  1. There must be something in the water or spring is in the air Congrats, all.
  2. Yes,Haven on Earth is a real haven in gluten-loaded Reno It is just around the corner and down the street a bit from me
  3. I know little about the genetic testing; Skylark would be the one to respond to this question. But back to your gluten challenge -- it certainly was not sufficient to get an accurate result. Three to four slices of bread per day or equivalent for 2-3 months is the suggested challenge period, as excruciating as it will probably be if you intend to...
  4. : Okay, okay, you can have your rice cooker!

    ARCHIVED Is This Dh?

Yes. The diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis is a diagnosis of celiac by definition, the skin form rather than the gut form. This is why people who have only the skin manifestation often cannot get a diagnosis by biopsy. If you can get it from a knowledgeable doc it is an easier way to go.
  6. Not too many docs, period, know about gluten ataxia. Finding a knowledgeable doctor is the hardest thing about celiac disease
  7. My personal opinion (for what it's worth, having never owned a pressure cooker) is that a slow cooker (crockpot) would be a more useful gluten free appliance than a fast (pressure) cooker. It doesn't require watching and your dinner cooks all day while you are doing other things. I don't know what the fascination is with rice cookers since cooking rice...
  8. Hi and welcome to the board. I will give you my story and perspective. I stopped eating gluten in the hopes that it would help my then diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (subsequently changed to psoriatic arthritis). I did not know about celiac disease or celiac testing. I subsequently found this board. The diet did not help my RA, but it did solve...

    ARCHIVED Is This Dh?

DH is celiac. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac. It is harder and easier to diagnose DH. Harder because it is difficult to find the antibodies in the normal testing, but easier because the antibodies can be found in the skin adjacent to a lesion, and if they take a punch biopsy of the skin adjacent to an active lesion and do special staining on...

    ARCHIVED Norman/oklahoma City Ok

Someone here may know of a celiac knowledgeable doc in your area. They are hard to come by
  11. Go to the forum index page. Down at the bottom you will see "The moderating team". Click on that and then click on Admin's profile,(the first listing) and click on "send me a message" and make your request to Scott.
  12. Oh, you are more than welcome Carrie. I looked through your posts and saw that we hadn't been fully responding to you Yes, if Dad has symptoms too then your children could have gotten both celiac and NCGI genes from their parents. To have your son tested (and his dad) would be an interesting proposition, if you could talk dad into it. If his troubles...
  13. Hmmm, your testing results do look thoroughly negative, sorry to say, Yes, that is the full panel except for the anti-gliadin which is falling into disuse anyway. So for 17 (approx) out of 60 days you were gluten free and you were gluten lite in fall and gluten free for 3-4 days at a time during that period. It is hard to say if that would have affected...
  14. I never had acne as a teenager, and never had it from gluten, but twice since I went gluten free I have had acne break out all over my face as a reaction to things I have ingested. One time, it was from something in a sublingual B12 tablet, and another time it was from a supplement given to me by a naturopath which contained a high concentration of bioflavenoids...
  15. As I mentioned on your new thread, (I went back to your profile and checked out your other posts) the full celiac panel consists of the following tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA This is apparently...
  16. Hello and welcome to the board. I am sorry your wee fellow is having such a tough time. Do you know if they have done the blood testing for celiac disease? Any doctor can order this, t does not have to be a gastro or an allergist. If they have not you should ask them to do it right now! It consists of: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG...
  17. That is a remarkable description, Carrie, of feeling like being underwater with no idea how to surface, drowning with no source of oxygen.... No wonder you were not "yourself". So glad that you accidentally discovered the source of your problems. I assume that it helped your son immeasurably too since it is pretty apparent that gluten does pass through...
  18. Well, that is a pretty bald, bold statement that Dr. Ford makes, with nothing but his opinion apparently to back it up. If that were the case, why do doctors sometimes do a six-month and twelve-month follow-up blood test to check for dietary compliance, if you are still making the antibodies? I have never heard anybody else state this and think that the...
  19. That was a really interesting study, Skylark. Thanks for posting.

    ARCHIVED Is This Dh?

Your description of them lined up in a row is a hallmark of a certain variant of DH. That is exactly how my hubs' looked, marching downing his forehead in formation
  21. If you have a really active DH lesion, and if you find a good dermatologist, you can get a skin biopsy done for DH. It has to be taken from the skin immediately adjacent to the lesion, and they have to do special staining to look for the IgA antibodies in the skin tissue - that's why you need a derm. who is familiar with the procedure. If that test is positive...
  22. Yes, I think it would be sensible to eliminate all lactose-containing dairy (milk, cream, ice cream, frozen yogurt) and if that isn't enough you might have to go to all dairy including cheese and butter and yogurt for a few months until your intestine heals. The enzyme that digests lactose is produced in the part of the gut which is damaged by gluten. Some...
  23. From Costco we buy: Black forest ham Cheese Toilet paper Paper towels Asparagus Strawberries and blueberries Grapes Melons Seafood every second Friday Supplements and toiletries Cans of tuna Coffee Wine Gasoline Peppercorns Dijon mustard Olive oil
  24. Well done, Mom and daughter. It sounds like you have both handled it very well.
