suggestions?
Takala replied to Syl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You HAVE TO GET THE LYME DISEASE TREATED or nothing else will work. Go to your county health clinic and ask where to apply for charitable treatment, if you must, or get on state medicaid, or even move to a different state. -
Can you mail- order safe food from other places in the EU or the USA ? How about some canned chicken or tuna ?

ARCHIVED A Bunch Of New Stuff I Need Help With...
Takala replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Long answer or short answer ? Short. If Doctor is actually saying that, = idiot. Long. So far your cheating on gluten has caused your thyroid to fail. Keep it up and your continuing malnutrition damage will cause the pancreas and the mind will go, once that's gone, you won't be able to take care of yourself and your body will continue to break down... -
ARCHIVED Tendons And Join Problems
Takala replied to LaydeeDi16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My feet and ankles swell up when I am glutened, and it is always worse on one side than the other. I am also stuck with a sort of perpetual, rotating inflammation of the tendon attachment points, which is a "feature, not a bug" of the type of arthritis I have. I have, however, developed other intolerances to things that are NOT gluten, and they also... -
For me this "vertigo" is caused by gluten ataxia. I also had other neurological symptoms which the doctors blew off or attempted to attribute to other diseases, which I then would not have, when they bothered to test me. Most of it has resolved by sticking to a strict gluten free diet. I self diagnosed as at least gluten intolerant after the Neurologist...

ARCHIVED Crock Pot Contamination
Takala replied to Mom2Will's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Our cats, indoors and out, eat gluten free, soy free food to minimize the chance of cross contaminating our dog with the wheat allergy and the horse with the rye/soy/barley family problem. Given that the indoor cat also sleeps on the bed and licks people, besides licking herself so the saliva residue is everywhere, this is a no- brainer. All my cats looked... -
ARCHIVED Diet And Test Results
Takala replied to addis001's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Make them give you the test results in written form. Not unusual to throw a negative blood test but have positive diet response. -
Anti - depressants are addictive. Some people like the buzz and the "don't have to care anymore" feeling. The gut makes the brain chemicals which supposedly makes our moods bearable - sick gut = bad mood. This is why most celiacs benefit from a gluten free multivitamin including the B complex, or taking extra B vitamins on top of that, along with calcium...

ARCHIVED Feeling Like There Is Not Much Light At The End Of The Tunnel...
Takala replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love that paper, but, as a person with the ataxia & brain damage and the initial lack of gut symptoms that Dr Hadjivassiliou is writing about, I just read the thing quickly, and.... I don't think it says what you think it does. But it should be REQUIRED READING for any neurologist and gastro doc. For anyone who feels faint and queasy...
