  1. Your concern sure comes through. I don't have anything specific except that I suspect your friend will become more receptive over time. Food/behavioral issues are common enough that she'll hear more & if you've mentioned it here & there she'll know you're available to find out more. Someone must know of a good kids' food/behavior site. (Almost...
  2. I too found out a lot w/ a food/symptom diary. It helps to be eating more simply, or you may only narrow down the issue to "one or more ingreds in this 3 inch list". So, gluten-free for a year and mostly ok is a pretty good scenario for the diary to be helpful. Was that the 1st time you tried the protein shake or that particular type of Amy's dinner...
  3. Do I have this right, that the 1st pill was verified to have gluten? (Hate to think that some other culprit is remaining in the shadows) As far as the second pill, verified gluten-free w/ mnfctr, I'd take it w/ very little worry. My inclination would be that pharmaceutical CC should be far less likely than so many other CC sources. Here's a useful site...
  4. Wow that's really somethin! Glad you shared that.
  5. Argh! I hate that Drs can think that saying IBS ends the conversation. IBS is a symptom, not a diagnosis. I Be Stumped is all they're saying.
  6. Great post MitziG but isn't "to even hope" an exaggeration? Certainly some celiacs might not be dx'd in less than 3 months, but just as certainly, it's not ALL celiacs. The latest study I saw also recommended that "low moderate" dosage qty be used in future studies, in addition to reducing the 12wk challenge used for that study. Open Original Shared...
  7. That's a pretty farfetched thing to say about my response to your wild misrepresentation of my post, declaring it/me "unconscionable". The length of an effective gluten challenge has no consensus. When ppl use absolutes like "need x months" or "no chance of a positive unless x months", I'll continue to throw my 2 cents in. The sentences w/ absolutes...
  8. Sheesh .. ...kinda putting words in my mouth there. And I think you know it. I said that the study said 3 mos can be unnecessarily long. Ppl are going to do a challenge for as long as their Dr says to. I don't tell ppl how long to do a challenge. I object when ppl say "it NEEDS to be x months" or there's "no chance of a positive" unless 3 or ...
  9. ? I keep seeing ppl saying "months" while new forum members mostly say their Dr scheduled their challenge for some # of weeks. Here's a study that concluded 3 months is probably unnecessarily long. Open Original Shared Link They were investigating how long "celiac pill" trials should be.
  10. Any link for that? To me it sounds like a pretty extreme opinion. Aren't ppl dx'd all the time w/ just weeks of gluten?
  11. It sure gives me some insight into why so many have had their gallbladder removed - often seemingly unnecessarily when it didn't solve anything - before finding out about gluten. Interesting Mayo Dr comment on it being the signaling causing low function % instead of a functional incapability. Sounds like you have a great Dr., especially compared to...
  12. Well, St Louis writer, how nice for you. Unfortunately for us though, allegedly "de-glutened" beer made w/ barley malt STILL HAS GLUTEN AND MAKES MOST OF US SICK!! The ELISA test isn't all that useful in this situation, btw. Open Original Shared Link
  13. lol at the Alaskan joke that reminds me of (of which that remindeth?) In winter a mechanic comes upon a full facial-haired Alaskan whose truck has stalled. It's kinda desolate & it looks like he's been there a while so he stops, figuring he could help him out. In a few minutes, it's obvious what the problem is. "Looks like you blew a seal" he...
  14. Any link for that? I've been trying to gather info on gluten challenge durations & qtys, but I've found very little. IMHO, a challenge of "3-4 months of heavy gluten consumption" is very rare. People really have gotten positive celiac disease biopsies from just weeks of moderate consumption. SO many variables of course - for all we know some subjects...
  15. Hi Brandi, Wow that's overwhelming. I don't know what to do about most of it. Needing a Dr w/out any insurance but w/out an obvious ailment/broken bone our health care setup is broken. Are you close to 100% gluten-free? How about dairy? I was 24/7 miserable of varying degrees until 100% gluten-free, dairy-free (not just lactose) AND soy-free. Are there...
  16. And it's always nice to hear the success stories. I'm sure you can help ppl out, posting your experiences/thoughts etc. I'll never forget how lost & overwhelmed I felt in the beginning. (Long ago now but c.com was godsend) Welcome to the forum!
  17. Well, we can probably all agree that "Solution" is a stretch. I think most of us also agree that probiotics are helpful. The article claims, w/out substantiation, that healing celiacs need to be grain-free, not just gluten-free. That's not how *I've* heard it. Still, if not taking probiotics but reading on this site, try some.

  19. Here's one, tho on second look it's not about the ELISA testing failing, but rather that better testing DOES find gluten in the "deglutened" beers - one even had more than some of the regular beers. Open Original Shared Link (I added what's in parens) "Analysis of hordein deletion beers and commercially available beers confirmed that all the (regular...
  20. I don't think of hops as having a sedative effect. Pretty sure all the no-gluten-ingred gluten-free beers all have hops, don't they? Maybe hordein fractions do that. As prev said, most of us.
  21. "Most"? I don't think that's anywhere near true. At least in California - is there some sort of regional affinity elsewhere for gluteny sausages or deli meats?
  22. Well I dunno if you're crazy, but ya REALLY ARE probably fine.
  23. Sometimes the issue w/ milk can be the milk protein, casein, instead of lactose. Soy gets snuck into a lot of things w/ longer ingred lists. If things don't get better gluten-free, it's one thing to keep in mind.
  24. Kaiser only tests those 2 for celiac? Yikes I thought most places did 5 now. Actually even they did all 5 and all were negative, it's no guarantee that gluten isn't the problem. This place has no shortage of sero-negative ppl whose greatest health stride was going gluten-free. So yes, you could be celiac still, or NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerant, which...
  25. I think the Dr's vague because there aren't any real studies about quantity OR duration of a gluten challenge. Maybe the best you can do is aim for "normal" amounts of gluten. I'd go into it looking to document the challenge daily, as her response to it must be treated as a test result as valid as any other testing & not all Drs take it that way...
