  1. Please get the test results in writing from this doctor's office when they come back, instead of just accepting the nurse's message over the telephone. She can do the biopsy in the wrong way to sabotage it, and then you have a negative result which validates her initial assessment. Also, take pictures of your rash, while you still have it. You...
  2. LOL. More CYA by Alice Bast and NFCA after the Domino's Pizza Debacle and their "Amber" designation. Look carefully at the mistake with this quote from that link: If you read that literally, she's saying that individuals with gluten - related disorders won't be able to expect a meal that's safe to eat. Well DUH, Ms. Bast and NFCA...
  3. It is highly unlikely. The symptoms match celiac. The family history says much higher probability than general population. It is the only auto immune disease whose symptoms can be controlled by a diet change. You've dodged a bullet if you can stop the complications from developing now. Or I could give you a list of what she has to look forward...
  4. It's like playing "whack-a-mole" with these chain restaurant menus and their jumping onto the gluten free marketing bandwagon during Celiac Awareness Month. See the 2nd page of the link above, dated 5/23/12, which seems to go into more detail than what I saw yesterday on what Chevy's is up to. Open Original Shared Link See my rebuttal to the first...
  5. Domino's Pizza which they are calling "gluten free," is not really gluten free because only the crust is, the toppings will be cross contaminated from the other's Domino's ingredients, and the work space and utensils used on them. That is all you need to know.
  6. Many people become more sensitive to gluten over time, once they are off of it, no one yet understands why this happens, but it is real.
  7. It says at the bottom of your posts that you have PCOS, which means you are likely insulin- resistant and will not do well on a high carbohydrate diet, which is typical of regular vegetarians. In the beginning of going gluten free, I was so bad off with inflammation from arthritis, that I had to go grain free on a modified Specific Carbohydrate Diet for...
  8. The Husband. We do have a dishwasher, now, but we have lived in a lot of places in the past that did not have one. Then we've been on really cranky septic systems that made scheduling the dishwasher interesting, after I had pre rinsed and pre scrubbed the stupid dishes going into it, to the extent it was more to just get them off the counter and...
  9. NFCA is tweeting this as of 7 hours ago (that would be around 11 am Pacific Daylight time Tues May 22nd) in response when somebody sees what is currently on the Domino's website and inquires about this supposed NFCA "Gluten Free Ingredients" rating" I bolded or colored the actual conversations that I expanded and copied here, so they are reading top down...
  10. Okay, I went to the basic Chevy's website and could not find any information about a gluten free menu. I did find that the company was sold to another one earlier this year. I then used the power of the google to find 'gluten free Chevy's menus.' I found the OLD gluten free menu suggestions, which are basically for people who are not sensitive, saying...
  11. Sweetie, you need to be buying paper towels in bulk. Paper towels are your Very Best Kitchen Friend. For what you spend on just one trip to the pharmacy, you can buy a year's worth of pick-a-sizes that you can pull off a whole or partial paper towel. That and you put whatever sort of safe soap (I have extremely sensitive skin) in an extra pump dispenser...
  12. Easier to pop a pill than to change eating habits.
  13. I had so much smoke coming out of my ears after seeing that NFCA amber logo on the original Domino's video introducing their Gluten Free In Name Only Pizza, (GFINOP) I told myself I had better wait a few days before even trying to draft a blog about this because it goes over better to not set off the smoke alarms. Then they started retreating before I got...
  14. Yes, it was not as annoying as some quotes from registered dieticians. But does it ever occur to them that some of us handle (make use of) fat better than sugars or substitute grains ? I have been experimenting with myself on what sorts of food works before exercise. Much to their dismay, I can still confirm that 'carbohydrates only' before is...
  15. Link in original quote is 404 not found error. Had to dig around for awhile to see what was really going on. The "pop-up" lawsuit may be to get Senator Hatch to issue a public statement or opinion on the FDA's proposed gluten free labeling law during an election cycle. .....and he did.
  16. Some of your "medical field" family members may darn well know that a celiac has a much higher probability of having celiac or gluten intolerant relatives, and they may be doing the ostrich thing as a defensive mechanism, because of their love of cupcakes or beer or whatever - and a few matching symptoms.
  17. Enjoy Life chocolate chips are made in a dedicated facility, and are nearly as neutral as one can get for the major allergens. They also can be cleverly melted in the microwave, spread on rice cakes, or on other gluten free things like biscotti or pancakes, and mixed with other gluten free things like nuts, coconut, etc. For example, say you feel sorry...
  18. Forgot to add, if he is that sensitive, if you have any pets, you should switch them to gluten free, barley free, oat free (regular oats are cross contaminated) pet foods. On this you have to read the label. With some brands, I have seen a LOT of mis- labeled pet foods, where the front of the bag proudly proclaims "Gluten Free !" as a marketing gimmick...
  19. Think of it as a shopping opportunity. Plus, somebody out there may need your old stuff. Suck it up and replace the non stick pans. Stainless steel is your new very best friend and will last a very long time. The one essential is the good size frying pan, so you know you have something you can always cook gluten free safely in. If you have...
  20. Oh, this is both wonderful and hilarious. NFCA ditches Amber designation, aka NFCA learns running the yellow light thru the restaurant intersection does not result in fewer accidents, and Chuck- E- Cheese kicks Domino's derriere on a gluten standard. ______ edit to add: See this link, this is a very good article on the continued...
  21. It takes most people years to develop enough damage that it shows up in different body systems. Eggs could be a sign of your gall bladder/liver is very upset with you, because they are full of fat. Off of gluten, eating fat (like gluten free versions of muffins, doughnuts, etc) can be easier because the gall bladder and liver are working better.
  22. Don't bother going through "The Ritual" with this doctor, if she is already pushing the IBS diagnosis. Find one who is versed (knowledgable) in celiac and gluten intolerance without the specific celiac diagnosis, or will at least humor you. My current primary care physician falls into this category, because I had such a bad experience with other doctors...
  23. Welcome. Both kinds of tests, the blood tests and the endoscopy biopsy, can sometimes miss. The damage is patchy and they may not take enough samples. (False positives on blood tests, however, are rare.) Stay on gluten until testing is done. You then may want to trial going gluten free, even if your test(s) are negative, because of your symptoms and...
  24. I don't understand this. Why would any 4 year old need to have no fruit ? Call the doctor's office back.
  25. Hey, DH, aka Dermatis Herpetiformus, is diagnosed via a skin biopsy taken NEXT TO, not directly on, an active lesion. Open Original Shared Link A positive biopsy is considered a positive diagnosis of celiac disease. Very fair complected (light skin) is a typical sign of carrying the celiac genes. In family portraits, we tend to be the...
