Hi! Got the results of the colonoscopy. No cancer, thank God! It did show collagenous colitis though, so he wants to see me on Oct 26th to start a treatment plan. I won't know what that is until I see him..... I haven't gotten the results yet of the bone density scan..... Huge sigh of relief!!!! Thanks to all for your prayers and support!!...

Hi Guys. First off, I still haven't gotten the results of the colonoscopy and the bone density test done last week. I get those tomorrow...... Tonight I feel terrible, nauseous, bloated, diarrhea, pain, the usual celiac stuff.... There are only two possible things: 1. I tried Amy's gluten-free Shepherd's Pie for lunch today. It tasted delicious...

ARCHIVED Itching..anyone Else?
Canadian Karen replied to Twister2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get it in my scalp, constantly throughout the day. There is no psoriasis or anything. Just itchiness. Drives me nut too! I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner which I know is gluten-free, so that can't be it. Just another thing I have to "grin and bear" in the Celiac world.... Karen -
ARCHIVED Celiac Smoker
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree. It is a grass, not a grain. But the first thing I thought of is the glue in the papers, especially when they lick it after they roll it..... Karen -
ARCHIVED Daycare/cd Questions And Breadmachine ?.
Canadian Karen replied to jenr69's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Snakatas crackers are absolutely delicious and come in four different flavours and shapes.... I get them for me but my kids end up eating them on me!!! They are made in Australia but I have found them in numerous places here in Canada. Karen -
ARCHIVED Celiac In Toronto News Today
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wow! I think the magazine really missed the boat on this one!!!! First of all, any person who successfully brings awareness to the plight of celiacs is, in my books anyway, doing a great job! Secondly, how can a gluten free magazine possibly give approval to a "low gluten" host? Maybe their magazine should be a "low gluten magazine", and not "gluten... -
Hi! I use Stevia for my tea. It is definitely gluten free and tastes quite good too. I have never cooked with it though..... Karen

ARCHIVED Wish Me Luck!
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Guys..... Well, it is over and done with, thank God..... I really didn't feel too much during the procedure because he gave me Demerol and Valium, so I felt REAL GOOD!!! The prep stuff was horrid, of course.... The last thing a person with chronic diarrhea needs to take is Citro-Mag and Kleen Prep!!! He said afterwards that he removed several... -
Hi Everyone! Please wish me luck tomorrow - I have my colonoscopy. Depending on what the biopsy results are, depends on whether or not I need to be admitted to hospital for prednisone treatment.... Please send good luck vibes my way! Thanks! Karen

ARCHIVED Sheesh, Why Am I Still Having Problems?
Canadian Karen replied to HappyCat22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Cool Cat! Thanks for the reassurance that Demoral will do the job, I am not looking forward to the colonoscopy in regards to the "discomfort", but I am anxious to get it over with to get some results...... I have it on September 28th...... Have a great day! Karen -

ARCHIVED Stomache Bloating/gas Daily
Canadian Karen replied to campcour's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi..... I just wanted to mention that if you are taking anything for the gas/bloating, make sure it is gluten free. I made the mistake of thinking Gas-X was gluten-free and I was eating them like candy because my gas/bloating was so bad. Found out recently they actually contain gluten. Just wanted to make sure you aren't making the same mistake..... -

ARCHIVED So Depressed!
Canadian Karen replied to feedjake92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would say that depression is actually a major symptom of celiac disease.... Not only because of the malnutrition and malabsorption, but secondly because each time I get "glutened", it puts me on an emotional roller coaster. Also, another reason that depression is common with celiacs is because many celiacs also have hypothyroidism (like me) and depression... -

ARCHIVED Coping With Mis-diagnosis
Canadian Karen replied to GEF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Right now he has me on also a dairy free/sugar free/caffeine free/soy free diet along with the gluten free...... at least until I have the colonoscopy on September 28th. The results of the blood tests will tell us which way to go from here.... he is checking for numerous things, i.e. collagenous colitis.... I have to admit that since I have been dairy... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Mis-diagnosis
Canadian Karen replied to GEF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had a diagnosis flip flop since 1989. I was originally diagnosed with Celiac Disease back in 1989. After a year on the diet with no improvement, the dr. changed his diagnosis to Crohns. Well, 2 years ago, the bloodwork and biopsy confirmed Celiac Disease 100%. So I have been back and forth, back and forth.... Oh well, at least now I know 10... -
ARCHIVED Help Please
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When my stomach gets really bad, the only thing that will calm it down for me is my heating pad and rocking back and forth. It always settles it down after around 10 minutes..... Karen -
ARCHIVED Peanuts?
Canadian Karen replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a problem with peanuts but it is nothing to do with an actual allergy.... I am a very hard time digesting peanuts and they really hurt my system going through.... I don't have a problem with peanut butter though (the smooth kind).. Have a great day! Karen -
I also get vertigo..... It is particularly bad for me in the car when I have to look over my shoulder to talk to the kids...... WOW! My world spins!! Karen

ARCHIVED Firmly Gf With Continuing Symptoms
Canadian Karen replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi celiac3270..... Sounds like you are at least doing the process of elimination for diagnosis.... Regarding the ulcers, there are numerous studies that show that ulcers are actually caused by the H-pylori virus (not sure about the spelling....) You can read up on it on a really good website I use quite often (for my four kids, especially), it is www...
