  2. tiadhani, You sound just like me when I was in my 20s (long ago). I wish I had a friend/roommate/doctor who would have told me I was celiac then. I have spent 40 plus years suffering with what doctors told me was 'nervous stomach', IBS, colitis and that I just needed to relax. I think once you are totally gluten free you will be amazed at how well you...
  3. Yep, I read the whole thing. It's the barley gluten that's bothering me.
  4. I can't drink them. I figured when I first went gluten free these would make a great breakfast to drink while I drove to work. I have extreme reactions to barley so they are out for me. There website says their flavorings contain barley but are gluten free. So they aren't gluten free just under the percent allowed. Under FAQ #3 Open Original Shared...
  5. Glad you wrote to them. Don't beat yourself up over the glutenizing issue. We all do it. It's how we learn the best. You are doing great.
  6. This thread is one of the reasons I love this site! I would not try this bread if it was not for your posting. I'm going hunting for it this week.
  7. I played with the link a few times. Sometimes I'd get page not found or the page showed up. So I'll just copy the info here: "Salad Dressing Newman's Own Gluten-free list from the
  8. mndtrp, You are another one of my heros for taking a stand with your celiac spouse! You'll need to decide if you like kissing your spouse or the (poisoned) beer better. Just because someone does not show symptoms doesn't mean there isn't damage being done.
  9. Nice article. I've ordered the book from my local library. tfs
  10. I do not believe the degree of symptoms have anything to do with how much damage is being done. Some people have NO symptoms but a high degree of damage. Just say no to Gluten anything.
  11. To me, it sounds like you really don't need to be tested. You've run the best test on yourself. You just need to ask yourself what will the test change in your life. It could come back negative but you will still react to the gluten.
  12. Two children, two celiac. Both showed signs during the time I breast feed because I tried to eat with the current food guidelines. Not sure if their Dad had celiac or not. I know my Dad has it but has never been tested. My mom may have had it (can't ask since she is no longer with us).
  13. Hey RiceGuy, I used good ole Wisconsin city water that I put into my Pur Filter (yes, the filter was NEW two weeks ago). I doubt we used the same water. I sure do wish some more people would try this and tell us their results.
  14. How fun. My right is shorter than the left but both are short according this info. When I was in nursing school, our instructor celebrated her 40th year in nursing. She had all kinds of info like this that she shared with us. The only one I remember is that if a patient has black hairs growing in his ears they may be prone to heart problems. I did ask...
  15. Go for it. Talk to everyone you can about this, it will help pave the way for other celiac children. I am so proud of you for taking a stand.
  16. Depends on what material was used to make them. And then it depends on how well you clean them. My guidelines are if they are glass or ceramic they should be fine once cleaned very well. Plastic or metal, probably not since they may have a seam where gluten can hide. I figure if the seam is something I can slide my fingernail into I don't use it but I...
  17. Keep a food diary. Soon you'll see what is the problem. You sound perfectly normal for someone who's being glutenized. Reminder to list anything that goes into your mouth including toothpaste, mouthwash, gum, medications... just everything. My dd kept having problems. We finally figured out it was the root beer she was drinking at work. Never thought to...
  18. Here's somthing on Wishbone Ranch Dressing dated July 2009: www.ourturn.com/FoodList/fd/FD-celiac disease-saladdress.htm Remember with gluten free there is no 'all' or 'everything'. Check those labels, what's gluten free today may not be tomorrow. You sound like you've done really well because you are listening to what your child reports.
  19. Cherie, Hang in there. You will feel better. Some of what you are feeling may just be from starting back to school. Let your body get adjusted to the new schedule and the demands from college work. Slowly chip away at what's bothering you the most, there are other ways of eating and doing things that will work for you. We are all behind you. Come vent...
  20. Wouldn't hurt for the adults in the household to go gluten free also. You may notice a difference in how you feel.
  21. Many years ago I used a menstrual cup. I figured out I was allergic to the material they made it with. If it hurts you to use it, please stop using it. Some how you body is not tolerating it.
  22. Hmmmm, I'm beginning to think it's the Chex too. Yesterday I made 'Chex mix' with corn chex and gluten free pretzels. Something is bothering me. I'll skip the chex mix for a few day and try it again. I haven't been eating Chex for breakfast for a few weeks since I knew something was not right about my digestive system. Just a little off. Knowing about...
  23. What fun. Love that he was found in a gluten free place.
  24. I do not find it odd. It says 'fit and active' which makes me think they are cutting out the fat so they have to replace it with something.
  25. I'd ask the school what they will be serving and try to match the snacks I send to match what the other kids will be eating.
