ARCHIVED Restaurant Told Me Not To Eat Their Chicken...
Ahorsesoul replied to waitingdorothea's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I react with gluten type symptoms when I eat pork. Not all the time. We live around a lot of pig farms. I heard some of them feed a lot old bakery items to their pigs when getting them ready for market. I'd love to raise two pigs, feeding one lots of wheat feed and the other no wheat. Then butcher and try them out. I wish we still had our little hobby... -
This is an excellent example of why we should always ask about gluten free items when eating out!

ARCHIVED 2 Years Later - Still Hurting
Ahorsesoul replied to Woodrow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Keep a food log. You maybe able to see some pattern. You could also post everything you've eaten for a day here to see if someone here can see something. Include the food, how it was prepared and the brand name. Brand name is important. You said you've been gluten free two years. How long did you go dairy and soy free? These items sometimes need to be... -
I suggest you cut out anything with oats and drop the yogurt from your diet for two weeks to see if that helps. I can't tolerate oats no matter if they are the gluten free kind. My dd can't tolerate yogurt. Also cut out anything diet or light since a lot of times these items can't be tolerated well or have gluten added to their recipe. If you haven't been...

ARCHIVED One Week Gluten Free, Now 6yr Old Is Hyper - Normal?
Ahorsesoul replied to Benshell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I had my ds on the Feingold's diet I found he could drink all the 7-up he wanted but couldn't drink anything artificially sweetened or colored. Also orange juice him extremely hyper. He could drink other fruit drinks but no OJ for him. Diet drinks send my dd off the walls. -
ARCHIVED New Celiac And Have To Travel!
Ahorsesoul replied to Frances03's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
You could post a question asking if anyone knows a good resturant in the cities you will be visiting. Post the cities name in the subject line so people in that area will know to read your posting. -
ARCHIVED Eating Out With A gluten-free Kid - Help
Ahorsesoul replied to Benshell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my kids were this age, I always packed them their own dinner in their lunch box along with some toys. They would eat while the adults had drinks and decided on what to order. By then the kids were done eating and were playing with their toys. Kids at other tables were crying and screaming by now because they wanted to eat and nothing for them had arrived... -
Bedbugs are coming back very strong. It doesn't matter about the housekeeping style, they just move right in. Sorry I can't be of more help. There was a news story on them not long ago but I really didn't listen.

ARCHIVED Help Me! Trying To Start A Support Group In My Hometown!
Ahorsesoul replied to Brooklyn528's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Our local grocery store is just starting up a gluten free support group. So check out places other than medical related for meeting places. We had 8 people at our first meeting. I'm looking forward to our next one to see if more people show up. I had no idea there were even 8 people in our small town who would be interested. -

Sorry about your trip. This has some old information about gluten-free in France just in case you go again. You should check out the suggestions online now to see what's still current. Be sure to research your next area before you go so you have some idea of dinning places. I will say that during the 4 years I lived in Germany, France was my least favorite...

ARCHIVED Fried Green Tomatoes
Ahorsesoul replied to GRUMP 1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Slice rather thick. Dipped in beaten egg. Then dip into parmesan cheese (add spices if desired). Fry in a little olive oil until brown. I know this will not keep but it's excellent for tonight's eating while you do something else with the test of them. One year I wrapped any tomatoes that had started to ripen in news paper. I kept them in a box in the... -
I had this problem the end of last year. My dr said just because my thyroid test was in the normal range didn't mean I did not need thyroid. She started me back on it and the hair loss stopped. The hard part is finding a doctor who can look at he whole person and not just test results.

For your crusty bread fix try 'Against the Grain' Baguettes. -
Today I was talking to Mayo Clinic about getting my dd in to see Dr Murray who treats celiac. One of the questions was had she had a bone density test done. She hadn't but mine done in 2000 showed osteopenia. I'm hoping he will see her. I'm interested in any info I can get from Mayo.

ARCHIVED Need Some Help Gaining Weight And Eating So Frustrated
Ahorsesoul replied to BKKloppenborg's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I suggest staying away from all gluten items, daily and soy for at least a month to see if you are not better. Portable food that will help you gain weight will depend on what you like to eat (other than bakery goods). An apple is easy to drag along and a small bowl of peanut butter for dipping will add calories for weight gain. My favorite is lunch meat... -
ARCHIVED Need Some Advice On Vitamins
Ahorsesoul replied to msmini14's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If this is a daily patch (don't know since I never smoked) can you switch the time you put it on? If you put it on in the morning change to night time. In the back of my mind I'm thinking they are a weekly thing. So glad you are sticking to this! My dh quit smoking after 40 yrs of smoking. Saves a lot of money and the benefits to your health are priceless... -
ARCHIVED Big Bob's Cornbread Mix Review
Ahorsesoul posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love corn bread. Jiffy mix use to be my favorite but now I've switched to Gluten Free Pantry. Since I have not found the GFP brand of cornbread for months I thought I'd try Big Bob's. I made it according to directions adding some corn, onions and bacon as I did with my other cornbreads. ICK ICK ICK. I made the whole package, we ate less than one... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac?

I hope you try a totally gluten free diet for a few weeks to see if there is any improvement. -
ARCHIVED Autistic Daughter W/ Strange Bowel Problems, Tooth Decay, More
Ahorsesoul replied to darlenevile's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sounds like the three of you could all try a few weeks off all gluten, dairy and soy to see if there is any improvement. Let us know if you try it. One of the side effects I (and my two children) had when we ate gluten was an itchy/burning rectum. If this is bothering a child I can see why they would not want to move their bowels. Children may not know... -
ARCHIVED I'm Back, And I Have Celiac Disease!

"I feel FANTASTIC!!!" That sure does say it all! You are now an official member of the gluten free club! It's so nice to finally figure out what's wrong that we do cartwheels to find out we are celiacs. lol -
ARCHIVED My Feelings And Thoughts About Celiac And Doctors
Ahorsesoul replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Doctors
Good one Susan! And so very true. -
I probably shouldn't post my true feelings about doctors who are giving out bad or no advice about celiac disease. I've been in the medical field since 1972 so I have experience from both sides of the fence. I think we all have to do our best to find a doctor who will listen to us and check out the latest info on celiac disease. Sure it is easier said...
