  1. You have been getting a lot of good feedback. I just wanted to second the vote for a gluten free kitchen. We tried to do a mixed kitchen for a year. It didn't work out very well and finally decided to go gluten free. Still, I hadn't gotten rid of all the trace sources, and the other day my 11 year old son grabbed the wrong chocolate sauce and got sick...
  2. I felt better right away. The next day. Then came the roller coaster ride. Getting more sensitive. Finding more and more sources of gluten. Finding out that saying gluten free on the label doesn't mean much. Finding out that just because some other celiacs can eat it just fine didn't mean that I could. As the months went by I found more and more thing...
  3. At this point the GI's agree that the only way to diagnose celiac is with a positive biopsy. No one can prevent you from not eating gluten though. It might be helpful to know a definite diagnosis. That way when you have problems with the diet you can be a bit more sure of yourself. There also might be other causes for your condition that you could miss...
  4. Hi, I am sorry that you are having these problems. I had the advantage with my son diagnosed at 10 because I was diagnosed at the same time. When he seemed to be having problems with a food I could try it and if it bothered me too, that was the culprit. Different celiacs have different tolerances for trace amounts of gluten. A lot of foods that we can...
  5. If they do the right blood tests you can tell if she is still reacting to gluten. If so you have to try harder to remove all gluten from her diet. Wellshire farms are not the only "gluten free" that isn't. I can't send away for expensive tests, so I test with my body and getting sick for a week or longer. Be really careful about anything that is processed...
  6. I haven't heard about any gluten digestive enzyme that actually works. They are trying to develop one, but anything that is on the market now is ineffective as far as I know, and I think I would have heard.
  7. Gluten free food is expensive, and a lot of it is horrible. I don't know how many dollars worth I threw away after one bite. If you eat fruits, vegetables, meats and rice it isn't expensive, but you do have to cook a lot. Some potato chips are O.K. as are some corn chips, pudding, cheese, ice cream. A lot of that gluten free food is cross contaminated...
  8. Have you thought of Buckwheat? I had problems with Bob's, but then I found a company called Birkettmills that has a completely gluten free facility producing buckwheat foods. You can google them. One of their products is Pocono's cream of buckwheat cereal which might be good for your child. Good luck to you. Having a sick child is the worst thing.
  9. Anxiety, depression, bad temper, arthritis, vision went from 20/40 to 20/20, sexual response. energy, physical strength, I didn't know how sick I was until I got better.
  10. The celiac specialist in my GI group says that 0.5 mg is enough to cause a reaction with sensitive people. That is a speck too small to see. Certainly a bite will do it.
  11. My son had that at around 2 years. Dermatologist said it was excema. Later at 10 years he was diagnosed with celiac after he started throwing up 10 times a day and missed 49 days of school during diagnosis and figuring out the diet. I think the dermatologist missed DH. You would do well to eliminate gluten now after diagnosis as in previous post rather...
  12. My son (11) and I both react badly to products processed in a facility that also processes wheat. I have learned to steer clear of these.
  13. I was in the Northridge earthquake. I had an emergency kit and I was glad of it. We were supposed to stay off the roads because all the stoplights were out. We weren't supposed to drink the water and the gas and electric was off. We cooked on a camp stove on the porch. There were people sleeping in tents with no food and water. After awhile they came...
  14. The term gluten intolerance was invented to apply to people who have celiac symptoms, yet test negative for celiac. The medical community just can't admit that their tests might not catch all celiacs. What about all the people who test negative, continue to get tests and eventually test positive? All along they have similar symptoms which is why they push...
  15. Does anyone have any experience with instant korean ginseng tea? The ingredients seem to be gluten free. Has anyone had any problems? Some have a lactose base, so problems could be from that if you are lactose intolerant. Thanks.
  16. Your millet bread may have been contaminated with gluten. Was it made in a bakery that also makes wheat products?
  17. I saw a talk by Dr. Fasano, the leader of the celiac group in Maryland. He said something like before the cause of celiac was found, 30% of celiacs died. That means that 70% of celiacs didn't die. Maybe if you aren't experiencing bad symptoms eating gluten, it wouldn't be so bad to go ahead and eat it. Of course, you are still taking that 30% chance.
  18. I am sorry you are experiencing this. It was somewhat the same for me with my husband. I read a book about dealing with diseases and found denial as one of the stages to acceptance. It helped me to think that he was in denial, not wanting to accept that I had a serious condition rather than the other less positive spins. It got better over time. Now...
  19. Almost got divorced. Don't know how we managed to stay together. I was such a psycho. Couldn't work because I was dumping a whole load in my pants twice a week or so requiring a shower and half hour or so clean up after each time. How would you deal with that at work? Doctors said it was IBS. Not happy about that. So happy to be better. Looking for...
  20. I had that problem in my first months of being gluten free. I would lie in bed thinking that I would be better off dead. I kept from killing myself by telling myself that it was just the gluten etc. It would last a week. After a year gluten free it hasn't happened for months. It is a combination of getting better at knowing what to eat and maybe not...
  21. I react to inhaled flour but very differently. It was maybe 3 months after going gluten free. I was throwing out the flour. I was very careful and not aware of breathing any. I wasn't sick until the next morning which is usual for me. Then I had GI symptoms, severe depression, fatigue, confusion, etc. which lasted 3 weeks. I think the flour was traveling...
  22. Totally safe would be fruits and vegies, but not citris, berries or tomatoes because they are hard on the stomach. Bananas and watermelon are easy on the stomach. Also unflavored yoghurt, eggs, and quinoa. Other foods bad for acid reflux which you should avoid until you heal more are soda, chocolate, fat, milk, cheese and ice cream. My son had to go off...
  23. I know what you mean about it was better before going gluten free. I also got more sensitive. It seemed I was doing worse gluten free than before. (Except for the pooping in my pants part.) It gets better over time. After a year and way too many cross contaminations, The celiac half of my family has convinced the non celiac half of my family to go gluten...
