  1. Yes! By gosh, I think the world is beginning to catch on! No doubt was a Celiac that thought of it.
  2. I was just at the endocrinologist last week and she said to break the dose apart (example, my calcium supplements, two per day equal a dose) and take one in the morning and one in the evening because the body can only absorb so much at a time.
  3. Hi everyone, I'm in Denver but just had a suggestion. If you can't find delivery, any of Beau Jo's gluten free pizza can be purchased as a take-and-bake, and you can put in your freezer.
  4. I would think any of those tools would simplify shopping. I have one of the paperback guides, it has been of immense help. Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guides Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  5. Might be less expensive to just get one of those grocery shopping guides. They usually run around $25. And they post updates if a formula changes and is no longer gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  6. Thanks for the link. The more information out there, the better. Definitely come a long way since my son was diagnosed about 11 years ago.
  7. Hi, while there could certainly be more than these two, I found these on the Gluten Intolerant Group's website: Open Original Shared Link
  8. For all the bad experiences most of us have had, it's really nice to hear about the good ones! Our local Outback is fabulous, too. And several restaurants that are not chains now have small gluten free menus. Things are improving.
  9. Here is a link to Gluten Intolerant Group of North America's page with 4 restaurants in Asheville. Open Original Shared Link You might contact Dollywood in advance and see what accommodations they can make for gluten-free diet.
  10. I agree with the foil, it's an easy layer of protection. I think you might need oven cleaner to really take all the junk off a grill. But, as long as the gril isn't teflon coated (or anything else porous) I'll bet you could get it good and clean with the oven cleaner. We've never put buns or bread items on ours, so I was lucky there, after diagnosis...
  11. Do you have an Outback Steakhouse nearby? They have a gluten free menu. Often, local restaurants will have gluten free options. Try going a little early, and on an off night so you can discuss preparation, sauce ingredients, etc.
  12. Maybe this will help you find one. Here is a link to local (TN) celiac chapters, and their contact information. Our Denver Chapter lists physicians, dieticians, etc. Open Original Shared Link
  13. Hello xphile! First wanted to give you this link to the Denver Celiac Chapter (CSA chapter 17). Open Original Shared Link Aside from great info, past newsletters, etc., you may find an upcoming meeting where you could meet dozens of celiacs one-to-one. 1. How long did it take for you to realize you had the disease? How were you diagnosed? Probably...
  14. I agree with tarnalberry, it's really not all that hard. The hardest thing is that gluten can be in things you'd just never suspect, like soy sauce, spices, licorice, ice cream. That and eating out. It's a little bit of a learning curve at first, but within a couple months you'll have it down. A couple months after my diagnosis I found these...
  15. Darkhorse, they are also at the King Soopers at Colorado Blvd & Yale (in an open freezer unit, on an end, near the meat), and at the Vitamin Cottage on Buchtel & Colorado Blvd (also frozen). I love the whole grain one. Closest thing to "real" bread I've found. Good texture, flavor, weight. I'm heading back east for 10 days vacation and just mailed...
  16. Welcome to healing! There's a lot of support here, and we're all in the same shoes. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but before you know it, you'll have it down. If you don
  17. I've noticed an increase in this as well. This is good! To further encourage the companies, every time I see it clearly marked on a label I email the manufacturer to thank them for doing this. And when I find a company has bothered to put together a gluten free product listing on their website, I email or call them to express gratitude, and tell them...
  18. A few other handy things that you may not have thought of. If you don't live alone, you
  19. I hope you find both relief and answers. Your symptoms sound all too familiar! People can have negative blood work and still have celiac disease. It
  20. Yes, there's not very much you CAN eat in preparation. Broth/bouillion, jello (certain colors only) and clear juices and teas. That's about it.
  21. Hmmm. Not a medical professional but that looks like more normal blood tests (complete blood count, etc.). Don't see the usual celiac-related things: IgA, IgG, etc. Here is some info from University of Chicago's Celiac Disease Center where they discuss the different tests and what they mean: Open Original Shared Link Hope that helps.
  22. Me, too (more sensitive now than before diagnosis). God help me if I get accidentally glutened at a restaurant or at someone's house. It is swift and fierce (and painful), with added bloating, swollen, lingering things that take days to normalize. I saw the GI doc about 7 months after diagnosed by blood work and when she said she wanted to do an endoscopy...
  23. I don't know where you live, but in Denver there's Deby's Gluten Free Bakery - she makes the absolute closest-to-real biscuits I've had since diagnosis. And our Whole Foods Grocers gluten free bakery makes some pretty good cheese biscuits (kept in their frozen section). You might check around for local gluten free bakeries and see what you can find...
  24. Yes, indeed. More than I realized. I was skinny as a kid, but at diagnosis (in my 50s) a good 25 lbs overweight.
  25. Hi Daisy. Doesn't sound like it's in your head, sounds like it's in your stomach (gut)! I think over the years I, indeed, thought most of my symptoms were just my "norm." And "our family has always had touchy guts." Duh! That's probably because half of them (or more) no doubt have celiac disease. My son (diagnosed as an adult) and I, and I'm certain...
