  1. I can never figure out how to use Stevia in baking. How do you make up for the bulk of the sugar?
  2. Now Janet, do we reallly NEED to know this? On the other hand, would go well with the hula. Or I can just see you swingin' that old hula hoop left over from your youthful days What a spectacle!!!
  3. Jane, I'm really not sure that this is something a nurse practitioner should be doing??? Esspecially one who does not believe she is looking for DH. Here is the procedure: Open Original Shared Link Dermatitis Herpetiformis Skin Biopsy Looks for IgA Under The Skin When biopsying skin to determine if a rash is dermatitis herpetiformis...
  4. I did that the other day . Toaster oven, new kind of ciabatta, 7 minutes - nothing; 10 more minutes and cut a piece off and it wasn't even warm; another 10 minutes and it was vaguely golden on top but underside was not even vaguely crisp. Gave up, cut it in half and stuck it in the regular toster No, it didn't burn!!
  5. Marilyln, I'm with you on the quinoa - deadly. Millet too. And yet the link fantasticalice provided claims that millet and sorghum are the same - NOT!. I love sorghum, no problems whatsoever with it.
  6. I know - thatis why I went back and dug it out.. navigator seems to have gone away and we could usually rely on Patti to keep it going. Anyways, here's one that will stretch you back a bit.... You Light Up My Life - Debbie Boone
  7. Heroes - David Bowie
  8. Glad the robotics is going well, even without the genius graduated class. Spaghetti Wharehouse sounds like the meal from hell We are rolling into fall here with reds starting to show in the trees,go off daylight savings tonight - five hours time difference between there and here so you willl see even less of me. Hope no one has any phluid problems...
  9. I by no means consider myself to be a super sensitive when it comes to gluten, but I am super sensitive to a lot of other things. I always try to buy free range chicken and eggs, free range pork (not raised in sow crates), organic grass-fed beef, and ocean-fished salmon (I don't like the idea of fish eating sawdust and food coloring) I think the purer...
  10. Doctors are taught very little about celiac disease in medical school and it is never something they first think of - in fact they seldom think of it at all And that goes for dermatologists too! It shouldn't be so hard to get the keys to unlock the door, but it is. A derm. biopsy of an active lesion would definitely be the best way to go if you could...
  11. The length of time to onset of symptoms does not define whether you are celiac or gluten intolerant. It is a very variable time for each individual. Some people (celiacs) do not have symptoms until the next day, or two days later. The only thing that determines whether or not you get a diagnosis of celiac disease is whether you are producing gliadin antibodies...
  12. I was abreacting a little from my three personal experiences with hospital dieticians. The very first hospital meal I was served after my gluten free chat with the dietician was a breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs, with two pieces of french toast lying across the eggs (gluten free bread - NOT!) Nothing got any better. Fortunately my hubs could bring...
  13. Yes, I know what you mean. Enjoy / suffer some crusty sourdough french, a croissante and some phyllo pastry for me, please Mmmm. can taste them all now, and ahh, the textures At least they live on in our memories.
  14. I sure wouldnl't listen to anything a dietician had to say
  15. Very true in my experience. Oddly enough, I cannot tell what the pig or chicken ate, but I sure can pick a feedlot piece of beef from a green pastures one (and no, not just the flavour and consistency, but how my body reacts to it.)
  16. It could possibly be something in your vitamin. I have just started taking a new vitamin complex, and have ended up with hives on my butt I took them for two days, stopped today and will see how it goes. I only ever add one thing at a time because I never know what is going to come in from left field and bite me. This has several ingredients I am not...
  17. Also a good reminder of why we need a family member or trusted advocate to supervise our nutritional intake in a hospital. This, unfortunately, is not an isolated experience
  18. Oh my, I am so sorry you are having such a tough time of it, Wendy But things eventually do get better. Believe it or not, some of the way you are feeling could be a withdrawal from gluten, as it acts as an opioid in the body and withdrawing from it is similar to the withdrawal from nicotine or other addictive substances. Hang in there until you get over...
  19. Hello, and welcome. I can't help but wonder why your GP wanted you to stop eating gluten?? The surest way to screw up any celiac testing results is to stop eating gluten. You not only need gluten in your system, you need to have been continuously eating gluten for the testing to be valid. Have you in fact been off gluten for two weeks? You might have...
  20. If you are biopsy positive, you are celiac. Period. Doesn't matter a hoot about the genes.
  21. Did you mean "grain fed beef" or "grass fed beeef:? I eat only organic grass-fed, not just because of the grain but because of all the other junk that goes with it (including the hormones and antibiotics), and also my body screams at me if it is grain-fed I can't suggest a multi-vitamin because that alone is not enough for me. I do take one but it is...
  22. Glutlen free cat and dog food is no problem. When it comes to squirrels, rodents, hedgies and hamsters, I would have no idea. But if that is only going to be a temporary situation, no worries. Just be as careful as you can, wear a mask when around them, wash, wash your hands after feedings, and then when they are gone, relax and enjoy your kittehs.
  23. I did not read the post where you had been baseball batted Glad you are back to hitting home runs again!
  24. lucia, just off the top of my head, ginger ale sounds good with chicken ETA: http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/282/Ginger-Ale-Chicken132219.shtml
  25. Hello, and welcome. To start on a positive note, perhaps you should change your name to "skinniac" There is no underestimating the power of positive thinking. How long post-gluten are you? Because the good news is, it could have been the gluten preventing you from losing weight The standard thinking goes that celiacs become skinny because of...
