  1. While I have no experience with the enterolabs and cant tell what might affect your tests - you can always go off of wheat for a few weeks and see how you feel - thats really cheap, and you dont have to get your doctor's permission to do it! Many people feel better within a few days or a week, but I was definitely still improving a month later . . well,...
  2. First of all, its good to have a starting place of going gluten free, as a way to improve your health! Doctors really do just set you loose with a dx and not give you any support. Some people have had help from a dietician, other find the dietitians dont know much either. Furthermore, even finding a doctor to recognize and test you for celiac, puts...
  3. I thought I saw Ruths Chris steak house on a gluten free list too, which is even nicer than outback. If you do a web search for gluten-free restaraunts, you will find a few sites which list some by area. Also, you could try calling a few nice restaraunts (steak houses or asian - or down there, maybe upscale mexican would be a good bet) and ask if they can...
  4. Although I was taken off dairy and wheat as an infant due to D, i also was on antibiotics for several years in HS, for acne. I now suspect that those years of taking antibiotics (at my mother's urging) left me with a life-long candida overgrowth which has contributed to so many of my health issues, including current multiple food issues. I believe the body...
  5. I had picked up some kinnikini (or however thats spelled) animal crackers, and my boys fought over them. I also picked up some rice valley crunch-ems (like chex, kinda) and my very picky 4 yo cleaned his breakfast bowl for the first time in a long time! You may not find exact copies of what she eats, but if you can get her to try them (often easier said...
  6. No, I'm sorry, i didnt word my post clearly enough - there is a woman named Susan Solomon, she has an article on her website about celiac and gluten sensitivity, as well as an article on adrenal fatigue, both of which I think are current issues of mine. She has showed up on several searches I've made, and when I looked at the functional medicine site for...
  7. Its funny, every other search I do on the web seems to come up with the same doctor - she was on the functional medicine list, too. She sounds like a doctor I really want to work with - she just doesnt take insurance and she is almost 30 minutes away. Still, I'm planning on seeing her soon.
  8. I actually prefer the wheat-free one. I found one in the health-food section of my grocery store, wheat free organic tamari
  9. IMHO, medical school teaches the medical model like gospel, until they've convinced doctors that there is no truth outside of the AMA official policies. Furthermore, they are required none/6 credits (i've read both) of nutrition classes, and those probably focus on obesity. The part I really dont understand at all is why both parents and doctors seem...
  10. I read somewhere that gluten-free grains are more delicate than gluten grains, and even for yeast breads, you shouldnt mix them much once the liquid is added - like quick breads. This is very confusing to a wheat-bread baker, because wheat-bread gets better and better the longer you knead it. But when/if I ever try to make another loaf of gluten-free bread...
  11. I also got a negative celiac panel after being off wheat for 6 weeks, but definitely felt a lot better. It really threw me for a loop. However, I had also ordered a blood test from A.L.C.A.T (you can look them up on line, but if you spell it out here without the dots it will get changed .. ), when I'd been off wheat for 2 weeks. I showed sensitive to gluten...
  12. I'm assuming it was just a way to show that the medical community has in the past given people 'cures' which are now considered dangerous drugs, implying that , in the future, we may see the current psych meds the same way we now see cocaine. I think its a stretch, tho.
  13. I picked up a book called gluten -free baking basics, and she has several different mixes. However, I found I cannot tolerate tapioca, so I have to substitute something out for that. She recomends Authentic Foods superfine brown rice flour - i 'invested' in one bag from Amazon, but the shipping is more than the flour You can also get fine-ground rice...
  14. I'm really feeling like i'm standing at the edge of an abyss afraid to jump . .. I was hoping I could tell my sister all about this gluten stuff and she'd try and feel so much better . . instead she was really mean and snotty to me (ok, thats nothing new) and said yes, I realized wheat was bothering me, so now I eat only white bread, a little french bread...
  15. This is my take, and i've only been hanging out on this forum for a few weeks and dont have a celiac dx. There are basically 3 different reasons to quit gluten (or mosty quit gluten): an allergy to wheat, celiac disease, or a gluten sensitivity that isnt celiac. the fuzziest thing is that some people who dont have celiac, still have the gene for celiac...
  16. Ok, 2 quick questions - what are typical die-off symptoms, and what does 'herxing' mean?
  17. Because one of the half-dozen or so dx's my son has been given is bipolar, I've been doing a lot of reading. Some people believe that many of the atypical monopolar depressives who do not respond well to SSRIs are actually bipolars who have not yet had a manic episode. According to the DSM (I think thats it) you have to have at least 1 manic episode in...
  18. Gosh, that sounds kinda like me, except mine was never bad enough to medicate - my sister and my son are bad enough to medicate. After testing reactive to sardines, I just bought some flax seed oil. Really curious what that other poster sent you . . .
  19. Ok, i'd love to hear anyones opinion about my symptoms and yeast .. . i had violent D as an infant, was taken off wheat and milk for a few mo after a food challenge. In HS i was on antibiotics for 2 years for acne, and thats when I remember having serious problems with D again. In college the chronic vaginal yeast infections started. Acidopholous taken...
  20. Update: I made a second wrap today, with dough that I'd put in the fridge. I let the dough ball warm at room temp for about 5 minutes before I rolled it. It was MUCH easier to handle than it had been the day before - didnt stick as much, rolled out thinner. It also had a very pleasant yeasty smell - like maybe it had done a little sour-dough thing. It...
  21. Ok, i'm following this thread some because I believe candida is part of my problem . .. moldlady, are you saying you've been on the candida diet for 8 years straight? I'm really not sure I'm ready to make that kind of lifestyle change . .. staying off gluten for ever, ok . . but off yeast, mushrooms, vinegar, sugar, forever? Is this after trying anti-fungals...
  22. Ok, I made some hummus the other day for quick protien, and i had some leftover roasted veggies. So of course, I'm craving a hummus and veggie wrap! The problem? Not only am I on a gluten free diet, I also react violently to tapioca, and i'm abstaining from rice right now after a test indicated a moderate reaction to it. Plus, i dont have any decent...
  23. For cramps, my mother swore by jack daniels ... Mine were never that bad, but a heating pad on the back sometimes helped. and, well, ibuprofen of course . . As for iron - when I was pregnant I couldnt handle prenatal vitamins. To keep up my iron, my first midwife put me on yellow dock - i found it in capsuules. It doesnt have iron in it, but helps...
  24. Actually, I think my dog has this. She is a very small (45 lb) german shepherd. She is 12, and was put on kidney food and a medicine because she was wetting her bed (even if my hubby let her out every time she stirred during the night, poor dear). She's also on a supplement for arthritis, which got that pained look off her face. But when I went back...
  25. Thanks for your supportive responses! I'm feeling much more calm and dedicated today. Its just hard becuase I'm trying to avoid a WHOLE lot of foods right now - but only for 6 weeks, and then I'll start trying some of my milder reactions, like onions and hot peppers. I had stopped my multivitamin because I couldnt get an allergy statement from...
