  1. Eggs, bacon, rice, perhaps? Don't know what she likes to eat. I think most people notice some response fairly quickly. If you prolong it too much she might get worse again and not believe. I second Lactaid over soy milk.
  2. IBS is commonly referred to on this forum as the "I Be Stumped" diagnosis.
  3. I have talked to many people who consider diarrhea, constipation and gas to be totally normal, and suffer them on a daily basis without giving it a second thought. I had become one of those and I did suffer. It sounds to me like some of you have had very little symptomatology and/or been diagnosed early, which is a good thing. Those of us who were really...
  4. I am so glad that you got a response. I agree with Angle that you need to have him run the full celiac panel. I do hope that you get some help and answers.
  5. I have one of those too, and find myself not using it too often; hmm, wonder why??
  6. The most common gluten item to show up in hair care products is "hydrolyzed wheat protein". You can choose to avoid it or not as you please. As Raisin has said, for some it is important; others don't give a hoot. These are not rules being set out here--just guidelines and FYI; use where appropriate or ignore. The whole point of this forum, I believe...
  7. I have not been up to tackling bread-baking until now, but I'm gettin' ready. The primary reason is that I want something with a crrust. I have always been a sourdough french kind of person, something with a crunch that might even crack a molar if you weren't careful. No sliced sandwich bread in a plastic wrap for this gal. So gluten free bread does...
  8. I am responding for Meline here; she will probably respond herself. When we post replies we can't possibly look at the situation from the perspective of everyone on the forum. We all have additional problems which we haven't necessarily disclosed which alter our particular situations. I don't think Meline was being unfair; just trying to help see the situation...
  9. True. After I had a rash reaction to the sublingual B12 my doctor made me wait 30 minutes after my first B12 shot to be sure.
  10. Hi, and welcome to the forum. I would definitely call the pediatrician and get the results of the test; you should always follow up on results, sometimes they are overlooked. If they were normal then I would request further exploration of why she is not growing because this is a serious issue; express your concern. If you get no joy from him, is there...
  11. I am so sorry you have lost your furry companion. We do miss them so because they become such a big part of our lives. Warm hugs to you.
  12. Unfortunately on Central Coast you are kind of 'twixt and 'tween. Neither the liberal, anything goes freewheeling of SF Bay Area and North Bay, nor the hubbub, glitz and zing of SoCal. At one point we thought of retiring to Cambria, but hey, we just wanted to retire, not go to sleep! Sorry, didn't intend this to sound derogatory, but Central Coast is kinda...
  13. I had rotten teeth as a toddler, a child, an adult. Now everything is pretty much filled or capped--not much tooth left to decay, now that I have finally figured it out.
  14. One possible test would be to make an otherwise gluten-free soup and add barley to it. See what happens. If you react to barley you know it's not just the wheat. Just a thought.
  15. Yes, I am one. Was told two years ago I had beginning cataracts; vision is getting progressively worse at 69 years old. Only (self) diagnosed the gluten problem 18 months ago
  16. Don't be down! One week is not long enough to make you better, not by a long shot. You could be going through withdrawal (gluten is like an opioid and yes, you can experience withdrawal from it). Your body is making a big adjustment, and there will be ups and downs, especially in the first month. Stick with it and eat very simply to start with while your...
  17. Hey, we will be there at that time too, and I have yet to find any gluten-free places, so second that request.
  18. Welcome to the forum. Yes, your story is a familiar one; we are often not diagnosed by our doctors but by our friends/family/acquaintances. So we go gluten free and feel better. Then some of us decide we want the official diagnosis. Now we have a dilemma. Because in order to get the diagnosis we must consume gluten--two to four slices of bread or equivalent...
  19. A lot of supermarkets publish on line a list of their gluten-free foods, some have lists available in the store. Some keep them all in one place, others will spread them throughout the store with like gluten-containing products. But best to start out just eating those foods that are naturally gluten free--you know, things like meat, fish, veggies, fruit...
  20. I enjoyed reading your post; thank you for doing the research on this dude. I have been living back here for 6 years and this is the first time I have seen Rodney Ford mentioned in the paper, or anything about celiac. Which is why the snarky tone upset me. Mr. Brillance sure is full of himself. When my mind is fresh and sharp tomorrow I will write...
  21. Yeah, I know he is quite famous, or perhaps "infamous" as the author would have it. "What Ails Thee" appeared in The Press. the Christchurch daily newspaper (www.stuff.co.nz), on April 4. 2009, author John McCrone, or maybe McChrone (Dh recycled newspapers this morning and I can't find it now!!).
  22. Dr. Ford was the first to suggest that the practice of putting babies to sleep on their stomachs was the primary cause of cot deaths. I had always thought that was pretty obvious myself. I guess the article could arouse the interest of readers enough to check it out, though as you will gather, unless they go to Dr. Ford they are unlikely to get a very...
  23. I think that D3 is probably the most important vitamin for a celiac, since osteoporosis seems to be so prevalent amongst us, and can be truly devastating.
  24. The more I read, the more I become convinced that practically the only thing we all have in common is our intolerance of gluten (and some have found that that is not even their problem. But let's accept for the moment that we are all gluten intolerant. Is there any other form of sustenance, other than water (and I am assuming here that no one is intolerant...
