  1. Good mornin' Psillies. I is sitting here with a big sausage bandage on me (surfin') arm all because of an itsy bitsy peelback of skin which ended up as cellulitis. Ackshully, looks more like a stuffed rolled lamb roast because they put one of 'em netting thangs on it. Jeepers, yer big toe fell off :o No wonder you was traumatized. And then...
  2. I did that with a locum for my doc. Asked him if he was familiar with celiac, he said no, so I said, okay we won't go there.
  3. Here dey is!! {{{{{{vibes!!!}}}}
  4. Don't feel bad. I had been buying a particular brand of chicken stock cubes which were both gluten and soy free. Then they came out with a powdered stock in a tin and it was in the gluten free section and I bought it because it's easier than cubes to get the right amount. So of course I didn't check the label and couldn't figure out why I have been itching...
  5. Have read but have no time to respond to all the wackl going on here! Glad to see Knickers paying proper respect to our regal Ruler (she did, after all call you Ma'am). Let 'er keep 'er head for now, Your Majesty. She may come in useful later All right, tell me, are we talking about the left or right hand here? (She with precious little geographical...
  6. Hi Tinajayne, and welcome. I am a little confused by your post. I am assuming it was the celiac panel ttg tests that were run, although I don't understand the first doctor's comments that the least invasive option was to try a gluten free diet; my best guess is that he opted not to do the biopsy for confirmation of celiac (probably because your son was...
  7. You are a very caring, loving person. You are so right in saying that we all need to do our little bit, however small it may be, to reach out to those in need, to hear their silent scream and be there for them. As you say, often it is just an acknowledgment, an encouraging word, a validation of self-worth, a hug, a compliment; for a child not receiving...
  8. Has never come across POeter's great, big deck before... maybe I never will.. Get off those 'roids, bunnie! They will turn you into a raving maniac, or a eunuch?? And forty a day for four days?? My God woman... you'll never be able to take them things again. I got totally allergic to them from poison oak infestations (brought in by me kittersers...
  9. The very sad part about this is that the kids who need the most help are those that internalize everything and are not overtly depressed. I can speak from personal experience that it is very easy (well, not very easy but it can be done) to put up a false exterior and behave as everyone expects you to behave, which is quite the opposite of what you are feeling...
  10. Haven't eaten anything at any McDonalds anywhere in 29 years.
  11. Yep, that was me, too. Could barely climb the flight of stairs to go to bed, I was so short of breath. Of course I had been living right next to a CA freeway, too, before they started putting catalytic converters in cars. Started running (well, a slow lumbering jog) after I quit to try and clean my lungs out. It was a struggle, but I actually got up to...
  12. I self-diagnosed at 67 after no one could figure it out for me. Heavy gluten eater, one could say gluten addict.
  13. YOU WILL NOT WAVER!!
  14. Soy is as insidious as gluten in the number of places it can hide and its different guises. To start with, soy flour is often used in gluten free products. Soy bean oil is used in lots of dressings and processed foods. Hydrolyzed vegetable protein is soy. Here is a list of other names for soy: Edamame Kinako Kouridofu Miso Mono-diglyceride Natto...
  15. Here are a couple of ideas: There are gluten free mueslis or cereals, hemp, almond or gluten free rice milk, fruits (berries are full of nutrition--I use frozen blueberries a lot), gluten free toast and preserves. Or a scrambled egg on gluten free toast, with bacon done in the microwave (only takes a couple of minutes prep), with some take-with-you...
  16. Unfortunately, this is one of those things that can't be done half way. It is an all or nothing proposition. First off, it sounds as if you did not have the full celiac panel blood test initially. If you are still eating gluten, I would suggest you have that test because I think you are probably someone who needs to see that test result. If that test...
  17. It could well be the soy, Lisa. It is a fairly common additional intolerance. I found a lot of gluten-free processed foods have soy as a substitute; things like cookies, sausages, etc., and now you are substituting soy for dairy apparently. I had enormous problems with soy after going gluten free, now can't even eat chocolate because of the soy lecithin...
  18. There are hundreds of us self-diagnosed celiacs running around here because no one would test us. It is so sad to think it is still happening. So much unnecessary suffering has gone on, brings tears to my eyes. "When will they ever learn?..When will they EeeeVER learn! But I'm glad you blew 'im off and did the thing you knew was right.
  19. Narcolepsy has been discovered to be an autoimmune disease: Open Original Shared Link The genetics involve HLA and they suspect it could be linked to multiple sclerosis and juvenile diabetes. And perhaps celiac??? Who knows!
  20. "Shroomie! Is Barb your bestest friend? Sister? MIL? (cannot be -- you get along far too well, methinks....) ." Nae, nae, Barb is my newest, bestest friend. She is going to catsit Miss Emily for us whilst we is gone, and is living in our little unit out the back this month (between housesits) in exchange for some gardening. Now when I say "SOME" gardening...
  21. Hi, Whiterabbit! 'Nother Kiwi here. I am a bit surprised your doc did not tell you to cut out gluten right away. All the symptoms you describe can come from gluten consumption so you really must eliminate it in all its forms. It is hard to do at first because it hides so many places, but you will get the hang of it after a while. Detoxing from gluten...
  22. Good morning' Psills. Jus' me and Miss Emily up this morn and she's more interested in rustling, skittering autumn (fall) leaves than watching the cursor today. Usually she sits on the mouse tail--think she knows it's called "mouse?" Jeepers, nae can miss a day around here, but just as well, entirely too much poo littering these parts! And not a poopy...
  23. These people are not fulfilling their responsibilities to you, and the delay is inexcusable. No wonder you are mad! Yes, keep hounding them by all means.
