  1. Hi. I am Celiac. My grandmother was full Cherokee. I'm not sure how many pure bloods there are in order to get any kind of statistics, but would be interesting to know, not only about Celiac but about any "general illnesses" common to the races. Good luck finding your info!
  2. Just wanted to add a note. I've found that anti-inflammatories also cause outbreaks; like Ibuprofen and Aleve. I'm not sure about other types as I've avoided all pain relievers. For me they all cause more pain throughout my system than the pain I was trying to relieve. When I first started the gluten-free diet I had DH everywhere. I had several outbreaks...
  3. I also had severe pain in under and to the left of my sternum. By that time I was desperately ill, though, and had so many symptoms my Dr. didn't know what to do. The unspoken concern was cancer......somewhere. Fortunately for me we added endoscopy as long as I was going for colonoscopy. Hurray for me. It took a very long time but the severe pain did...
  4. Sorry to hear that you are having so many troubles. Not sure that I have any advice to give....mostly sympathy. Been there...as have so many others. You don't say how long you've been on the diet. Are you absolutely sure that you've eliminated every trace? As far as going back to gluten for a positive test...is it necessary, do you need that formal diagnosis...
  5. I get the rash anywhere and everywhere. I've had several flare ups, and it seems there is no pattern, shows up in new places as well as old. It does not mirror both sides of the body on me. There is no place left that I have not had a rash. For a while the break outs were getting smaller.....smaller areas and smaller blisters. I had a major glutening...
  6. This same problem was mentioned before by others. It IS a giant pain in the patootie. I thought I would get used to it, but I still don't like it.....too much work moving around for every line. I find that I give up before I read all of the current posts. Wish the old size settings would get restored. I tried changing my own screen resolution....didn...
  7. I don't always get symptoms right away. The digestive part generally starts fairly quickly, usually by the next day, and then I'll "feel sick" for about 3 weeks. My DH happens within 24 hours....also lasts about 3 weeks. The last time I had it really bad, lots of it in lots of places. the last time I got glutened, and I'm not at all sure what...
  8. Hi there! Like you my pressure has always been low. At times to the point where I was having "spells" of blacking out. I've had Dr.s tell me that I'm not drinking enough fluid. When I was really ill last year, and before my diagnosis and introduction to the word Celiac, my pressure would bottom out, so to speak. I was running about 70 - 80 over 40 -...
  9. I think that lots of us have dental complaints! My jaw is too small....so I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. They were trying to come in with no place to go. Like you, AliB, I had W. teeth growing sideways in my gums. Until I was in my 20's, I only had a filling or two....but they've deteriorated, mostly in the last 10 years, give or take. The...
  10. I lost the weight before diagnosis. One of my "sypmtoms" was rapid loss. In a matter of months I dropped from size 8 pants, to 6, to 4, and then the 4's were falling off and I couldn't find anything decent in a smaller size. Not that I looked all that hard.....I had no energy to shop anyway. I took a few months on the diet for my body to heal enough...
  11. I used to write music and poetry years ago, have even done some recording (again, long time ago). I play rhythm guitar and love to sing, at one time semi-professionally. I play flute and play at the keyboard. Unfortunately have not been taking much time for any of this for quite a while.....partly because I just don't feel good enough to. I used to...
  12. My mother went on a serious guilt trip about my illness....as if somehow it was her fault that she "gave me" this condition. I say condition because it sounds better to my ears than "disease". She won't get tested herself, tho' she knows subconsciously that she has it and that it has caused her misery and great sulffering throughout her life. Wish she...
  13. As you read more and more in this forum....you'll realize that you are not alone...nor abnormal. I would suggest that you read other posts related to what you are going through. Many of us have worse symptoms at first until we heal the inflammation and learn what our bodies accept as food and what it does not. Sometimes you will have other intolerances...
  14. I have no doubt about the connection between the disease and the disorders. Your body is reacting negatively to something that it needs to survive....food. You eat the foods that you think are healthy, and it makes you ill one way or another. You are caught in a double bind here......and the war is on. Brain/body knows it needs something, but that very...
  15. As I look back I see many, many times that Celiac raised it's ugly head. Problem was, no one knew anything about the disease back then...at least in my corner of the world. I had chronic infections from infancy....kidney, bladder, ear, sinus. Until I was in my late 30's I could expect to have ear infections. I was tested for allergies as a child and reacted...
  16. I was always cold, too. I still struggle with that, though am fairly new to "the diet". Because od Celiac Disease, my iron, ferritin levels, along with everything else were very low. Pretty strange....I was hyperthyroid, but still cold all of the time. My blood pressure was dangerously low, my body temp. ran normal at about 96. People think its funny...
  17. Hey, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I'm glad that you got to have a celebration. Sorry I'm so late with the congrats, I'm working at a new job, and don't seem to have a lot of energy for much else these days. I wish for you a wonderful year of constantly improving health, many moments of joy and wonder, peace in your heart and soul, and surrounded daily by love...
  18. Yes. That's it, yes. I've had 2 very major outbreaks. There is no place left on my body that has not had those bad blisters. As bad as they are, some places are harder to bear than others . The good thing is that eventually (never quickly enough!) they pass.
  19. About the only thing I can tolerate anymore....and not get DH is Tylenol. My DH outbreaks WERE getting less and less and smaller bumps. Somehow I got glutened (I think from a product that I thought was gluten-free and apparently wasn't), and I had a MAJOR outbreak of burning blistery rash. Guess I'm starting at ground zero again to get the DH out of my...
  20. I agree that it's very annoying. I can't read the posts without sliding back and forth. Subsequently, I read some of the posts and give up after a while. I like to read the posts, but all of the extra "activity" gets to me after a bit. I have tried to shrink the screen size with not result. Glad to know it's not my machine after all. Is there some way...
  21. Hi all! Glad to know that I'm not alone with the blood pressure thing. All of my adult life mine has been around 90/60. Had all of the dizzy stuff and everything that went with it. While I was very sick my pressure dropped, the lowest I know about was 80/45. I was having lots of heart arrythmias, cold all of the time (felt like I was freezing no matter...
  22. Hi. Some people feel better immediately. Some take months. I think most of us go up and down like a yoyo, especially at first as we learn about the foods, weed out other intolerances, and as our bodies adjust. We need time to heal, time for the body's systems to detox, and to level out with healthier living. You'll probably make mistakes with the diet...
  23. It would be nice, in a way, if we could convince our family members without fuss or resistance, to do what is in their own best interest. You know what you've gone through, you see what they are going through, and it breaks your heart to see them suffer and continue to suffer. You know that the answer could be relatively simple.....BUT.....being human as...
  24. When I was heavy into Heinlein, I also love Andre Norton sci-fi. Read lots of that stuff. I don't even know if book stores carry these anymore, do they? Maybe the libraries do.
  25. Like anything else, everyones experiences differ. I'm hoping you are feeling better soon, it may be nothing more than your body adjusting to the new changes. When I was pregnant with my son I was sick for the whole 9 months (I think I felt ok for the last week or so ), but I didn't know about Celiac disease, much less how it could affect my whole life...
