  1. Yes, I would start with the DH biopsy, and make sure he does not test the active (not healing) lesion itself but clear skin immediately adjacent to it (just to be repetitive and redundant) . If this is positive, it doesn't really matter if the blood work is negative because you will already know your are a celiac. The purplish residual scar is a telltale...
  2. That's really bad, when they have to stumble upon it. You know the old saying about not knowing it if you fell over it; well, this is a little better--not knowing it *until* you fall over it Ya gotta laugh, otherwise it would be so sad
  3. Ya know what? I don't think they would care! Really!!
  4. I seem to recall from other posts that you take lipase to help with fat digestion. I would suggest taking the full range of digestive enzymes to make sure that no other enzymes are deficient. As for five months, that is not long. My pancreas was still not producing the right amount of enzymes 9 months after I quit gluten. Healing and getting everything...
  5. Happiness, for me right now, is discovering that the housesitter I have just engaged is allergic to wheat (not gluten, but one of the other wheat proteins). Not happy for her, but happy for me No wheat flour in my pantry, no wheat bread in my toaster...
  6. Hi, and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, your story sounds depressingly familiar. You are definitely right that you need a new doctor, one that will listen and just maybe connect the dots--it's really not that difficult. At the very least, to order a celiac blood panel. Let us know how your self-testing turns out. And do get that new doc! Of...
  7. Finally, the advice to eat seasonally and locally has come together for me. Thanks for ringing that bell.
  8. Do you suspect that you have dermatitis herpetiformis? The test for this is to biopsy the area immediately adjacent to the lesion while is is in its active phase. If you want her/him to do the celiac blood panel you should ask for 1. EMA (Immunoglobulin A anti-endomysium antibodies) 2. AGA (IgA anti-gliadin antibodies) ...

Welcome, Erin. You will find his to be a home away from home for gluten issues. One thing to keep in mind is that you must keep eating gluten for any testing to be valid, otherwise the intestine will start to heal and your body will stop making the antibodies which the blood test measures. I know that once you know it is gluten you don't want to touch...
  10. I know all about the habits associated with *the* habit. Whenever the telephone rang at work, it was automatic to reach for a cigarette. Two weeks into my quit, my boss who was in trial out of town called in, and after a couple of minutes he said, "Lee, are you all right???" NO, I AM NOT, said I crossly, desperately wanting that cigarette and trying to...
  11. I would definitely not consider you to be a hypochondriac when your little girl has such frightening symptoms. While a lot of people with celiac disease have neurological symptoms, it is very difficult to hazard a guess at this point whether or not gluten could be the problem. Even though the blood tests are notoriously unreliable in infants, is it possible...
  12. Don't you just hate it when they say "vinegar". Do you mean wine vinegar, white vinegar, balsamic vinegar, cider vinegar, or malt vinegar (like they use here so often)? I'm afraid whenever I see just "vinegar" I say "No thanks."
  13. In my 20's and 30's I had a friend I lunched with regularly, and she often commented to me how she enjoyed lunching with me because I wasn't one of those "can't eat this, can't eat that" kind of people. Ha!!! She should see me now
  14. Yes, there are a lot of us who went on a gluten free trial, and then got too far down the road to even think of eating gluten again just to get tested.
  15. That is an impressive family history. By the way, are you planning on asking the GI to do an endoscopy with biopsy, because your blood results will probably be negative or inconclusive by that time if you stay off gluten.
  16. Well, there you go. That's it, you have it, regardless of what your current doc says. Show him a copy of your biopsy report, if you have it, but even if you don't, tell him he's wrong and forget him. Go back on the diet and do yourself a big favor.
  17. see at Open Original Shared Link Gives a whole list of (a lot of) the symptoms to look for. Good general information.
  18. Have you had your Vitamin D level checked? Celiacs are often deficient in this (which leads to bone loss) so it's important to be sure you have enough.
  19. Here are my personal "rules" 1. Never knowingly ingest gluten. 2. Do my best to not unknowingly ingest gluten. 3. Create a gluten free pantry. 4. Always carry gluten free food with me. Doesn't mean I have to eat it, but it's there if I need it. Those are my only "rules". Along the way I have gone to gluten free cosmetics and hair care...
  20. " Appearing live at the Skydome for two shows, Celiac and the Intolerants!"
  21. Well, you are both right in many ways. Nobody here (or very few) would ever assert that this is easy, especlally ln the beginning and it's all such a pain in the neck and so difficult, kinda like algebra!!! But when you persevere.day by day, and keep doing it, it does become easier and all this stuff is absorbed internally as a way of life and becomes second...
  22. I like to live in a state of gluten-free contentedness, wherever that may be.
  23. Welcome to the forum, Firefly. Those of us who know we are celiac, whether officially diagnosed or self-diagnosed, often tend to see celiacs under every bush Having said that, some of your symptoms are definitely suggestive of celiac. I don't know about the frequent urination without UTI. I do know that celiac can give you frequent UTI's which often...
  24. Congratulations on finally solving the puzzle after all these years. If you do much reading around here, you will find you are far from alone. Most of us have spent years trying to convince doctors that there is nothing wrong with our heads but something seriously wrong with our bodies. It is incredibly frustrating and wasteful of medical resources. ...
  25. My question was if you had ever had an endoscopy, not have you had a recent one. If you previously responded well to the diet, and had an endoscopy at the time of diagnosis, it would seem to indicate that it is something you are currently ingesting IMHO.
