  1. Thanks for the phone number, ravenwoodglass. I will use that in the future. I received an email reply today from Costco stating that the product is gluten free.
  2. I bought a case of these yesterday (milk chocolate flavor). There is "natural flavors" listed in the ingredients, otherwise it looks safe. I've emailed Costco but haven't received a reply. Does anyone here happen to know for sure if these are gluten-free? Thanks!
  3. My house is also gluten-free, and I will not allow gluteny food here. I do make an exception for beer for H, since it doesn't leave crumbs lying around So... for dinner parties or BBQs, I provide the majority of the food, and ask people to bring things like beverages, fruit, veggies, green salad, etc. So far so good!
  4. When I had mine I was really nervous, too. I remember them telling me they were putting the medicine into my IV now... and the next thing I heard was, "It's all over, and you did great!" I absolutely do not remember a thing from the procedure itself! I was sleepy and a little dizzy (but not nauseous) for the next several hours and even early the next day...
  5. I have one nearby - I'll definitely check it out tomorrow!
  6. A high IgE indicates an allergic reaction taking place in the body - not related to Celiac.
  7. For me, nothing. No reaction. I know for a fact I was glutened on vacation a couple of weeks ago (found out after the fact), and I had no reaction whatsoever. It seems odd that the wine would cause the belly bloat. Headache, I could see, but not the belly swelling up. Hmmm. Are you sure you didn't eat anything else that might have caused it?
  8. Sorry I haven't replied, I've been on vacation. Talk about difficult trying to eat when you're traveling. At least Disneyland is pretty good about gluten-free foods. I don't react when I accidentally get glutened, and I just hope I didn't get glutened too many times on this trip. I tried my hardest to be very very careful. Haven't heard anything more...
  9. Thanks for your replies! I forgot to mention, my FIL had multiple health issues, and he was mostly gluten-free for a couple of years, so my MIL understands how to cook and bake gluten-free. However, he did not have Celiac and did not have to be (and was not) careful about tiny amounts of gluten. They thought nothing of cross-contamination - it simply wasn...
  10. I love love love love love TJ's banana waffles! I put peanut butter on them. YUM. I choose to believe that their manufacturer follows protocol and cleans thoroughly in between batches. Hopefully, they actually do.
  11. Went to my mother-in-law's house last night for dinner. She had made chicken and vegetable soup, purposely leaving out any noodles so that I could eat it. I asked her what the broth was made from, and she said it was a canned broth, but she couldn't remember the brand, nor did she have the can or another can like it so that I could read the ingredients...
  12. I am not sensitive. My diagnosis came after having about 6 weeks of stomach pain out of the blue, and I thought it was an ulcer. While I was waiting for my scheduled endoscopy, I took an OTC acid-reducer for a few weeks and the pain was completely gone by the time I had the procedure. So I was quite surprised at my diagnosis. I've been completely gluten...
  13. caek-- Which Garlic Jim's do you go to? There is one not too far from me in Beaverton, but I have been hesitant to try it for fear of CC.
  14. Hello! It's been a while since I've posted here. Lately I've been losing weight the old-fashioned way, by counting calories. It works, imagine that! I'm limiting myself to 1200-1300 calories a day, writing EVERYTHING down, and exercising 3-4 days a week. I eat 3 small meals and 3 small snacks (ABS diet style). I've lost 5 pounds so far. I'm sure some...
  15. I was 42 at the time of diagnosis.
  16. The easiest (and most satisfying) lunch for me, is simply leftover dinner from the night before! Fix extra portions of dinner so you have something for lunch the next day.
  17. It's been almost 7 months for me. At this point, most days I'm OK with it, unless I'm hit in the face with a reminder that I can't eat like "normal" people do. Case in point: today I had a league tennis match. It was at our club, so we players provide the food. I brought something simple, some rice chips with a salsa dip. That and the fruit was the only...
  18. I am the only Celiac at our house, but we are a gluten-free household. I buy the groceries, I cook the meals, and I want my house to be safe for me. My husband and kids can eat whatever they want when they're not at home. It works for us!
  19. Count me in among the few who would love to go back to eating the way I used to. My personal opinion is that I would love it if there was a cure - or at least something I could take on the rare occasions that I feel the need to eat whatever I want. On a day-to-day basis, living gluten-free is fine. It's the social events that are hard for me. I'm not...
  20. The best suggestion I have is to keep some gluten-free food with you at all times. Keep some trail mix or a gluten-free energy bar in your bag or car in case you're away from home and feeling hungry. It's hard to keep your resolve when you're hungry and there's nothing around to eat but gluteny foods. Preparation is key.
  21. Hello! Anybody checking in? I've been doing the ABS diet quite religiously all week and have lost a whopping 1/2 pound. Oh well. I feel like I am eating really healthy, and don't feel like I am on a "diet," don't feel like I am missing out on food. So I'll stick with it for a while. Cheat meal is tomorrow night for Valentine's Day. At this point...
  22. I love them, and they make an awesome pie crust!
  23. That's terrific! Happy 17th anniversary. You were just a baby at diagnosis. How was it growing up with this food restriction? I love your attitude. I see you go to UPS - how do you like it? (my daughter and I will probably check it out next year) And, how are they accommodating your dietary needs?
  24. Rachelle -- the ABS diet sounds like a great plan. There is plenty of info online about it too, which is nice. It also looks to be very compatible with gluten-free. I made up some menus and a grocery list, and am going to try it starting Monday, my regular grocery shopping day. My cheat meal next week will be on Valentine's Day. We're going out for dinner...
