With a necessity for a yes/no, I'd be tempted to shift the question to "either I feel better gluten-free or I don't ".

ARCHIVED Celiac Pill Holds Promise Of Relief

ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed?
tom replied to MysteryDiagnosis2012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IMHO this Dr's a jackass & it's infuriating that this type of Dr isn't rare. With quotes like these I'm surprised I recently repeatedly have to defend the Drs who wrote "The Gluten Effect" for not being MDs. MDs who aren't up to speed on Celiac/gluten are all too common. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet Cured? Type 1 Diabetes
tom replied to icm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is somewhat ridiculous to put "according to Dr Vikki Peterson" as the subtitle when it's actually her comments on an article re: gluten-free published in the British Medical Journal. "Published just days ago in the British Medical Journal (June 21, 2012) from authors Sildorf SM,Fredheim S, Svensson J,and Buschard K out of Copenhagen University Hospital... -
Yet you did anyway. It does appear to be a comparative arguing of merits, of some sort. "Beloved", "enamored" & a passive-aggressive, obviously insincere "they know best"? That's "courtesy" now? Above you basically called them ignorant dolts blind to the tyranny of no co-pay checkups or of not having to worry that just a little...

Unfortunately ppl can go a lifetime. That doesn't mean they, in hindsight, wouldn't have preferred being gluten-free for the last 50yrs, convinced that those yrs of being mostly functional & mostly fine may have been wonderful if gluten-free, instead of just fine, or "bearable". A long life doesn't necessarily equal a healthy life. My maternal...

ARCHIVED Pre-Test Symptoms And Questions
tom replied to Howlin-Radio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Every time I look, I find less. Stanford's GI head told me 1/2 slice/day. -
A "fortune"? OT but I can't let this sit unchallenged. The US spends ~16% of its GDP on health care. Those other countries you refer to spend as little as half that, w/ better outcomes in every measure, from patient satisfaction to life expectancy. They spend from ~8% to ~11% of their GDPs. What you said is demonstrably false. Also the US is the...

ARCHIVED Avena Fatua Plant (Wild Oats)
tom replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've certainly read of ppl living in/near wheat-farming areas having problems at harvest time, so it's reasonable to me that wild oats could be a hazard. Haven't heard of it before but maybe (wise) others will chime in otherwise. -
ARCHIVED Testing Today. New Gi,, Im Hopful For Answers
tom replied to WitsEnd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congrats on finding a better Dr 1st (so far so good at the not-laughing-at-your-med-problems part . ...us sick ppl & our high standards!) & 2nd for finding a healthier path forward. The "gluten-free from here on out" ending has a nice ring to it. -
Hehe not to diminish any seriousness but it made me think of a scavenger hunt for symptoms. Or Go Fish. "Nope, anyone got morning-only ataxia?" Is the ear thing both ears?

ARCHIVED My Test Results (Finally!)
tom replied to MrsMcC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't know that, but it reminds me that I was surprised to see just this week two forum members said they were negative on blood & positive on endo/biopsy. Welcome to the gluten-free life! -

ARCHIVED Does Bcm7 (A Milk Opiod) Initiate Celiac Disease?
tom replied to icm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow I can really learn a lot in this thread. Codetalker, I think I saw the same show on epigenetics, or at least similar. It was fascinating. Skylark, that last link had the term "molecular mimicry" in the abstract. I've wondered whether when ppl dismiss "cross-reactivity" as (often rightfully imho) nutty, if a valid "molecular mimicry" possibility... -
ARCHIVED Need Help - Four Months Post-Diagnosis
tom replied to myadidas1981's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hehe I didn't notice we were replying at the same time! ******** Have you considered trying dairy-free and/or soy-free? If you do, give it at least 2 wks. I'd done soy-free trials of just 3-5 days 3x before a 2wk trial had near-miraculous results. -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
tom replied to ker0pi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are decent rice-based tortillas, tho I need to microwave/steam 'em a little to get better pliability. And a teff-based style made by at least 2 companies gets good reviews, but some other ingred kept me from trying them. Any WhFds or Trader Joe's type stores by you? -
Makes perfect sense to me, & I'm sure same too many others here. I had to also go soy-free before getting the HUGE difference in wake-up mental state. Wondering which new great things might be placebo-ey(sp?) is a fun game.

ARCHIVED A Variety Of Symptoms. Can Anyone Relate?
tom replied to RNEN80's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi RNEN80, Believe me, MANY here can relate to those symptoms! I bet there are loads of threads on this forum that can make you feel less lost in a hurry. I think you're in the right place. Good luck -
ARCHIVED Does Bcm7 (A Milk Opiod) Initiate Celiac Disease?
tom replied to icm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ahh thank you Skylark, I wanted to comment on the OP's topic looking more trigger-related than post-disease gluten-related but couldn't have said it as well as you. All I could get was a vague "there's a difference between pulling a trigger & pulling a trigger after the safety is off." Regarding the OP, the area of celiac disease triggers doesn... -
ARCHIVED Can't Get A Real Diagnosis
tom replied to Laury's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well Oscar, I'm not sure what "agenda" you could be referring to, beyond helping ppl whose problems aren't solved by their PCP's & GI's mainstream medical thought processes. Don't we see ppl on the forums every day who've been failed by their MDs? "IBS, here's a rest-of-your-life daily pill" "You're fine, but should maybe see a therapist" "Can't... -
ARCHIVED 14 And Gluten Free... Making Others Listen
tom replied to rml97's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi rml, I read your orig july5 post above which is now erased? I thought it was a good description of your situation, and well-written. I know the "can't be too careful" mindset, and that there's plenty of times i'd go 'overboard' by someone else's definition, but THEY don't know what it's like, do they? I say be as careful or overly careful as makes...
