  1. I do like Red Bridge, but I first tasted it after two years with NO beer. That may have an effect! I really prefer Bards. To me it tastes similar to my memory of Anchor Steam, which I loved. Unfortunately, Bards is not available here, so I am happy with Red Bridge... sometimes VERY happy!
  2. Life is too short to drink bad wine. Stick with the good stuff. It isn't all expensive. Check out the reccommended ones in Wine Spectator magazine (I read it free at the library) Some of the highly rated ones are under $20 a bottle.
  3. I just called the company about Lea & Perrins worcestershire sauce and they said it is gluten free. They also offered to email me a list of all their gluten free products. I do love cooperative companies!
  4. I have used the Bisquick to make guess what... biscuits. I followed their recipe except I don't like drop biscuits so I formed them by hand (coated hands with a little Bisquick) They aren't what I used to make but far and away better than any gluten-free recipe I have tried.

    ARCHIVED Tax Credit?

It hardly seems worth the trouble. Especially since I keep a gluten-free kitchen and I'm the only celiac, the record keeping would be a nightmare.
  6. Oh, gee, I wish you hadn't said Popeye's chicken. Especially the spicy. Now I'm really craving. I'll have to see what I can do with a raw chicken, some gluten-free flour and Chechere's Cajun seasoning.
  7. I tried a couple of things (pie crust and biscuits) with disasterous results. Better to stick to the well developed specialty recipes for me.
  8. I made some yesterday and frosted them with milk chocolate frosting. I have to double up at the gym, but it's worth it! Imsohungry, thanks for your story. Gave me a good laugh!
  9. Ah, to be able to order a beer in a restaurant or bar. I can have gluten-free beer at home, but no bars carry it. I can have a mixed drink or wine, but I love beer!
  10. I was diagnosed almost three years ago, and yes, it does get easier. It becomes totally natural. BUT.... there are still times that I rail against my body and cry ( big baby, huh?) because I can't just graze at a cocktail party or eat everything on the mid-way at a fair. Those times I try to remember how bad I felt and how exhausted I was all the time. My...
  11. I understand!!! My idea of State Fair (starts here next week) is walking around with a lemonade and a corn dog. This year I'm making corn dogs and smuggling them in in my purse. I even have the little packets of mustard. Not like the real thing, but I can pretend! Last year I cried all the way home because I couldn't have a corn dog. This time I'm ready...
  12. Yoplait Light is marked gluten free on the container. I think I'll stay with that.
  13. You can also remind the doctor that stopping smoking is hard. Does he reccommend that his patients keep smoking?
  14. For the sleep, you might try melatonin (OTC) It has really helped me. Just be sure the brand you buy is gluten free.
  15. Sometimes you have to just do what you feel is best for you and ignore the nay-sayers. Try gluten free (it's not as hard as they would have you believe) and if it helps you, so what to them.
  16. Thank all of you for your input. It seems it is as I suspected. Triumph needs to update their cards. Tomorrow I will contact them and at least maybe get my money back. I hope they will do a little more research and redo the cards.
  17. I just recieved the Triumph dining cards I ordered and I am upset. They list blue cheese as a no-no. Also they say to avoid any form of food coloring, natural or artificial flavoring or modified food starch, That about covers all food in a restaurant. I have been eating all af those ingredients with no problem. What's the deal here? Are those actually...
  18. Hormel pepperoni stix are gluten free, so there's a protien. They are individually wrapped and don't need refrigeration.
  19. When I tried it I didn't have bread crumbs, so I used chopped toasted almonds. What a good dish! Next I'm going to try thr same thing with broccoli. Irish daveyboy, you are wonderful. I have learned that I can always trust your information and advice. That is a good thing!
  20. Thanks. I will try the gluten-free Pantry. I have to order the Chebe (and I do love it) so it will be the second attempt.
  21. That does sound good, and I can do a cookie crumb crust ( I use MiDel ginger snaps) but I need a regular crust for cobbler or chicken pot pie. HELP!
  22. I know this has been discussed before, but every pie crust I have tried has been awful. I am generally a very good cook and have been able to convert most of my recipes to gluten-free, but every pie crust I try is crumbly, sandy or otherwise just awful. Can some one help me?
  23. Last week I did fried catfish filets and got raves: Mist filets with water. (I use a spray bottle I bought at a beauty supply store) Salt and pepper liberally. Dredge in yellow cornmeal. (I use plain grocery store, but look for gluten-free if you are particularly sensitive. I have had no problems with the regular store brand.) Fry in hot (360 degree...
  24. I make my own sometimes for a treat (when I feel like splurging on the calories) I use heavy cream, sugar and vanilla. Really good. Adjust the proportions to suit your taste.
  25. Thanks, irish daveyboy. I think I'll surprise my man tonight with an Oriental dinner. Spring rolls and your fried rice to which I will add a few sauted shrimp.Add a Thai cucumber salad (marinate thinly sliced cucumbers and red onion in vinegar, sugar and red pepper) and I'm all set! Gluten free CAN be good and varied!
