That is true Emily, but a big change in diet can help manage it much better. Switching from a "carbohydrate" burning metabolism to a "fat" burning system really helps a lot. Then you dont rely on insulin so much.

What are you doing for your Thyroid and your Adrenals?? It isnt easy to get these balanced and not just any ol doctor will do. You need someone who really understands how these organs work and what meds to try (there are many meds to choose from and there are no better meds, but everyone is different and you have to find out which one(s) work best for you).

A little warning on the Xylitol.....you have to "build up" to it. Or you can get horrible gas and D. A little each day to build up and you will be fine.
-
Ummm...no that is "not normal". Your mucosa should look like little inverted chilli peppers. Time for a NEW DOCTOR.

Honestly, I feel every day is a blessing even if I am sick. I almost died at birth, drowned but was revived at 9, almost died at 13 with a ruptured appendix and survived a horrible car accident. Clearly I have a purpose here.
I hate being sick. But at my lowest and sickest point I asked God to help me be able to mother my daughter (she is now 12) and I feel that getting that privilege is worth staying positive. I dont want to miss a year of teaching her and watching her grow. I also wouldnt want to miss a year of snuggling with my husband every night and playing with my doggies everyday.

A good friend of mine has RA. She did the drugs for a few years, but had to quit because she was gaining SO much weight and it was starting to affect her liver. She has been off the drugs now for about 4 months and says she stays pain free by avoiding nightshades and grains.

Knowing what I know now, I would have started with things like butternut squash, acorn squash and sweet potato for a few months (provided still getting nutrition from mother's milk or formula), then I would add some fruits and pureed veggies for a few months, then start on the grains. At this same time starting some pureed meats (if you are not vegetarian). Wait till 1 year for things like dairy (yogurt is the best choice), eggs and nut butters. IMO

DH doesnt eat fish, but asked if this crust could work for chicken. I thought it could. So I Googled "Pecan Crusted Chicken" and found recipes. So I will try this same thing with chicken soon.

I know what you mean. Most of my friends dont bother anymore. I always bring my own food. I bring enough to share and I am a pretty good cook (so that helps). I have a few good friends who like cooking for me. One good friend recently made me and my family dinner. Bless her heart. She used tin-foil on everything even the glass bakeware. She didnt make anything that required a cutting board. Used metal spoons (not wooden). Cleared every ingredient with me beforehand including the spices, oils and salt. She made a delicious herb baked chicken and sweet potatoes. I brought a salad and some of my homemade dressing. Sorbet for dessert. It was awesome and I didnt get sick at all. I dont expect anyone to cater to me, but I have found really good friends actually want to and they dont want me to get sick.
If I ever find myself surrounded by buttholes....I limit my time with them and spend more time with the people that care and dont treat me like I am weird. Including my family. I spend time with people that lift me up.....not bring me down. And these days I am pretty blunt about it....."Mom if you are going to keep saying those things, I am going to hang up and not speak with you until we can have a conversation without that material. I will hang up everytime. Ok?" and it works!!
I have discovered in life that not everyone will like me, but most respect me. It is good enough for me.
Take a look around and ask yourself why you are trying to people please? Most women need to learn to care for themselves and put themselves first now and again. You deserve it.

I am on the SCD diet about 90%. So I cut out all grains for now. No buckwheat either (it is a grass and not a grain tho). They really raise my blood sugar. More than honey. Weird. I might add a few back in here and there for variety someday. But honestly, I dont miss them at all. There is so much wonderful food out there and I am enjoying experimenting.
Right now I am enjoying plantains a bit too much.
Chips and baked. They are not SCD. But they dont bother me. I go through phases anyway. I will likely switch to something else at some point.
My ground ginger does have heat. Then again, I usually double or triple the spices in any recipe I make. It never seems enough spice for me otherwise. Enough ginger and black pepper and you get some heat.
I never really measure anyway. Just guesstimate and throw it in. I am a good cook and just getting better with trying all of these new foods. I think I could have been a chef in another life.
Cinnamon and clove add a nice sweet spice to the curry. I use them in the least amount with a heavy hand on the Tumeric, ginger, corriander and cumin.
I just experiment and see what happens!

I put the "Drunken Chicken" in the crock earlier. Will have it for dinner. Here is my version for the crock pot:
4 chicken breasts
2 - 8 ounce cans pineapple chunks (it is what I had)
1/4 cup Fish Sauce (it is what I can have NO SOY for me)
1/2 cup light rum
4 tsp minced bottled ginger (asian food aisle or store)
4 tsp chopped bottled garlic
1 large white onion chopped
2 - 5 ounce cans of sliced water chestnuts (juice and all)
6 tablespoons arrowroot powder (no corn for me)
1/2 cup of water
1/4 cup sesame oil
1 tsp black pepper (I want it with a little heat)
(tasted with finger and added some regular sea salt to my liking)
Will let you know!!

For a couple hundred they can come in and test your air for mold spores. And then help you get rid of it....it isnt cheap. But if you could at least afford to test....then you would know if you need to move or treat. Hopefully it was confined to the bed itself and your air will be o.k.. It isnt worth playing with mold. Unfortunately people can get very sick and even die if they stay in a mold saturated home. I live in FL and there are cases all of the time.

What do you mean by IgA elevated. They should have tested for total IgA and also the IgA mediated anitbody to gliadin. Which one are you referring to? You really should request a copy of the lab results. It is your legal right.
She certainly has the symptoms. If they do an endoscopy and it comes back neg. they may say "no celiac", but the proof is ALWAYS in the diet and it is ALWAYS worth a try.

Potential Chronic Health Effects:
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available.
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Not available.
TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available.
DEVELOPMENTAL TOXICITY: Not available.
The substance may be toxic to liver, skin.
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.
***Those last two warnings are ominous enough to me. "Repeated" or "Prolonged" exposure....like taking supplements everyday??? Yup.
And when it says "Not Available.".....it just means that it has not been studied yet. No one has done the experiments to determine if it causes cancer or birth defects, etc. Doesnt mean it doesnt.
So far, they just know it can cause liver and skin toxicity and target organ damage.
Who wants that?

I feel like I am on trial.
If you type in "Magnesium Stearate" + "toxicity" you will find TONS of data about this toxic substance. Here is ONLY ONE of the MANY:
www.sciencelab.com/xMSDS-Magnesium_stearate-9927217
Pay particular note to "Section 3". If that doesnt make you take pause, I dont know what will.

magnesium stearate is a lubricant. The only purpose it serves is to make the materials that go into the capsules move smoothly down the equipment. It is toxic and should be avoided. I am in the process of changing out ALL of my supplements that have it with supplements without fillers. Yes they are more expensive, but do I really need to be filling my body with toxic industrial lubricants everyday? No I dont.
Pure Encapsulation is a good place to look. I have found a few others too that dont use the fillers.

OMG...you must be horrified!! I know I would be. Get a lawyer or contact the law suit....geez.....you poor thing. Guess you are bed shopping today.

Im not eating grains. So here is what I am going to try. Dumping all of the ingredients in the crock pot and cooking on low heat from breakfast till dinner. I think it will be super.
I will put over cabbage I think....sauteed cabbage sounds good for this meal.
-
If you respond positively to the diet, then by all means say "I have Celiac disease."

I.K.E......Corrumba!! He is already a Cat.3 and nothing but warm open water to let him get stronger. Aiming directly for Florida.....so I am watching closely to see what this B*s*t*rd is going to do.

That really stinks!! My husband is a college professor and believe me, he hates the conditions he has to teach in sometimes. Pathetic!!
Does the Immodium stop the D well? Never used it. I guess you could try it and see how you react to it, so you could use it just for the class if it works.
Feeling for you. You are obviously a very strong and brave woman. Hats of to you.

I buy nut flours from Digestive Wellness and bought some pecan meal this last time. I used a small amount in some yummy spice cake but knew there had to be other uses for it. I made this tonight. Super easy and oh so yummy:
Pecan-Crusted Salmon with Honey Mustard Glaze (original recipe from betterrecipes.com)
Ingredients:
2 salmon fillets
1/4 c. honey
1/4 c. dijon mustard
1/8 c. olive oil, or as needed to thin glaze
1 T lemon juice
1 1/2 cup shelled pecans, finely ground
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
In small bowl combine honey, mustard, oil, lemon juice for glaze using just enough oil to keep glaze from getting too thick (I added some salt and pepper to the glaze). (Salted & peppered the salmon before adding the glaze) Coat salmon lightly with glaze, then cover with ground pecans. Salt and pepper to taste. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Bake salmon on a baking sheet lined with foil for 12-15 minutes or until salmon flakes. Serve at once, top with more glaze if so desired.

Mine are vertigo, migraine and neuropathy. But ALL of them are markedly improved after the past 5 months gluten-free plus some other things I am doing to get better.
