ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oatmeal - Taste
Hummingbird4 replied to jenkay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had some Bob's gluten-free oatmeal a couple of weeks ago, and it tasted fine to me. Must just be that particular package. -

ARCHIVED Tournament Dinner - What Should I Do?
Hummingbird4 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free for about 3 months now. In a couple of weeks, I will be playing in a tennis tournament at my health club. There is a "Champagne Ball" dinner on the last night of the tournament. I would really like to go (there is music and dancing afterward). I haven't seen any kind of menu posted, and I don't know who will be catering it. If you... -

ARCHIVED Lesson: Never Take Food From Strangers
Hummingbird4 replied to wsieving's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ugh, I'm sorry that happened. I don't think I would trust food handed out, either. Today a friend of my daughter's announced that she is going to make me some gluten-free cupcakes. Hmm. Not that I don't trust a 15 year-old girl to keep my food absolutely gluten-free, but... I don't. Hopefully she will forget and not follow through. -

				ARCHIVED Canidae Dog Food!
Hummingbird4 replied to Adelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dog eats Canidae. The bag we currently have is without gluten, but it will be running out soon. Any suggestions for a new high-quality dog food? He seems to like the lamb. BTW, he is a 5 year-old small dog. -
Yesterday, I decided to try restaurant gluten-free pizza for the first time. My husband is out of town, so it's just my daughter and I, and I didn't feel like cooking. I heard that Bellagios has gluten-free pizza, as of October 1st. Went to their website, where it says how they went about learning about gluten-free and making sure that their toppings and...

				ARCHIVED Oh No! The Dishwasher?
Hummingbird4 replied to Mrs. N's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use the same dishwasher that I used pre-Celiac, and I'm not getting glutened (that I know of). It washes with hot water and soap... surely it's getting the dishes clean enough. That said, I got rid of all of my nonstick pans (I don't wash them in the dishwasher anyway) and all of my cutting boards and wooden utensils. Actually, my rubber spatulas went... -

				ARCHIVED Hair Growth
Hummingbird4 replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It makes perfect sense, since your body is now absorbing nutrients better. Hooray! -

				ARCHIVED First Thanksgiving Gluten-free
Hummingbird4 replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
THANK YOU! Okay, I'm done having fun with fonts now. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I will bring my own little "turkey" (Cornish game hen) and bring along a couple of dishes to share (and will serve myself first). That way I will have yummy food to eat and not think twice about cross-contamination. You're the best! -
Well, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I'm trying to figure out how to deal with it. Usually my sister-in-law hosts Thanksgiving dinner, and I do Christmas. We'll deal with Christmas later.... Assuming Thanksgiving is NOT at our house, do you veterans have any suggestions on how to deal with the food/cross-contamination issue? Are most...

				ARCHIVED Going Off The Diet....
Hummingbird4 replied to kimis's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you want a really easy and delicious banana bread recipe, buy a bag of Pamela's baking mix and follow the banana bread recipe on the Pamela's website (listed under Quick Breads & Biscuits). I thought it tasted exactly like the "real thing," and it was super-easy to make. Open Original Shared Link Hang in there. -

I'm still here, still the same weight as last week. I haven't been sticking to low-carb very well, but I've been trying to eat healthy and am exercising. -

ARCHIVED Sharp, Stabbing Upper Abdominal Pain With Gluten Exposure?
Hummingbird4 replied to Caitlin9267's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It was this exact type of pain that caused me to go see a GI and get an endoscopy. The result was a diagnosis of Celiac Disease. So I'd say yes, they could absolutely be related. -
Sounds great - I will have to try it soon!

Hummingbird4 replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

				ARCHIVED gluten-free In Portland, Oregon
Hummingbird4 replied to GF avenger's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks, gluten-free Avenger! The pizza sounds wonderful - I'll have to go soon. I visited Lingonberries Market a couple of weeks ago. TONS of stuff. They seem to carry everything! It's about 30-40 minutes from my house, but worth the drive. I will be back. -

ARCHIVED I'm A Weird Celiac - Gained Weight?
Hummingbird4 replied to jparsick84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Veronica, welcome! I am also hypothyroid (for 11 years now), and am currently taking 100 mcg of Synthroid a day. But my doctor keeps refilling my Rx without testing me, so I haven't had any tests run in the past couple of years! I'm going to call today and see if I can get in this week for some updated lab-work. So, I've been pretty good this week... -

ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Hummingbird4 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good morning! Down half a pound this morning. Yesterday for breakfast I had a small omelet with mushrooms, a slice of ham, and fresh tomatoes. Morning snack was almonds. Lunch was cottage cheese and black cherries (Trader Joe's has the BEST frozen black cherries with nothing added - they are so sweet). Afternoon snack of carrots and hummus. Dinner was... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free One Year And Crazy
Hummingbird4 replied to Debbie-in-the-warp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Debbie, I'm in Portland, too. There is a support group that meets the 2nd Saturday of the month at Legacy Meridian Park hospital. I haven't attended a meeting yet, but am planning to go soon. Maybe meeting some other Celiacs might help you feel less alone. That's what I'm hoping for. I'm still new to all of this, and definitely still grieving. I... -

ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Hummingbird4 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good morning. I like the idea of weighing daily but only "counting" it one day a week. Since day 1 is a Monday, I'll post my Monday weight. 131 (I am 5'2") I said yesterday that I'd like to lose 20 lbs, but the reality is that I'd be happy with 10 and thrilled with 15. So we'll start with 10. For breakfast I'm having eggs, ham, and fruit... -

ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Hummingbird4 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello! I'd like to join your accountability thread. I have been gluten-free for almost 8 weeks now -- and starting tomorrow I'm going low-carb. I have been substituting too many gluten-free goodies in place of what I used to eat, and have been gaining weight on top of the weight I already needed to lose. I've done most of my whining/feeling sorry for... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Cannon Beach, Oregon?
Hummingbird4 posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We are going to Cannon Beach for the weekend. Our room has a kitchenette, but I would love to be able to eat out at a restaurant once or twice. Does anyone know of any restaurants nearby that serve gluten-free menus?
