ARCHIVED Resources For Family Members To Understand X-contamination?
Ahorsesoul replied to StephanieM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think if I caught my dh doing this I'd tell him I'll wash off the arsenic I'm coating his chicken in from now on. He shouldn't worry, it'll rinse off. Then I'd be serving chicken twice a week for a few times (and let him see me rinse his chicken too). Just to keep him guessing. lol Yes, I do have a strange sense of humor. Once a lady at our church meeting... -

ARCHIVED Worcestershire Sauce
Ahorsesoul replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've looked at Bragg's so many times in the store. I've picked it up and put it back because I wasn't sure how it tasted. Then my local health food store had sushi tasting with Bragg's. Now I don't know what to do with the two bottles of soy sauce I have because Bragg's is much better. Love the stuff. -
ARCHIVED Calling All Cooks - Poison In The Pantry
Ahorsesoul replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cool test. I also tried plain baking soda and plain baking powder in water to see if they smelled different. Test results: I did use Rumford baking powder and Pamela's Baking and Pancake flour. It started to bubble up very quickly without any smell but wet flour. No difference 5 minutes later. I used Arm and Hammer baking soda and Pamela's flour.... -

ARCHIVED Hooray! Hooray! I Can't Believe It!
Ahorsesoul replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I shop at our local Fresh and Natural store. Mainly because the price label for all gluten free items has a red square on them. No guess work involved. I think this idea should be a law in all stores. -
Excellent Idea!

ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Extreme Morning Sickness
Ahorsesoul replied to Bethinjapan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have two children. With both, I was horribly sick from the two week point (before I even knew I might be with child) until I delivered. I finally found I could eat a steak for breakfast instead of the crackers the doctor kept telling me to try. At that point in my life I didn't know I should be eating gluten free. Sure wish I had because I hated being so... -

ARCHIVED Going Back To Meat...maybe. Craving Protein.
Ahorsesoul replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went vegetarian for almost two years. No meats until the cravings set in, then I'd eat a whole roast myself and have to find something else for dinner for dh. This went on for for the two years. I also craved peanut butter which I didn't even like. Then I was told by a nutritionist, that I was a celiac and really should be gluten free. She also said I was... -

ARCHIVED I Don't Know What To Feed My Kid!
Ahorsesoul replied to new2thegame's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Very often the lactose intolerance will go away after being gluten free. Both myself and dd's were completely gluten free for a year before it we could tolerate dairy again. Now we can eat all the dairy we want without problems, as long as it's also gluten free. -

ARCHIVED My Stomach Will Not Stop Bubbling!
Ahorsesoul replied to SteubensMom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I vote for making your kitchen gluten free. Then keep a food (and brand name) diary. After a few day you should find out what food/foods are causing your problem. If you write out everything you put in your mouth, your will figure it out. Remember things like gum and candy and soda all might contain hidden traces of gluten. -

Midel cookies. For some reason I don't buy them. Can't remember what they do but I remember not to put them in my cart. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Handle This Social Invite?
Ahorsesoul replied to gluten-no-more's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. Go and bring your own food and snack. Once you do this a few times it gets easier. Just try to be relaxed about it. You could also call the people catering the affair and ask if they have something gluten free. But still bring your own food. Sometimes their idea of gluten free is not putting a slice of bread on the plate of wheat pasta. lol I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac & Colitis? At Hospital Now, Confused. Please Read
Ahorsesoul replied to WorriedWife2009's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the same type of pain your dh had for years. My tummy would swell, be hard and painful. Sometimes I was in so much pain I broke out in a sweat and laid on the floor because I couldn't move. As a nurse I really think my intestines were telescoping or twisting. Be aggressive in asking for tests suggested on this site. A biopsy of the small intestine... -

Take a deep breath and let it out. Now just starting thinking, meat and veggies to start with. All needs to be without seasoning put on before they are sold. You can season at home. (check your seasonings too, esp mixes.) Processed meats (ham, lunch meat, bacon) all need to say gluten free to be safe. Wal-Mart's around the USA are starting to put in... -

ARCHIVED Chicken Ideas Please
Ahorsesoul replied to Ariauna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I cut a chicken breast in almost half (butterfly it), open it , put it into a large ziploc bag and pound it thin. Then I bread it and fry it in a little oil. Drain and serve with a little lemon juice. You can bread it crushed potato chips, crackers, crushed cereal or parmasan cheese. Add spices as desired. You can dip it in flour, then in beaten egg... -

I too love BiAglut. For awhile it was not being sold online. I'll have to look again. I order it by the case. When I can't get it I use Schar pastas. Schar has excellent crackers. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
