from about 1994-1998: i had the world's WORST excema on my right foot (on the inside)- i would scratch it till it bled- and i would have to stop scratching- but the itch would still be there- it was HORRIBLE. i would wake up in the middle of the night to itch it when i went on Atkins- it went away.. and even tho i didnt go 100% Gluten free till July 1, ...

T.H.- you make an EXCELLENT point.. i was just thinking about this 2 days ago. because i was eating Diamond Pecan/rice crackers... i had never had a reaction to them before.. but my right forearm was itchy for a good 24 hours. my right forearm is where i had an itch and some bumps that COULD have been DH.. but i was never really sure.. it wasnt as pronounced...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Recurrent C.diff
cassP replied to Anya's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
yes, low iga can create inconclusive or false negative results... ESPECIALLY if she is ALSO on a LOW gluten diet. Also- her being low on Iga can mean that she is also more susceptible to infections (could explain recurring c diff) i hope someone has better advice for u as far as helping build her immunity and whether or not to subject her to an endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Endoscopy?
cassP replied to fattycat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
healing while going gluten free takes time- you cannot judge every reaction & nonreaction in the first month- it can take AT LEAST a month to normalize and not have reactions... in fact during this transitional period- you could have gluten like reactions to almost anything including water. i hope you go gluten free.. i think the damage in the biopsies... -
ARCHIVED Almost Hoping I Have It...
cassP replied to Jenny Leigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OMG, now i am very new to all this thyroid stuff- i just got dx with Hypo (TSH 11.39)... but i am PRETTY SURE that 125mcg is way too high for a STARTING DOSE... no wonder u felt sick and dizzy. but i am confused at how your TSH dropped to 3. something with no meds??? idk.. im still learning about it. and all your gluten antibody tests are so negative... -
ARCHIVED I Think I'm Having A Dh Outbreak But Not Sure
cassP replied to kayo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
i dont think its too late... i did the iodine test- but you're supposed to leave it on for 24 hours... i could only handle 45 minutes- the iodine was burning my skin off so, i didnt know if it would work- but i did get a few more blisters. ?? it is hard to tell when there's only one?? its easier to identify if its in a cluster... maybe the iodine will... -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency?
cassP replied to shacon-bacon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Iga Deficiency can be common in Celiacs. if your daughter is Low or Deficient in Iga- then her Tissue Transglutamse Iga and Antigliadin Iga could be false negative. because if she is not making adequate Iga, then all her Iga will be LOWER than what they would be make sense?? im Iga Deficient.. and my TTG result was a "weak positive". if i had normal... -
ARCHIVED First Trip With New Girlfriend- Have Some Concerns
cassP replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jason- WHERE in Colorado??? im always seeing on Twitter- that there's a lot of gluten free restaurants/bakeries in Colorado. i follow this girl, she's a gluten-free blogger out of denver i think... but she's always mentioning restaurants in Boulder County.. ??? Open Original Shared Link good luck and dont worry about your girlfriend and friends... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten Free?
cassP replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
thanku skylark- that's why im stressing- because i dont think my PCP is open to T3, nor open to getting my levels below 4.5 but i should think positive probably- thankyou for all of your advice- it will help me so much to create the right journey with my doctors -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Endoscopy?
cassP replied to fattycat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
with your symptoms, and your "mild gluten intolerance", and your mild damage in biopsy- i would assume you have Celiac or NonCeliac Gluten Intolerance- they're both BAD if you continue to eat gluten. it's up to you whether or not you need a diagnosis to motivate u to stay on the diet- and like above poster said- you have to be eating enough gluten before... -
stomach pain... and back problems.. have u considered that some of your pain might be muscular??? because i am having issues with this pretty bad. im a massage therapist and my body is WRECKED... back muscle spasms... illiopsoas spasms .. oblique spasms... sometimes when the back is spasming- it radiates into my ab muscles.. i actually went into a walk...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Worse After Going Gluten Free
cassP replied to Bugsly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
im sure its safe to go ahead and say that MOST of us have experienced this... in layperson terms- i THINK it's because the body has gotten healthy again and now the immune system is more vigilant and quick to identify the poison. but when you think about it- it kind of happens with other things too- alcohol, ciggarettes... after abstaining for so long... -
ARCHIVED Varying Types Of Reactions-- All From Gluten?
cassP replied to GFshay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes- symptoms vary GREATLY whether to gluten or during healing. ALSO- for me personally- it took me 2-3 weeks to feel significantly better. and in that first 2-3 weeks, i could have gluten like pain/symptoms from ANYTHING!!! including drinking water. that's just the way it is- untill your body is pretty much healed & normalized- you can almost feel... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten Free?
cassP replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
thanks for asking Skylark no, im not feeling better... somedays i feel worse im a little worried- because my PCP wants to treat me- but i want to see an Endocrinologist who will get me on the RIGHT meds & doses.. my mom has Hashimoto's and has been on Synthroid since 1992.. and she's never felt any improvement. they've never put her on anything... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten Free?
cassP replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
so WAIT- your TSH was 3.71, and your doc was progressive & openminded enough to know that that was too high??? now im pissed. in 2006- my TSH was 4.65 (but within THEIR range- with 5.00 being the upper limit number). in october this year- my TSH was 11.39 (this time their upper limit number is 4.5) im a little worried- i want to feel better... -
wondering if some of you that are experienced in this, could advise me-> i just got dx with Hypothyroid.. going for my 1st follow up in December. my question is: by then, i will have been 100% Gluten Free for almost 6 months- when i get a test for Hashimoto's antibodies- will it be inconclusive or false negative?? (because of being gluten free?...

ARCHIVED Almost Hoping I Have It...
cassP replied to Jenny Leigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
jenny- keep in mind that eliminating gluten may still be one of your major answers. even if you came back positive for Addison's or Hypoadrenals or adrenal fatigue- you could still have Celiac or Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance on top of that.. many of these conditions go together or cause eachother. ie: i have Celiac.. and just tested as Hypothyroid.... -
ARCHIVED School Project- What Should I Test For Wheat Contamination?
cassP replied to munchkinette's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
soy flour... maybe 1 regular brand, and 1 of Bob's Red Mill. i know they found A LOT in soy flour recently which makes me so SAD cause i used to use this for choco chip cookies and the taste was fantastic... ? -
ARCHIVED Are These Symptoms Gluten Sensitivity?
cassP replied to bellysbetter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yes, ive had all those symptoms and more. i got the "C" more than the "D". i think you're right on target- self diagnosing yourself as gluten intolerant & identifying gluten, corn, and dairy (which many of us also have issues with). i think those with ONLY an intolerance to gluten may be in the minority, and im very very very jealous of them ... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Diagnosis
cassP replied to LonelyWolf307's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
its unfortunate that u were told to go gluten free, and THEN later asked to do the endoscopy... That was a waste of your time and money. As far as the blood tests- false negatives do occur and many times they're hard to read and instead of really interpreting them- the docs just say "oh you're negative". If u want to retest- u need to be eating at least... -
ARCHIVED False Negative?
cassP replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Amen... i agree! i always do the same too.. my PCP & GI didnt look at all of my results nor understand them all.. i had to dissect them to get to a proper dx AND my freakin TSH was out of range 4 years ago, but noone alerted me, or called for a follow up. -
ARCHIVED Been Told I Just Have "gluten Intolerance"
cassP replied to Melstar23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
this statement he made doesnt make any sense... celiac & gluten intolerance doesnt work exactly the same in every case. you could be absorbing iron and still have celiac or gluten intolerance... yes- many celiacs stop absorbing nutrients, and losing weight, and become deficient in B12, D, or Iron... but that's hardly a way to dx a disease or not. OY... -
ARCHIVED False Negative?
cassP replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
yes, i agree! always get your own copies of results- they dont pay nearly enough attention to them- also, never assume when it comes to our health & doctors. also, my first take on your post- was that "maybe the doc didnt even test the other kids for celiac.. maybe he just tested for the Vit D deficiency" ??? -
i only have a small patch on my stomach... it flared up a few weeks after i went 100% gluten free. i continue to eat sea salt & seafood (iodine).. and have not been able to eliminate irritating foods like Dairy or Corn.. anyways, im starting my 5th month gluten free- and i also started applying this Silver ointment from whole foods- and the itch is...
