ARCHIVED How Much Weight Did You Lose?
Treen Bean replied to 1morething's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was down from 105 to 79 lbs! I looked like death! Now, two years later, I am back up to 105-107. Hagen-Daz ice cream and baking my own gluten free goodies is what helped me gain my weight back. Don't worry, it will happen. I'm not saying you won't break down in tears some days because it feels like it is taking forever. But, it WILL happen. -

If you can't get her a designated toaster, you could buy her Toast-A-Bags. They are reusable bags you can use in any toaster to prevent cross-contamination. I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. I can even put a whole sandwich in one and use the toaster to make a panini. It melts the cheese and toasts the bread perfectly! The bags are easy to clean and, like I said earlier... -
Cap'n Crunch Gluten Free?
Treen Bean replied to KristenPK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are Fruity and Coco Pebbles still gluten free? I thought I read somewhere that they weren't any more. I can't remember where I read it though. -
You could also ask for you burger to be prepared in a clean frying pan/skillet instead of the grill. That would really help safe guard you against CC.

ARCHIVED Bloody Stools
Treen Bean replied to Treen Bean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Um... I might be a little constipated. But I never really poop that much to begin with. It's not like I haven't gone at all in a week. That is my definition of constipated. -
Can she handle oats. You could try mixing brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins in gluten free oatmeal. I like Cream Hill Estate's certified gluten free rolled oats. I make them in the microwave with water and they are fantastic.

ARCHIVED Bloody Stools
Treen Bean posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Two weeks ago, I think I was cross contaminated. Ever since, every time I poop there is blood either in my stool or when I wipe myself. It's not "black" blood, so I've been told not to worry about it. Still, it just doesn't seem right to me. It's just disconcerting to see blood every time I poop. I'm sorry if this is totally TMI (to much information), but... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated By My Sisters
Treen Bean replied to Treen Bean's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all of your words and advice. As of now, neither of my sisters have listened to me. I am going to continue loving them and being patient. My one passive aggressive form of action, is baking/cooking them delicious gluten free treats/meals. They both LOVE my cooking and beg me to cook for them. In fact, my older sister requested my gluten free Frosted... -

I have a recommendation for gluten free dairy free breads, etc.... Kinnikinnick makes very good bread, bagels, muffins, cookies,... the list goes on. Just go to www.kinnikinnick.com. The best part is they charge a flat shipping fee, no matter how much you order! I would order TONS of things and just stick them in the freezer. Now, when I am at home, I just... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Won Basket Of Food!
Treen Bean replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think I would cry tears of joy if someone sent me a basket of gluten free foods! I live in hotels for 8 months out of the year. Packets of tuna get old VERY quickly. sigh... I miss my homemade bread and muffins! -
Almost everything at Chipotle is also safe. Just stay away from the tortillas and chips and ask them to change their gloves before making your salad or burrito bowl. There is a restaurant called CDB's Southside Italian Restaurant. The owners niece, I believe, has Celiac. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They do not carry gluten-free pasta, but...

ARCHIVED Frustrated By My Sisters
Treen Bean posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have been gluten free for 2 years. Before I got sick, my older sister became ill with severe Celiac-like symptoms. She went on a gluten free diet, gained the weight back, stopped having symptoms, and basically returned to normal. She then began incorporating gluten back into her diet. Now, she just eats low gluten. When she starts having symptoms again... -
It took me 1 year before I could handle any dairy, and two years before I was able to gain back the weight I lost. I completely understand the "sick of being sick" feeling. It will go away. I promise.

Even thought there are gluten free noodles, etc... readily available. There are naturally gluten free products that can easily be substituted. ie: Use a roll of prepared polenta in place of lasagna noodles. Simply cut it in 1/4 inch slices and layer like noodles. Good gluten free brands include: Tinkyada Pasta Joy; Kinnikinnick; Pamela's baking mixes; Chebe... -

Skittles are gluten free. I took my little sister to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua the other day and bought her Skittles at the snack stand. She was so excited when she read the back of the bag and they said gluten free. She was THRILLED to be able to share her treat with me. (She's only 7.. quite a bit younger than myself) Also, all M&M's except the...

I recommend the Chebe brand pizza crust mix. It is super easy and delicious. Kinnikinnick also makes good premade, frozen pizza crusts. -
I travel for a living so it's hard to get into a consistent work-out routine. My hotels don't always have gyms. I love pilates and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good pilates DVD. I figure if I can find a good DVD, I can just plug it into my laptop and workout in my hotel room. Most hotel gyms have treadmills for cardio, or I can just...

I officially have the best husband ever! Since this month is National Celiac Awareness Month, I issued a challenge to my family and friends in order to raise awareness. I challenged them to go gluten free for the month of October (or for as long as they could last). My husband is working in NYC right now and I am in FL so he does not have to eat gluten free...
