  1. Did the Dr specifically say to keep eating gluten after the blood test? There's certainly a case to be made that actual tissue damage can't go away as quickly as a threshold level of antibodies.
  2. No, it's not. It's becoming rarer for Drs to use 3 months for the challenge. New members have posted that theirs was 2 wks & was positive. Study after study says 3 months is too long & that low-dose does the trick - 2-3 slices not required anymore either. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Dr. Visit..positive Experience

Nice to hear about a good Dr experience. Just one incision sounds about right. (Wondering what changed in procedure compared to multi-incision . ..better imaging maybe?) Good luck on Oct 24, tho it appears you won't need it.

    ARCHIVED Leftovers

I've experienced the same, tho it's been a few years. For quite some time I could only do leftovers that were frozen. One scenario starts w/ the thought that if that exact meal sat in the fridge for months, there'd be mold no matter how tightly it's sealed. (Excluding vacuum-packed, for sake of arg) That leads to the thought that rather than 'mold as invader...
  5. Not sure I understand the 'pressure me' part. It's a pretty easy procedure that 6 yr olds can handle just fine. Are you thinking of a downside that I'm missing?

    ARCHIVED What Kind Of Doc?

Wow Anianna that sucks & no appt until December?! I don't have DH but I thought a regular dermatologist could Dx it - not sure if I've seen the word Dermapathologist before. Re your last question: If it *is* DH, and therefore celiac disease, there's no other type of (reputable) Dr w/ a treatment that doesn't include 100% gluten-free. Even though...
  7. I'd be more likely to call it 'associated with' NCGI or Celiac than a 'symptom of'. Unfortunately, I'm sure plenty of GIs would disagree w/ that, partly due to the over-specialized nature of modern medicine.
  8. *raises hand* And I know there are others here. For me it seems to be anything w/ fumes, whether turpentine, Pinesol, strong vinegar or whatever. I've found I reflexively hold my breath walking past conference rooms at work, where perfumes/colognes can linger. I work after-hrs primarily. I haven't found a lot to do about it except put it in the MCS...
  9. It is. If you read through some sections like 'Coping With ...", you'll see others w/ weeks-long effects. I'm not sure how common that is & it's certainly good that your Dr is looking for other causes, but it's definitely possible.
  10. I think 6 wonderful months combined w/ the older positive biopsy should mean a lot. There are a lot of ways the 2008 biopsy could be a false negative. A few months ago, it was a little shocking to see some national GI group's survey say that 38% of our biopsies don't get enough samples. Their cutoff was 4. Another incredibly said many got no biopsy at...
  11. Mindwarp sounds pretty convinced his/her system is reacting to gluten. (I know you're really referring to how an accurate antibody test needs that antibody's stimulus.) The endoscopy/biopsy could show "damage consistent w/ celiac", leaving it up to individual Drs' whether to combine it w/ reactions including ER trips & DX celiac disease/NCGI, or go...
  12. I remember when it it felt like it may as well have been digestion itself that started a reaction - didn't matter at all *what* I ate. ugh That meal looks simple enough to seem safe. The wrong oil, if any, or dried spices could've done me in anyway in those days. Any chance something like that could apply?
  13. I'm onboard w/ the opioid peptides, but a little disappointed that the source article Open Original Shared Link says Gliadin is new?????? Then it brings up an opioid question - is the term 'comfort food' much newer than I thought, as in starting w/ the 60s-70s strains? Doubtful, right? My money's on opioid properties of 40s wheat, for instance...
  14. I don't have a quick fix, but it's maybe a fix. Keeping a food/symptom journal might show that the bloating corresponds to certain food(s). It wouldn't necessarily mean those foods are off-limits forever. Also, are you taking probiotics? If not, they could help.
  15. I'd lean towards thinking it's high-end enough to have chefs who'd take pride in making a safe & delicious gluten-free meal. It's expensive enough to have real chefs, isn't it?
  16. I would've said the same.
  17. Far from crazy, I think it sounds awesome. It's heartwrenching to read of hospitalized celiacs having problems getting safe food.
  18. Yup & yup. My guess would be that he'd want to look for Barrett's Esophagus (reflux-related), hiatal(sp?) hernia, etc. W/ Barrett's, my Dr wanted a baseline for future comparison. I'm not sure what it means, but he was particularly interested in some type of "goblet cells" being in unexpected places. Who knows, might be very useful info in years to...
  19. Hi Melina, Gluten Intolerance (or NCGI, non-celiac gluten intolerance) doesn't often seem to be all that simple around here, but I get that it's easy to use that adjective at first. Re the eczema - you should look into whether it might really be DH https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ , the celiac skin condition. A...
  20. Ahhh thanks Peter. That answers my original question. That's the 1st sentence of my 1st(oops 2nd) post in this thread. Trying to see what others thought. So thanks Peter & GottaSki There's certainly no shortage of false info re celiac disease % gluten-free online. It could almost be a subcategory in the Publications section, if such a thing...
  21. There's the misunderstanding again. I'm not at all looking to press for changes that I alone believe would benefit everyone. I'd like that IF everyone (well, most everyone) wanted a change, it'd be considered. 1st step has to be raising the question. BTW, I don't appreciate the disingenous misuse of my "moronic, useless articles" phrase as if it applied...
  22. Maybe I'm misreading this, but is it saying that the comments section there only has some fact-based commenters because of the link in this thread here? That seems unlikely.
  23. Hey I'm just saying there have been thousands of similarly moronic, useless articles about gluten-free on all sorts of blogs that WEREN'T given the publicity of a post here. Why this one? My googling of "science 2.0" & gluten doesn't support the idea that this article is making news all over the internet. As far as my starting w/ a PM to Scott...
  24. Don't most of us agree that this article deserves no mention here at all? Did it sneak in by pretending to be scientific via its hosting on a blog called Science2.0? I'm thinking these 'Publications' posts are auto-generated, so its initial posting is a price paid for the convenience. But if something as ridiculous as this makes it through again, wouldn...
