ARCHIVED Should I Do A Saliva Test Or...
mushroom replied to Rapptastic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello, and welcome. You will probably have discovered from your reading that it is very difficul, if not impossible,t to diagnose celiac disease if you are already gluten free. Unfortunately, the saliva and stool testing, while giving some indications, are not considered to be definitive tests by the medical profession, i.e., there is no firm scientific... -

ARCHIVED Packaging That Does Not Say Gluten Free Still Can Be Right?
mushroom replied to ChickenLady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
But back to the original question. Just because a product is in the regular aisle and does not make any gluten free claims, does not mean that the product does in fact contain gluten. I buy quite a few products from the regular shelves that I have come to know and trust, and often you will see a product in two places - on both the regular and the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Glutened And Not Had Symptoms?
mushroom replied to sleer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, may I say that if a doctor was checking you for an ulcer, you must have been having some symptoms. Eating gluten intentionally when you know you are celiac is a pretty unwise thing to do. You may think you can get away with it because you are not noticing symptoms now, but sooner or later they will catch up with you, in the form of some other... -
ARCHIVED Sign Petition For Chipotle To Stop Using Soybean Oil
mushroom replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
IMHO, soy is so not good for anyone, and so many of us gluten freers do not tolerate it either, it seems such an unnecessary allergen to add to food. Sure, it may be cheap, genetic modification has seen to that, but really, why would you want to eat GMO food?? It is one of the top eight allergens and there are so many better (even affordable) choices. ... -
ARCHIVED Lame Things I'm Mourning!

Sorry, but I have determined it is not the fault of the toaster, but of the operator. Hubs and I are both gluten free, use the same toaster, different breads. I always adjust the setting for my bread, hubs always just pushes the button, with the usual result - burnt gluten free bread stink spreading throughout the house -- ughh!!! Worst smell in the world... -
ARCHIVED New Medical Language Makes Gluten-Sensitivity and Celiac Disease Separate ... - Celiac.com
mushroom replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well, I suppose all I can say is that it is about time that the so-called experts got on board with what the rest of us (except those with a vested interest in being diagnosed as 'celiac' ) have known all along, that celiac disease is not the beginning and end of gluten sensitivity. -

The cortisone will generally, on its own, calm down any kind of inflammation for a while. Just sayin'. -

Here is another perspective. I am not telling you whether or not to be tested, but just a point of view, mind. I agree with beachbirdie that your previous test results were invalid because you had not been eating gluten. Similarly, I do not think that one month's worth of gluten-eating would be sufficient. So let's look at your gluten free-ness. ... -

I miss that if you want to bake a pie or cheesecake with a specific cookie crust, you can't just buy the cookies or take them out of the pantry -- no, first you have to bake the darned cookies!!! -
It's hard to find a non-butter spread without soy. Soy-free Earth Balance is one of the few. To the OP - do you have a problem with soy? Might be worth checking into.

ARCHIVED Am I Celiac? Negative Blood Test
mushroom replied to Oats's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, amenorrhea can be caused by celiac. See, for instance: Open Original Shared Link Celiac Sprue. Celiac sprue is an inability to tolerate gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, oats, barley, and other grains. Exposure to gluten damages the lining of the intestinal tract. It is also associated with late puberty, early menopause, and amenorrhea.... -
Old Hag Syndrome / Sleep Paralysis
mushroom replied to nb-canada's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had this happen to me a couple of mornings in a row, long before I became aware of celiac. It is a totally scary experience. I was alone in the house at the time, my mom was in hospital dying of cancer, and I have never talked to anyone about it. It has never happened again. I put it down to a combination of meds I was taking, and stopped taking the... -

Well, you did get the 'diagnosis' of IBS, which is basically the same thing - I'm Basically Stumped Wandering down the diagnostic endoscopy path you will typically first find inflammation, then increased intraepithelial lymphocytes, then increased crypt hyperplasia, sometimes the scalloping, then partial villous atrophy, then subtotal villous atrophy,... -

ARCHIVED Naming A Gluten Free Baked Goods Business
mushroom replied to fenifur's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't think "pure" or "safe" will do it. It's a bit like saying it's "organic" - doesn't mean much to a gluten free-er. My locally gluten free bakeries are called "Totally Gluten Free Bakery" and in Reno, "Haven of Bread". You could try for something like Simply Gluten Free, The Gluten Free Loaf (and Other Goodies), or even Baked with Gluten Free... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Visit Today - Totally Mortified (:
mushroom replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Has he ever had DH? Does he KNOW how it itches??? And psoriasis itches terribly, too - I KNOW!! And it used to wake me in the night (heat makes it worse). Did he do a microscopic examination? This sounds more like a bit of diagnostic guesswork to me, rather than a true diagnosis. And unfortunately it doesn't even make any difference if this was a dermatologist... -
ARCHIVED Negative Reults; Waiting For Gi Appnt.
mushroom replied to Mama2Saigai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your posted results do not souond like normal celiac testing. If anything, they sound like the measurement of your total serum IgA and IgG levels and would seem to indicate that you make normal quantities of both. The celiac testing panel normally consists of: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase...
