  1. Nor would those around you!
  2. Are you sure it is the anesthesia that makes you puke? I puke too, sometimes for a couple of days, but only if they give me morphine during the anesthesia. On anesthesiologist did this when I specifically instructed him not to
  3. Absolutely. Some celiacs with totally flattened villi can eat a slice of bread and not even notice it. For them, knowing they are conforming to the diet is very difficult because they don't know when they have been glutened. These are the so-called silent celiacs, often diagnosed by accident.
  4. Well, that is pretty standard - celiac is usually the last thing they think to test for. Yes, the tests are all blood tests and consist of the following: AGA (antigliadin antibodies)-IgA AGA-IgG tTG (anti-tissue transglutaminase)-IgA EMA (anti-endomysial antibodies)-IgA DGP (deamidated gliadin peptide) Total serum IgA...
  5. Here's the full celiac panel of tests. Do be persistent in getting them all -- many doctors will only do the tTG IgA. AGA (antigliadin antibodies)-IgA AGA-IgG tTG (anti-tissue transglutaminase)-IgA EMA (anti-endomysial antibodies)-IgA DGP (deamidated gliadin peptide) Total serum IgA Get the testing done sooner...
  6. Welcome Sarah. It is hard to say - it could be celiac (or gluten intolerance); do get the blood tests and that will rule in (or out) celiac most often, although they are not 100% reliable. It is possible to have small intestine damage from celiac and a negative blood test. Although it sounds like your symptoms are primarily neurological and these often...
  7. No, the progression cannot be gauged by length of time you've had it, although obviously the longer you have had it the more advanced it is likely to be.
  8. That the rash fades to purple is one of the trademarks of DH. And if it does that it generally leaves a scar, in my experience ( from looking at my husband's --I have not had it)
  9. Welcome to the board! As a teacher, one of the things it will mean is that you will not be able to handle any food products containing gluten in the classroom - projects with macaroni, PlayDoh (sp?), class treats, unless you are extremely careful about handwashing. It also means that, since celiac has a genetic component, you should have both of...
  10. How about : "We don't regard that to be medically significant!" - spoken of my breathing problems before I was diagnosed with COPD. How I hated that woman and I was stuck with her as a PCP in an HMO Supercilious beotch.
  11. <<<<snort>>>>>
  12. Welcome, sillisent! Well, the first thing to ask your doctor for is a copy of the results of all the tests he ran on you. Find out what celiac tests he ran (if any), and if you would care to share, post your results here on the board. We would be happy to have a look at them. I assume IBS-C means irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and as you...
  13. Or have run out of gas
  14. And if you got a crockpot, you could toss everything in there in the morning, set it to low, let it cook all day and it would be ready when you are. A few chicken drumsticks, onions, garlic, tomatoes, mushrooms, voila, chicken cacciatore. Serve over gluten free noodles, enough for several meals.
  15. Hello, and welcome. I don't think you really need to ask us for an answer. I think you have found your own answer that all those doctors over all those years could not find. Yes, those are all symptoms of celiac disease/gluten intolerance, including most definitely infertility/inabilty to carry a child to maturity. Did your allergies go away too?...
  16. I have often said on here that cutting out the gluten is not like turning of the faucet or the light switch, because even when the gluten is turned off you still have all that damage that has to heal, and it does require patience. No one can say how long it will take for you, in particular to heal, or give you signposts of measurements of your progress...
  17. There are many people, a greater number than those who have celiac disease, who test negative on all tests for celiac, but who have the same gluten symptoms. They do not show the intestinal damage that celiacs have. Researchers are only just designing studies to test these people and doctors are only just starting to recognize the diagnosis of non-celiac...
  18. Yes, on glutenfreedrugs.com, it does list Bystolic as "may contain wheat" unfortunately. As you say, there seems to be no way of knowing. Is this a brand name medication? Is there a generic for it? Oh, I went back and read your post again and you answered that question. Can her doctor come up with an equivalent medication? There are often several drugs...
  19. We are having a french leek pie in the new crust I bought from Whole Foods, with a green mixed salad, and baked apples stuffed with dates and brown sugar.
  20. Yes, I am afraid I do, since they became antibiotic resistant in my body. I use cranberry tablets mostly.
  21. Although there have not been a lot of research results proving the link, the anecdotal evidence on the board is pretty strong that gluten intolerance and UTI's ride together. I am a prime case. I now have methicyllin resistant infection and all I can do is keep it at bay, never cure it. My family all had either diagnosed celiac or suspicious symptoms and...
  22. You are trying to digest food on a very raw gut. Yes, it is normal for your gut to have a hard time when it is not feeling well. You can help it heal by taking some probiotics, and by taking digestive enzymes with meals. Gluten can suppress the formation of digestive enzymes in the pancreas. Some people also take L-glutamine to help heal the gut.
  23. I believe that if you still have "IBS" symptoms after being on the gluten free diet for a year, then there is something else going on that is causing the "IBS".
  24. They usually give you heavy sedation with a drug that makes you forget everything that has happened. It is a pretty much non-event from the recollection point of view. You do need someone to drive you home, however. You can eat afterwards whenever you feel like it. They advise no alcohol that day.
  25. My niece who travels a lot for business never stays in hotels. She always does a short-term apartment rental. I had not known there were such things. She said it often works out about the same as a hotel and is much more convenient. It might be worth investigating if you will be in a large city.
