  1. Why do you say that Mike posts only in here and doesn't participate in the rest of the board. I just did a search on him and found posts elsewhere. I feel for this guy.
  2. I need to do another post about the validity of these strips. I have nothing to do with the company, but I do have some credentials to back me up. I am a PhD chemist, former researcher with about 18 publications in peer reviewed journals, from my educational years. I worked for a testing place for awhile and have personally tested peanut butter for mold...
  3. Bananas and watermelon are easy on the stomach.
  4. I was disappointed to hear this. If I remember correctly, Mike said something about different tests with different sensitivity. What was the sensitivity of the test that you used supposed to be SHAYFL?
  5. I live in NY state where we have Wegmans. They mark their store brands as gluten free or not. So far not one of them has made me sick. Lots of other gluten free brands have. So most of the things we eat, you probably don't have access to. There are a few things though: Kinnikinnick donuts, made in Canada carried in our stores, but you can mail order...
  6. I am looking forward to seeing the list of negatives. I am one of those sensitive people. Reading the label does rule out obvious gluten sources, but many things make me sick that don't give me any indication of that from the label. I want to get a job now that I have finally figured out what is wrong with me and I should be able to work. I really can...
  7. I am sorry that you are having these problems. It is so difficult to have a sick child. It is wonderful that he is feeling better and growing again. I find that I react to many foods that state that they are gluten free. Labeling laws allow items to state that they are gluten free even when they contain some amount of gluten. If you eat enough of them...
  8. I can see legal issues involved with posting test results. How about compiling a list and sending it out by e-mail to those who request it? I know it would be a lot of work, but invaluable to those who can't afford to do the tests themselves. Surely personal communication between private individuals can't invoke a lawsuit. They would still be able to sell...
  9. Wonderful information. I am sensitive and have a hard time figuring out what I am reacting to, and wondering if it is just cross contamination from my daughter who seems to be getting a bit more sloppy. The vinegar info is very helpful. I was already getting suspicious of vinegar based on my reacitons. Mike, have you tested Franzia burgandy box wine?...
  10. I just looked at the ingredients. Maybe I could have a butterfingers after all. They are still in the pantry.
  11. My gluten reactions were also much worse after going gluten free after the first month or so. Also there were more symptoms all at once. So bad that I felt like killing myself several times. I never passed out though. Sorry you experienced that. Of course you are concerned. After about a year they are much better. I don't know if it is just because...
  12. A tiny bit of cross contamination takes about a week for me. My 10 year old ate a bunch of pizza etc. for a challenge for 3 days and was sick for 2 months. Sorry to be so pessimistic.
  13. My son's pediatrician told me about a big GI meeting last summer. They decided that the only way to diagnose celiac is through biopsy. Our support group's recent speaker, a GI celiac specialist, recently said the same thing. Apparently there are other reasons for elevated blood levels (gluten intolerance). It may be important in the future to have a clear...
  14. At first when I gave up gluten I got immediate relief from everything. Then as time went on I became more sensitive and had to eliminate more and more gluten sources. Believe me, there are tons that you haven't thought of yet. That took about 6 months. After about a year things are so much better and when I do get a reaction it is much more mild than...
  15. People baking in your house might do it. When I threw out the flour after I found out I was sick I was really careful, but still got sick for 3 weeks. Somehow I got some. You may be sensitive enough to need a gluten free household.
  16. My son (10) started throwing up, like 10 times a day, pretty much out of the blue. The doctor suggested GERD and celiac. I read about celiac and figured it was GERD and we tried all sorts of medications as well as an acid free diet. He could hardly eat anything. Much worse than the gluten free diet.. When I read about celiac I thought that's me, not...
  17. Prunes. Sunsweet don't seem to have any gluten in that I can eat them. 7 bite size a day.
  18. I take Bio K. It is a probiotic culture in the refridgerator in the health food section. Sometimes I can get someone to rub my belly.
  19. Kinnikinnick makes very good gluten free donuts. Glazed and cinnamon. I think gluten is addictive. You crave it because you got some and are going through withdrawal. That's what happens to me. I have been craving butterfingers like crazy because I got them for my daughter for Halloween as I do every year. This is the first year I couldn't have any...
  20. Canker sores and especially finger blisters are among the symptoms that went away when I stopped eating gluten and come back when I get glutened.
  21. The teeth thing could be damage to enamel from celiac disease and not just eating sugar and not brushing well. I have the same problem. Some teeth had to be filled as soon as they came in. I didn't even have time to damage them by diet and poor oral hygene.
  22. A GI celiac specialist gave a talk at our local chapter recently. He said that true sprue was very rare. Almost always people are getting small amounts of gluten accidentally. Since I am not all the way healed yet, I still react fairly quickly and can tell you that all sorts of things that are supposed to be gluten free seem to be cross contaminated with...
  23. My guess is that you aren't vomiting any more because you have eliminated most gluten from your diet, but aren't 100% because you are still getting small amounts. I have been at this 11 months now and still keep getting small amounts. Lots of things that are supposed to be gluten free still have small amounts which make me sick. At our local support group...
  24. How about a transglutaminase blood test? It could tell you if you getting gluten by accident. How about hay? Some "gluten free" food isn't actually all that gluten free and will make some people sick. Check if it was made in a facility that also processes wheat. Double check anything new. Try eliminating all processed foods and see if that helps. Good...
  25. My celiac son is 11 now and was diagnosed at 10. It helps that he was in on it all along. He was throwing up constantly, stopped when he stopped eating gluten. Started again when he ate it again and stopped again when he stopped eating it again. I think that made it easy for him to see the connection. He was super into food and loved eating at buffets...
