  1. Yup on the Cliff Bars.....sometimes all it takes is a 5 second Google to find out if a product has gluten:

Are any of your products gluten-free?

While CLIF Nectar, Splashers, Twisted Fruit, LUNA Elixir, Luna Sports Products, CLIF SHOT gels, CLIF SHOT BLOKS, and CLIF SHOT Energy Drinks do not contain any gluten ingredients, they are not produced in a gluten-free zone. All other Clif products contain gluten as an active ingredient.

***And why not make your toddler gluten-free brownies?? They are every bit as good according to my Hubby and Daughter. Im not eating any grains right now, so have not tasted them. But they sure gobble em up. Pamelas is what I use for a mix or I make homemade.

  2. do you have your thyroid lab results with reference ranges? Did they test FREE T4, FREE T3, TSH and both antibodies???

If you can afford it, you can test with Enterolab. They will run genetic testing for Celiac and gluten sensitivity PLUS you can order antibody tests for gluten, dairy, egg and soy. Those are ALL problem foods for many.

If all else fails, you have nothing to lose by trying a GLUTEN FREE diet. Also eliminate Dairy, Soy and Egg at least for the first 3 months. Then re-introduce all of them one by one if you are felling better. If you have a problem with gluten, it may be permanent. Enterolab can help you make firm decisions about your diet and health.

  3. Celiac is a genetic disease that is triggered by gluten. There is currently no cure for it. Someday there may be genetic therapy.

There is, however, a way to treat and heal Celiac. It is a 100% gluten free diet.

The SCD treats/heals Celiac because it is gluten free. It does not cure it.

  4. People make assumptions. Often they are wrong. Just because a chicken eats wheat grain does not mean that the egg has gluten. I eat eggs with ZERO problems. I buy organic, free range vegetarian 4 grain feed eggs. I am sure one of those 4 grains is wheat because it is cheap. One is surely corn. I have issues with corn, but not eggs. I have issues with gluten, but not eggs. Gluten gives me vertigo and headache. Eggs dont.

I did some research online for 10 minutes and found NOTHING to support this. But I did find this recipe that looks yummy :)

  5. French fries you make at home are PERFECTLY safe. :) At restaurants they often fry the french fries in the same oil that they fry everything else in like onion rings (which are breaded), fish, egg rolls, etc. It isnt safe at all to eat fries out unless the restaurant tells you they have a dedicated fryer and that the potatoes were not dusted with flour beforehand to make them "crisper".

Ketchup should be gluten-free, but you should check online or call first if you are uncertain.

  6. Black pepper, ginger and mustard add a little heat to curries. :) Those are good with Indian. I did exactly as RiceGuy said and put everything in my curry powder except the red pepper. It turned out yummy. Traditionally, Indian curry powder did not contain chillies, rather a frangrant blend of turmeric, cumin and coriander seeds, fenugreek, cloves, ginger, mustard seeds, cardamon, cinnamon and black pepper. Chillies were introduced to India in the 17th century by the Portuguese and became favorable because they were a cheap way to add heat and spice.

I found a delicious kale soup recipe that called for ginger and black pepper. I tripled the amounts they suggested. It was nice and spicy. :) A fair amount of heat too.

Cumin adds a mild amount of heat to foods.

This will help with Indian curries, just sub ginger for Cayenne

Hot peppers increase intestinal permeability. This is something to consider in Celiacs, Gluten Intolerant and Food sensitive (leaky gut) individuals:

This study states that BLACK PEPPER, BAY LEAF and NUTMEG make the tight junctions tighter (a good thing) to keep large molecules out of the blood stream.

  7. Apple cider and rice vinegars are perfectly safe. They say the other vinegars are fine too. Avoid MALT vinegars only.

There is a WHOLE WORLD of food out there to eat!!!! Delicious foods: ALL MEATS, ALL VEGGIES, ALL FRUITS, NUTS SEEDS, RICE, POTATOES, CORN, TINKYADA PASTA and the list goes on. There is also a gluten-free replacement for just about everything. I even found a place online that will ship cannolis to you. gluten-free cannolis.

It takes some effort if you want to eat processed/man made foods. But if you open your eyes to natural goods....the world is your oyster. :)

  8. There is NO GUARANTEE that this will help you at all if you get some gluten, and a Celiac should NEVER use this in order to eat gluten on purpose, but you could buy some Glutenease or another similar product (there are several out there I just dont know the other products names). With this said, you could get sick. So if it were me, I would pack some dried fruit and nuts to keep in my purse if a meal looks suspicious or they cannot assure me that my meal is gluten-free. Also maybe take along some of those individual tuna's with the pop top so you could eat that with a salad. Maybe a handful of gluten-free bars like Lara bars or others to keep in your purse or pocket.

I know you paid for it and no one wants to waste money. But is getting sick worth it? It wouldnt be for me. I would want to actually enjoy the retreat.

  9. OK people....I made those grain free chocolate chip cookies. I had to. ;) I used the Enjoy Life choco chips because they are gluten, soy and dairy free. :) I know I cannot eat a lot of chocolate, so this was a definite SPLURGE. But they were oh...oh....so yummy....So I told my DH and DD to eat them all up......LOL

  10. I know it can be VERY frustrating.

But I am on a Gluten, Dairy and Soy free diet and feeling great FINALLY!! I was egg free for about 4 months and just recently started eating a few here and there with no problems.

It might sound overwhelming, but a gluten-free, DF, SF and EF diet can be quite healthy and you may find that after a few months or so, you start feeling really good.

You have NOTHING to lose by trying. :)

  11. IgE is the antibody that is related to anaphalactic, wheezing, excema and the like. Right now you are "tolerating" it, but you can bet there is a cut off point. And with this type of allergy antibody, there is no way of knowing what that cut off is (2 tlb, 3 tlb of PB?) OR if your body will decide one day "enough is enough"!! And one peanut sends you to the ER.

Rotating might be a horrible idea in that when you remove an allergen (even for 4 days) the subsequent reaction can be EXTREME compared to when you were eating it regularly.

I wouldnt play with this one. PLEASE talk to your doctor as soon as you can. You may need to keep an Epi pen on you at all times.
