I is apheared that Gniki is lost to us, so addicted has she become to the endorphin highs of running that afterwards she just quietly smiles to herself on her endorphin-induced feelgoods. -

We were informed by a waiter in Italy (very distinguished, about 80 years old) that "With dinner one should drink a little water, and MUCH wine" as he deposited a huge carafe of red wine (not ordered) on our table We followed his advice but then we had to drive back up the hill. Which was the bigger sin -- hubs who had had more wine, or me who was not... -
ARCHIVED Quick Q, Which Has More Gluten, Pasta, Pizza, Or Wheat Bread?
mushroom replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From my personal eating experience, it was the pasta that got me first -- more concentrated wheat it seemed. No science behind this -

The way I did it, not necessarily recommended, was not at all methodical, and the sequence is set out in my signature block. I had GI problems (cramping and pain) as a child from breakfast cereals (wheat), but outgrew them as a teenager (and also stopped eating cereals, albeit unconsciously, after leaving home.) Up until 1969 I had pretty much a cast... -

ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
mushroom replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to stop eating several things before I finally realized I had to quit gluten. First was corn, as in tortillas, chips, etc. Next was pasta - just too much concentrated wheat. Then I started wondering about the wheat along with the corn in Mexican restaurants. But pizza was still my comfort food, so it couldn't be gluten, right??? I think it was... -

Indeed there is a relationship. Read here: Open Original Shared Link I come from a family of celiacs and UTI sufferers. My mother, both sisters, me. It is no coincidence. In fact, mine has progressed to the point where it is methycillin resistant and therefore always present, just waiting for a chance to become a nuisance. -
Thanks for that info, Steph.

Healing is hard work for your body and puts many stresses on it, including the need for more rest, which it seems like you really do not have a lot of time for at this time. You make ME feel tired thinking of what you are doing. Be patient with yourself and try to relieve some of your load if you can. Is it possible to finish your masters at a later time... -
They do say that it is better to head off pain, rather than try to treat it once it takes hold. So don't be slow to start taking the pain relievers, tylenol or whatever. I tend to avoid the strong morphine-derived pain relievers because they make me vomit. I have taken Tramadol in the past.

I am sorry you have having all these intestinal blockage issues. It must be very frustrating for you. Perhaps the pill cam will show something that a laparotomy could not. As Peter says, if you have been religiously following a gluten free diet you should by now test negative for gluten antibodies, because they only appear in the presence of gluten...

Signs of changing of the seasons - no, not the leaves turning color here (they are either just straight out dying or still determinedly green), but the arrival of the godwits in Christchurch after their 7-day fight from Alaska eating their fill out in the river estuary, and the arrival of another kind of bird, a C-17 Globemaster getting ready for the first... -

And I would add, if you are not improving/getting worse and feel you do need to remove something, start with the most likely culprits. For many of us these are the most common allergens - soy, corn, eggs (usually the yolk), peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish. Don't do them all at once - try one at a time. -

ARCHIVED Igg And Iga
mushroom replied to Kairyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kairyn, and welcome. Your doctor is wrong, if you had not been eating gluten there is a very slim chance that your tests would be positive for celiac. It is normally recommended that you be eating gluten for at least six weeks before testing. So your test results do not tell you whether or not you have celiac disease. To get a proper test you would...
