ARCHIVED Bleeding Gums, Sensitive Teeth
Ahorsesoul replied to SandyStPeteFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Bleeding gums make me ask if you might need to up your Vitamin C. Also if it's only a problem around the gold crowns you could be allergic to something they used to harden the gold. It's not 100% gold used in crowns. Or maybe an allergy to what product they used to cement them in place. I had a problem with my gum around a tooth with a lot of filling... -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
Ahorsesoul replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From reading this site, I'd say very few people are diagnosed by a doctor. Most people seem to have to tell the doctors they want to be tested because they (the patient) took the time to find out what was wrong. I also was told by a doctor at the Chiropractor that I was a celiac. Previous to this, an allergist told me I should just cut out wheat. But only... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Go To Hair Salons?
Ahorsesoul replied to Crayons574's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I call ahead to make an appointment. I ask them to find out what products they can use that are gluten free. The day before going to a new salon I stop by and ask ask they have figured out what products are gluten free. If they haven't done this, I cancel the appointment. I now go to an Aveda Salon. They called their company for their list and included... -
ARCHIVED If You Could Tell A Med Student Anything...
Ahorsesoul replied to heathen's topic in Doctors
Have an open mind to explore all the possible solutions for a patients symptoms. -
I have no trouble with blizzards from my local Dairy Queen. I am very sensitive to cc so I'm surprised that I do not have to ask at DQ for them to wipe down the equipment an extra time or to wash their hands before making my blizzard. I wish I could say this about all fast food places.

ARCHIVED Very Unusually Large Stools...
Ahorsesoul replied to mindyandy420's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor who told me 3 times a day explained that if we eat three times a day our body does not put a hold on the meals and process all at once. It processes as it comes in. The sooner it goes out the less time our bodies have to reabsorb the toxins. -
ARCHIVED Very Unusually Large Stools...
Ahorsesoul replied to mindyandy420's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think normal is different for each person depending on eating habits. I had a doctor tell me to try for three a day. The idea was to have one for each time you ate instead of waiting to have one movement a day. -
ARCHIVED Question For All Those Dx'd With Fibromyalgia
Ahorsesoul replied to shirleyujest's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have Fibromyalgia. I am being treated with Dr Teitelbaum's method with excellent results since July 2003. I have also noticed an improvement with the Fibromyalgia since going gluten free. I think treatment for Fribromyalgia is different for each person. The main point if to start a treatment and keep it up. A lot of times people stop their treatment because... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Foods Give Dh (not Celiac) Digestive Issues?
Ahorsesoul replied to Jana315's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I suggest you try a week long test. Make dinner that one serving is gluten free and on is not for your dh. Make sure to let him know you are making his items with gluten. Keep checking on how he is doing. The week after this make the dinners all gluten free but do not tell him. If it's all in his head you will be able to tell. -
ARCHIVED Feelin Lonely In Glutenland
Ahorsesoul replied to mandy-c's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Here's a recipe to feed your friends if you can eat milk and butter. Just double check all the ingredients to be sure your kitchen has them as gluten free. I've also heard this called Hot Fudge Sundae Cake Chocolate Cobbler Melt 2 sticks of butter in a 9x13 dish Mix together in a bowl; 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup gluten free flour 1 tsp. vanilla... -

ARCHIVED Inspiration Short Story
Ahorsesoul replied to Miss Emily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, I live my life the spoon way! I have nerve damage to both arms, fibromyalgia and a stroke. Oh yea and celiac. It's spoons for my life. -
Open Original Shared Link I used Pamela's Pancake and Baking mix in the amount listed. I also had buttermilk to use up so I used it instead of the milk (I'm sure plain milk is fine too). It turned out great. Served it warm with unsweetened whipped cream and chopped pecans.

ARCHIVED My Brother Makes Fun Of Me By...!
Ahorsesoul replied to Gluten-free-for-me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As long as you show your db that his teasing is bothering you, he will continue. I suggest you just laugh and tell him to have another (whatever it is) for you. And then thank him for eating it and keeping you healthy. I'm with the others who said his turn to eat gluten free may happen before long. Suggest to your parents that they all be tested. Brothers... -
ARCHIVED All My Make-up, Shampoo, And Lotion Has Gluten!
Ahorsesoul replied to ll79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I keep seeing that some people don't think celiacs need to avoid gluten in their personal care products that are not ingested. I'm sure the people writing these studies are only looking at the damage done to the intestinal track. If I use lotion or shampoo that contains gluten I start to itch. So there is another reason to avoid gluten in anything if you...
