ARCHIVED Help - Have Awful Migraine
Ahorsesoul replied to samsaracat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take B12 injections. One thing I noticed after starting them is my migraines reduced. Have a friend who will compain about her migraines once every few months. I'll ask her if she forgot her B12--yep. Not saying this will help you but you could talk to your doctor about it. With celiac disease absorbtion is a problem. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet May Help 2 Other Med Problems
Ahorsesoul replied to Silly Yaks's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have Fibromyalgia and I know it has improved on a gluten-free diet. Today I was talking to a care-giver. They had a child with Downs Syndrome who's behavior's improved after being put on a gluten-free diet. I can't image anyone who's behavior's wouldn't improve if they needed to be gluten free. The pain from eating gluten is terrible. -

I'll have to ask at our Wal-Mart about a gluten free section. I haven't seen one yet. -
ARCHIVED Wendy's Baked Potato?
Ahorsesoul replied to diannalynn0711's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm the same way, I know when I've eaten gluten, only takes 15 to 20 minutes before I'm heading the bathroom. I've given up fast food places for eating. There is no way they can not contaminate some of the gluten free items they serve. Might be ok for some people who aren't as sensitive but not for me. I think I'd react if someone was talking about making... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Types And Preferences?
Ahorsesoul replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
doodle, I wish you luck with your new store. I like Pamela's Baking and Pancake mix. I love the pizza crust, lemon bars and cinnamon rolls from Grandma Ferdon's. I also love things like Flour-less Chili Chocolate Cake (many recipes on the internet). Please keep us informed on how you are doing with your store. -
ARCHIVED What's For Dinner?
Ahorsesoul replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chicken Spaghetti Review This is wonderful! My dh who thinks green peppers are too spicy was not happy when I asked him to pick up a can of Rotel for this recipe. He ate two huge helpings. We loved this. The "canned cream of chicken" soup recipe is also fabulous. I made enough to freeze for more recipes. I'm going to use one for cream of mushroom soup... -
ARCHIVED What's For Dinner?
Ahorsesoul replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When I first went gluten-free I started my dinner plans with 1 meat, 2 veggies and a salad. Then I realized I could put more on the veggies than butter and cheese. I could make a cream sauce using a gluten-free thickener (I use corn starch). Now I just take a regualar recipe and adjust it. There isn't anything you can't find on the internet (maybe a good... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Have For Breakfast?
Ahorsesoul replied to Yoekie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I eat leftover dinner for breakfast alot. I've never liked real breakfast food. I'd rather eat a steak and baked potato. I've been gluten free for years so my mind set is into gluten free foods and not still stuck on the traditional things people think they need for breakfast. I don't eat eggs, fried or stirred up in pans (unborn chicks-ick) but I do... -

ARCHIVED Am I A Bad Mom For Not Letting Them Biopsy My 16 Month Old?
Ahorsesoul replied to Stacielovas's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A good mom would want to try the least invasive method first. If a gluten free diet works why do the other testing that could do damage to the intestines? Gluten and lactose are two things that could cause low wt gain. My baby sitter's dd turned out to be lactose intolerant and failed to gain wt. When she was two she finally saw a doctor who suggest trying... -
ARCHIVED Grrr-need A Deadly Gluten Shot For Hospital Staff
Ahorsesoul replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It keeps getting better. Had a meeting with the doctor. I'm happy with the outcome. The doctor was not happy when the nurse came in to tell us some how my dd seizure medication had been over looked and not given since Saturday. I think the doctor was really glad the person I had with me was not a lawyer but he didn't like it that I a witness to this statment... -
ARCHIVED Wisconsin Celiacs Unite!
Ahorsesoul replied to frenchiemama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm north of Hudson. I love Fresh and Natural in Hudson for shopping for gluten free foods. They mark their price tags with red if it's gluten free. So there's no guessing or reading labels. I'm adopting Grandma Ferdon and her family! Love their products. I have about 30 packages of her lefse stored in my freezer. They make excellent wraps for sandwiches... -

ARCHIVED Grrr-need A Deadly Gluten Shot For Hospital Staff
Ahorsesoul replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This morning dd Dr called from the hospital. He said since I was so pro-active with her care and since the hospital could not ensure her diet to be gluten free they wanted to send her home. Mind you they have not done any type of treatment for her. So I asked if my dd being on a special diet meant that they were refusing to provide treatment. Now she will... -
ARCHIVED Grrr-need A Deadly Gluten Shot For Hospital Staff
Ahorsesoul replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just received a call from the hospital ,the nurses were told by pharmacy that they will not release any medicine to my dd. They flat out refuse to call to find out if their generic meds are gluten free. I do understand that it is the weekend and they probably can't get a hold of a real live person at this time. Of course if it was a life or death situation... -
ARCHIVED Grrr-need A Deadly Gluten Shot For Hospital Staff
Ahorsesoul replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just returned from the hospital. Arrived at 11:30 so we'd be there when they served lunch. When we came into the nurses station they were dussusing my dd diet. They thought it was a PKU diet. When her tray arrived that's exactly what she received. I printed out the forms from GIG. Most excellent and exactly what I wanted. The nurses took them saying they... -
ARCHIVED Grrr-need A Deadly Gluten Shot For Hospital Staff
Ahorsesoul posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My dd (brain injured) was admitted to the hospital yesterday for some behavior problems. Nothing new and something she needs every now and then. I knew before getting to this hospital, one we had not been to before, that her gluten-free diet was going to be a problem. So I told the admitting nurse it was really important that they monitor her diet. What... -
I'm interested in finding a good medical person in the area too. So please keep us informed if you see any of these doctors. So far I've determined that this board is better than the medical people I've dealt with and I'm a nurse! I decided if I can't find one close to the Twin Cities area I'm heading to Rochester for an appointment at the Mayo Clinic...
