  1. Ok, i've been off gluten and dairy for 2 mo and i'm trying to wean my 11 yo off gluten, and i've also recently had some testing which put me off rice and almond - so tomorrow i'm going to try to make something (?) with corn elbow noodles, a cream sauce made from coconut milk flavored w garlic and mustard powder, and a little shredded vegan gourmet cheddar...
  2. Just wanted to add my experience. My symptoms were not that strong, but i did a journal entry about 3 weeks in to it, i posted a journal entry saying my digestion was much better, but i was hoping it would help my mood and energy level. A month after that, I posted saying my mood and energy were better too. I did have to get more careful about the gluten...
  3. Just wondering if you could go back to ur naturopath and get retested, to see if the same foods are still causing the problems? it might be easier to stick with the diet if 1 or 2 of the foods were back on your list
  4. The more time i spend with the public school system (15 yo dd, 11 yo specail needs - emotional) the more i understand why people homeschool! It so often feels like a factory where everyone has to fit in a compartment and there are no exceptions. My son had the typical specail ed experience where you have to totally fail out of school before they will give...
  5. I breastfed all three kids and didnt introduce most allergen foods until 1 yr and did them very carefully. I was bottle fed and developed severe 'allergies' to milk and wheat - since they were never tested then, i'm trying now to see if it was really celiac. My kids stopped gaining weight once i put them on wheat, and i'm starting to wonder if it was NOT...
  6. Raven, i found your response fascinating . . .i'm so hoping that my blood tests come up positive! I always tested high and performed poorly, had poor concentration and terrible memory. I think i've posted about all my family's problems, but I'm esp hoping to be able to help my middle child, who's 11 and has been on antidepressants and antipsychotics for...
  7. Thanks for all the responses, you have enlightened me a lot. I may or may not message Scott, but I appreciate being shown that option. For now, i'll just do the dots - i actually mistakenly thought the dots werent enuf, but i see now that they are. thanks again
  8. roflmao I actually have moved to internet recipes for most things, so I have a lot of soft copies, but still, i would be upset too - tho there's no way I would have waited 3 months to tear open every box in every pile 'til i found them!
  9. Cool, more responses! thanks! I told my husband, the foods that had the most mild responses, I'll try to stay off for a month or 6 weeks, and introduce one per week (ok, that would take a year . . maybe just the ones i miss, like pork, onion, coffee, egg whites, hot peppers, almonds). Then i'd start reintroducing the medium reactions, obviously with...
  10. Stopped drinking in large quantities? Have you had your liver/kidneys checked?
  11. I thought i'd read that some of the folks who advertise their oats as gluten-free actually spot test them to assure they remain below whatever the limit is. I wonder if they mean that they dont put any gluten in it knowingly, but dont test to confirm? Sounds like CYA, huh?
  12. Thoughts? like, yah, sounds like a crappy lunch?! Ok, so test your noodles more frequently, and rinse in cold water - i did that even with the spaghetti, but different brands and shapes will be different. Also, if you made a quick white sauce (mix 1/2 cold milk w/ 1 TB corn starch, nuke, stir, nuke until thick) and threw the cheese in there to melt,...
  13. Now that you are dealing with multiple allergies, you will need to make a habit of reading food lables like a maniac! Nothing is safe! I saw a humorous 'you know you're a celiac if' post, and my favorite was "you read the ingredients for green tea - plain green tea". The point is, dont feed your child anything unless you've read every single ingredient...
  14. Ok, the colors are just the severity of the reaction from the food testing. Red foods are a very strong reaction, orange are a moderate reaction and yellow are a mild reaction. Green are all the safe foods. Its just how they do their report, instead of giving you a number range. Thanks for responding! I read somewhere that if a roatation diet is stressing...
  15. But they dont mess up the names of other labs which are often recomended - enterolabs, elisa (however its spelled), these can be named by name with no problem. So why only this test is singled out for altering? I do appreciate your point that this is primarily a business website with a forum as a service
  16. So, if you spell out the A. L CAT test all together, it gets replaced by the text 'lame advertising' or something like that. Well, ok, maybe they pissed someone off with their ads, but they're gone from here now. Its a test similar to the eliza test, it tests for a lot of food, and people have had good experiences with it. i believe people on this forum...
  17. Just wanted to jump in this thread w a few personal observations. First of all, i was off milk and wheat as an infant after a food challenge, but there was never any testing. I believed myself to be lactose intolerant most of my life, because I seemed to react better to dairy if it was lactose free or I was taking acidopholous supplement. But then I read...
  18. I admit i havent eaten out much at all since having kids, and not at all since getting serious about the diet - so, French fries are bad if they also do onion rings, fried chicken in the same grease, right? Grilled chicken/steak - you have to know what they are seasonsed with and if they are made on the same grill as things that arent safe? baked potato...
  19. I used basal body temperature succesfully for years, and my first child was because my thermometer battery died! Of course, I used to be like clockwork, but still, I managed to catch 2 times when I had a double cycle. I didnt actually pay attention to my mucous much, it seemed vague to me. When I was younger and, um, wilder, I used condoms for the safety...
  20. I dont really think coating food in grease of any sort really helps a child grow healthier. He doesnt just need calories, he needs all the parts of nutrition to build cells! Anyways, cheese does have a lot of fat and nutrition, and i used to be totally addicted to cheese - so you could make wheat-free pizza, grilled cheese on wheat-free bread, wheat-free...
  21. I'm kinda waiting to see how my tests come out, but i'm really hoping the diet will help my 11 yo. He had more and more problems with behavior and finally was dx'd with (by several different ppl) aspbergers, pdd-nos, adhd, sensory integration, processing disorder, anxiety, dysthimia, and bipolar. He's now on an antidepressent and 2 antipsychotics, and has...
  22. Here's the text from their FAQ: "I can't eat glutens. What can I eat at your restaurant? You can eat anything we serve except for our large burrito tortillas, our small soft taco tortillas, and possibly our hot red tomatillo salsa (there is a small amount of distilled vinegar in it which some celiac websites still say might be problematic, although most...
  23. Chipotle isnt on these lists, but is gluten free. Their website under FAQ says exactly what you cant eat (very short list) and says they will be happy to put on fresh gloves when preparing your food. I havent gone out to eat since going off gluten (except once when I picked up a grilled chicken w no bun at BK, but that was a while back), but i cant wait...
  24. I dropped gluten and dairy 2 months ago, because i'd reacted to them as an infant, and just thought I might feel healthier, but i had no major complaints. However, all my minor complaints (headaches 4/wk, frequent bouts of fatigue, depression and anxiety, and iffy bowels) have all cleared up. I saw a woman on youtube who said she got rid of canker sores...
  25. I was having trouble getting a handle on the different flours, so I kinda did a test. I did something like the liquid from a crepe - an egg with some sweetened rice milk. Then I'd take about 3 tb of a flour, pour enough liquid in to make a crepe, cook it and eat it, and write down taste and texture. I did this with all the flours I had in the house, and...
