  1. Really. It's like there's a secret society of them which is determined to not diagnose people. Pardon me, I wasn't skeletal and I had neuropathy and was falling over my own feet literally so therefore it just couldn't be that ! blah, blah, blah. To original poster. You were diagnosed, so stop eating the ****ed gluten ! None of us get to "100%...
  2. Oh, there are so many different ways to cross contaminate by relatives, I won't list them or I would be contributing to generalized paranoia. Watch this. This is at my house by my otherwise sainted spouse. I just found out he's been using the kitchen sponge scrubbie on the dish he eats out of, with the ONE THING we still have in the house, that I...
  3. The devil is in the details,so it is said. Age of patients when they started the gluten free diet, average, is about 69. And they had been on it an average of 5.5 years? That is rather a late start. I would be more worried about the myriad side effects from all the "maintenance" meds that are shoved upon the American populace as soon as...
  4. 1. Modified food starch, in the United States. We have had this conversation before. I wish I had saved the thread. It is possible that the modified food starch can contain gluten, although it is unlikely, because of a loophole in the labeling laws for the USDA vs. the FDA. The rules differ for the 2 govt. agencies. I have had people jumping up and down...
  5. Is this the same gasto doc as also did not diagnose your six year old son ?
  6. Same tests, different shorthand. The "anti" is short for antibodies, as in it is measuring the body's response to certain proteins. While celiac cannot be ruled out 100% because a certain percentage of tests are false negatives, it is less likely.... however..... What is important is his response to the gluten free diet, if it works, keep doing it...
  7. This advice is based on my personal experience. Every doctor I have gone to has not suspected celiac or gluten intolerance was causing my chronic kidney problems/infections before I went gluten free. They did not test for it. They never found anything wrong with my kidney function, bladder, or anything else, and only found idiopathic (cause unknown)...
  8. Doctors diagnose by test results and if those test results don't show a certain thing, they cannot formally diagnose. This means blood tests should show a certain level of antibodies to the wheat family of proteins, and immune reactions, and the lining of the small intestine should show damage. However, there are plenty of people around (myself included...
  9. Welcome to the healthier part of the rest of your life ! 2 months....... may be the land speed record, or for Guinness Book of World Records.
  10. Those were good tests, in combination, but read here: and here: Open Original Shared Link There are plenty of people around who never got a "formal" diagnosis because they didn't throw a proper blood test. Yet they had matching symptoms for celiac and gluten intolerance, and much documented damage which matches the disease. Don...
  11. Oh, that is rough. Okay, let's look at 2 things. One, let's see how and if you're still getting accidentally cross contaminated with gluten. How supportive are your relatives that you are currently staying with with this "diet change" regimen, and are they taking it seriously ? Because it is really difficult sometimes for the older generation to...
  12. Welcome. They used to think that children outgrew this. They don't.
  13. One question: did this Endo doc, in the past, run a celiac blood panel on you, and it came out negative ? If so, that may be why she is being a PIA. Otherwise, refusing to test, with symptoms, is malpractice. Second question: Do you have access to another doctor who can treat your Hashimoto's, or must you use this Endo doc ? Even if you find...
  14. That quote is from Michael Pollan, the food writer for the NYTimes and the author of The Omnivore's Dilemma. Unfortunately Pollan, as of October 2011, was not able to get away from his preconceptions and love of bread when he gave this answer to the query... He's.... dubious. More recently Pollan, who is the darling of the East...
  15. Take a deep breath and pause.... you are far, far more likely to be celiac than to have a rare cancer. Sometimes the biopsies miss the damage. SOME doctors still will not give a solid diagnosis because of that, but this is slowly changing. So, based on the doctor's first recommendation, after your very high antibodies in the blood, after the rest of...
  16. In the year 1974, the world's population was 3.9 billion, and the plant breeding lobby told us if we did not embrace vegetarianism and certain plant breeding practices, the world was going to face mass starvation. It is now 38 years later. The world's population is now aprox. 7 billion, which means it has nearly DOUBLED, or is scheduled to double during...
  17. This is an exact copy of the same poorly written misinformation I critiqued and rebutted here earlier: It deliberately misleads the reader by using quotes from wheat lobby affiliated "experts" which are designed to cast gluten free as a fad diet and the number of people who need it are deliberated undercounted. I expect more from an agent...
  18. Attention fellow and sister celiacs and gluten intolerants, We could really use some pushback on this medically and scientifically in accurate media blitz which is promoting false information on wheat and celiac. I commented on Kara Rowe, the Washington Wheat Grower's director, on the other thread. Rowe is a normal person who went gluten free for 1...
  19. Wow, where do we start with that wretched piece of misinformational lobbying by Big Ag ? Monsanto and like bio-engineering corporations are attempting to force Europe and Africa to accept GMO wheat as the "solution," so the American wheat lobby is using ignorant people like this Federal Ag Extension Agent Lois Illick (that is the USDA's farmer's outreach...
  20. I am only speaking for myself when I give an opinion. I did not give an opinion earlier on this thread. Because I had to compose myself first. I honestly do not comprehend why anyone with this story would put their child back on gluten..... I have seen and read here of other people doing this, with the same eventual dismal result. I hope this child...
  21. .... and you may want to check the current gluten free status of the Carnation Instant Breakfast, which is really just dried milk powder, sugar, and flavorings, but some flavors are gluten bearing the last time I checked. Hmmphfff. Already on zantac.... yup, that's MedicineUSA, treat the symptoms, miss the cause....
  22. Ditto to what Teri Lou said in the bottom of the quote above. After this round of tests, no matter what the results, you should trial a gluten free diet, based on his symptoms, his one positive blood test, ( a red flag,) and his lack of growth. Children grow so quickly, that within a few months it will be easy to see a difference. This GI doc could...
  23. My cat was cross contaminating our wheat- allergic dog by drinking out of his water dish, before we changed her over to other brands of wheat and gluten- free cat food. He is very sensitive and will lick himself a nasty raw hot spot in a matter of hours if he gets anything with wheat, barley, or oats in it - if he isn't puking all over the house. This...
  24. Well, that was kind of the nurse from the GI's office to bother to call you with a positive biopsy report, since you're paying for their summer vacation. Now, go to the nice office and get hard copies of the test results (somebody has them...... ) and copy those, keeping a set for yourself, and schlepp the things over to your General Practitioner....
  25. No. There is a neurological form of celiac/gluten intolerance which mimics MS so much, that some of us were misdiagnosed for decades. I have some problems with heat intolerance, but it is because I don't sweat enough because I probably have Sjogren's, altho the idiotic cheap rheumatologists I saw did a blood test for that, too, and announced I didn't...
