  1. Hi Charlee, and welcome to the forum. Your symptoms are certainly compatible with celiac, as is your elevated IgG result. Your biopsy may or may not be positive; make sure they take at least five samples, and then it depends on the experience of the gastroenterologist in recognizing celiac areas, and just plain luck also if the damage is minor, that...
  2. Since genetics are involved in celiac disease, it is certainly possible you could all have it. If your daughter has it (discussed below) then she had to have gotten a gene from either you or her father as I understand it (no genetic expert here! although there are others here who will answer) No wonder you are confused about a "weak positive". You would...
  3. Good for you for not giving up on it. I am so glad you are succeeding because it is really terrible to be addicted to something that is so harmful. I can't tell you how many times I *tried* to quit smoking. It was only when I decided I *had* quit smoking that I succeeded. May good health and happy lungs be yours.
  4. As a long-term member and gluten-free eater, you would of course have expected the celiac test to be negative. If you are absolutely sure there is no cc going on (and I just discovered it can be tricky; had a gluten eater guest in the house over Easter and she ate four slices of gluten bread she brought with her--my Dh and I ended up with diarrhea for a couple...
  5. This stood out in your post D Angel. I wondered if you are in the habit of consuming a lot of fruit prior to gluten free; could it be a fruit "overload" that is causing your hives? Or a particular fruit in large quantities? Just a thought.

That is the sincere hope of all we self-diagnosed celiacs; that we can educate at least our own doctors It is too much to hope [sigh] that they might in turn educate their colleagues, although my PCP did state that the subject is under much discussion in the medical community here.
  7. Hi, and welcome. Gluten free breadcrumbs are available or you can make your own from gluten free bread. You could try flaxseed. The worst of the withdrawal, etc., is often over in two weeks; you just have to stick with it because it is different for each person. As for the hives and itching (new symptom apparently), this happened to me after going...
  8. Confusingly, sweet rice flour is sometimes called "glutinous" rice flour, not to be confused with gluten, merely referring to its sticky qualities. That's what it was called at my Asian market.
  9. Dh went gluten free at the same time as I did (of course, just for me, he said, but he also had "issues"). Then after about 8 months cheated with beer and french bread and thought he was getting away with it. Then out popped this rash on his forehead, so itchy, with blisters... He didn't get any psoriasis-looking things though, and I would certainly recognize...
  10. Here's my story. Ankles and feet began swelling big time in my late 30's; used to be a problem only when I pulled an all-nighter before then. Blood pressure went up at same time, was on BCPills. Started taking diuretic; have done so for last 30 years--"idiopathic edema". Salt makes not a wit of difference although I have always been low salt. Don't do...
  11. Sounds a bit like, "you can't have one breadcrumb?!!!
  12. Before I went gluten free I had a continuous UTI. I would take a full course of antibiotics and still not test clear. So more antibiotics...more gut problems, less absorption, a continuous vicious cycle. It took more than six months gluten free before the UTI's went away, even with taking cranberry tablets all the time, and lots of them. So yes, I agree...
  13. One of the allergens I see missing from your list is corn; that is a biggie for me (after soy). I also have problems with some beans, especially refried beans.
  14. I had the same problem. Why don't they put Stevia in it now that the FDA has given its seal of approval?
  15. We are talking about you have been through this whole work up and had all these tests, and this has been going on for years where you have been telling him your multiple symptoms, and he comes up finally with this grand pronouncement: "YOU HAVE IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME." We are like, yeah, I know that, by why?
  16. Are you able to line the pans with baking paper? If so, that could be the answer to your problem (except with things like muffins
  17. I have the blue eyes and fair skin and have *always* worn sunglasses.
  18. What is that nonsense? I am assuming it was damage to the villi? Damage is damage; how much damage does he want you to have forevvinsake?
  19. I was so hoping that A-1 was not gluten free; I can't stand the smell of it and Dh consumes it like it was, well, sauce. So every year when we come back I am condemned to A-1 again, sometimes on poached egg!!, a double whammy
  20. Yes, we can certainly have bacon, as long as we make sure it is gluten free. And I cook mine in the microwave Scrambled eggs can be done in the microwave too, but you do have to stir them 2-3 times.
  21. I used to be really lactose intolerant (long before I realized I was gluten intolerant), but since going gluten free I am beginning to feel more comfortable with lactose; can even drink a couple of cappuchinos in a row and not have a problem. I am even getting cocky enough to consider some ice cream sometime in the near future (with Lactaid tablets at first...
  22. My goodness, Welda, your post just made me realize how different we all are in this disease we share. I actually shuddered when I read what you eat, "and continue on with soy protein, tamales, refried beans, corn tortillas, corn spaghetti"... All the above would have me writhing on the floor (all day!). I don't know if you remember the thread I started...
  23. What Scully said. The flamin' nerve of it!! What you wanted was to rule out other things, not diagnose celiac. What did he see??? How frustrating.
