ARCHIVED Possibly Newly Diagnosed
LDJofDenver replied to xraymo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Should your tests send you down the gluten-free road, there are lots of resources. Many free. And most manufacturers are happy to send/email you a list of "safe" products they make (like Heinz, etc.). Gluten can be hidden in lots of ingredients, can even be in salsa, ketchup, or (believe it or not) ice cream. Read labels. You can buy mainstream... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know I've Succeded
LDJofDenver replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, you could still be tired, you've only been healing for two weeks. Depending on how long you've had it and how old you are, etc., could be 6 mos. to even a year to complete healing. I don't have a gluten free kitchen either (my husband is not celiac) but, aside from things that are "mine" (gluten-free) like cutting board, colander, even mixer, you... -
ARCHIVED Cross-contact
LDJofDenver replied to daviddius's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe if not produced on dedicated lines that they must say "processed on equipment that also processes wheat (or nuts, or whatever). Personally, if I see a product that says gluten free and on the back it says it is processed on shared equipment, I pass it by. Have a lot of healing to do and was over 50 when diagnosed so I'm being careful. ... -
ARCHIVED Ms Symptoms Or Celiac?
LDJofDenver replied to KimsHere's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A couple of years ago, before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, my doc sent me for tests and an MRI to rule out MS, since I was having a lot of neuro symptoms - numbness, pins and needles, brain fog, balance issues/ataxia, etc. Nothing turned up for MS (thankfully), and since I've been gluten free since last August all those neuro symptoms have disappeared... -
ARCHIVED Getting Tired, Depressed, And Frustrated
LDJofDenver replied to Korwyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have my days, too, though they are few now (mostly just when I get glutened). Looking back there were many spells that I don't know how I got through, don't know how I managed to go to work every day, etc. From roving pins and needles (peripheral neuropathy), migraines, exhaustion, shingles, brain fog, stomach and intestinal upset . . . the list goes... -

ARCHIVED No Doctor Help. What Should I Do?
LDJofDenver replied to Bethinjapan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi again, came across this (YouTube) and thought it would be of some help trying to go gluten free in Japan: That same person has a couple others as well, just search for "gluten-free Japan" in YouTube. -
ARCHIVED No Doctor Help. What Should I Do?
LDJofDenver replied to Bethinjapan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh my gosh, I feel for you! Your symptoms sound like mine, even down to the neuropathy. It's a tough decision as to whether or not to go gluten free now, then face a gluten challenge in order to get confirmed testing next year. But if you did it for a month and your whole world changed (for the better), you'd have your answer. There are places where... -

ARCHIVED How Careful Are You?
LDJofDenver replied to JustAGirl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know what you're saying. But my understanding is that, once you're all healed, the occasional accidental gluten encounter doesn't send you back to square one. However, I'm sure you know that even if you don't have a reaction, damage is still being done to the intestines. My house is not gluten free either, but we employ some safeguards (other than... -

Here's a link to a mainstream grocery shopping guide - they have a couple different ones, this one is Gluten-Casein-Soy Free. Open Original Shared Link I have the gluten-free one, don't know how I ever got along without it. For skin/hair products etc., you might search this forum for the word Neutrogena. ARCHIVED Question
LDJofDenver replied to CountryStar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My GI doc retested me at 6 months (blood work) and it showed the levels had come down, but still were not normal (they were high). I'm very careful (when in doubt I just don't eat it), but get glutened every once in a while either at a restaurant (where I ordered something "safe") or at someone's house (where they tried their best to prepare something... -
ARCHIVED Ezekiel Bread / Sprouted Bread
LDJofDenver replied to TiffLuvsBread's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even the Ezekial Bread website does not list that bread as gluten free. See for yourself: Open Original Shared Link Scroll down past the Ezekial bread, and you'll see Food for Life's section: Gluten Free (and that bread is not listed under that heading) -

Here's a link with enough info (about complications of untreated celiac disease) to help someone take this seriously - especially numbers 4 and 5. ARCHIVED Am I Supposed To Stop Living My Life?
LDJofDenver replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello Jason I've heard from many celiacs that they had less trouble eating gluten free in Europe than here in the U.S. Here is a link to an article on celiactravel that talks about visiting Brazil as a celiac. Open Original Shared Link And, I had a darling Aunt that had terrible arthritis all her adult life, yet she was always doing something... -
ARCHIVED Gf Make-up
LDJofDenver replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just wanted to post another gluten free makeup brand: Lancome. Their makeup (Absolu and Renergie) and several lipsticks (Color Design, Le Rouge Absolu, Le Lipstick, Le Crayon Contour) are gluten free. They are very helpful if you email them also. Many of their skin care products are NOT, however, gluten free. I love the Color Design lipsticks... -
ARCHIVED Neg Blood Tests, Now What?
LDJofDenver replied to balmerhon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One thing you can do is genetic testing. I'm always hearing that blood work on children often has a lot of false negatives (and all the while damage is being done). Genetic testing will at least show you if you can completely rule it out (or not). You can do these in-home. Here's a link to celiac.com article "Ten Facts About Celiac Disease Genetic... -
I forgot to mention...I have not been gluten free for quite a year yet, and I still have a tough time digesting nuts of any kind. I've kind of backed off on eating them for now, as a result.

You need to keep in mind that healing is a process, and you most likely are not all healed and back to normal in 6 months time (from all I've read, it would be highly unusual if you were). And have you scrutinized everything you ingest or use for hidden glutens - - like vitamins, lipstick, etc.? - - and other places where cross contamination may occur. ...
