				ARCHIVED Cutting Out Dairy
Mother of Jibril replied to LandonL's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The reason people recommend cutting out dairy is because lactase (the enzyme needed to digest lactose, the sugar in cow's milk dairy products) is produced at the tips of your villi. If your tips are damaged due to celiac disease, then you're better off avoiding dairy for a while. This includes things like yogurt, milk, cheese, sour cream, ice cream, etc... -

ARCHIVED Testing For Other Autoimmune Disorders
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, I did use Enterolab. I wish I knew my HLA-DR genes too... those are also involved in autoimmune disorders. There are labs that can run that test, but a doctor has to order it. The Wikipedia HLA-DQ page is a good place to start learning: Open Original Shared Link You can also google specific genes like *0301 (the main DQ7 beta). It's amazing... -

				ARCHIVED My Dr's Appointment Today..hhmmm...
Mother of Jibril replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Endomysial antibodies are recorded as either "positive" or "negative," you don't get a quantitative score. My understanding is that EMA is very specific for celiac disease... the most specific out of all the tests. -

ARCHIVED Testing For Other Autoimmune Disorders
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Me too! I should have seen one a long time ago... I've been having abdominal pain for more than a year. At first I thought it was afterpains (from giving birth), then cramps from the IUD, then gluten intolerance (the gluten-free diet made a HUGE difference), then corn intolerance... but there's still something going on and it's definitely time to figure... -

				ARCHIVED Difficulty Getting Dx
Mother of Jibril replied to dreamboat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The hives and itchy skin could be chronic urticaria (CU). Unfortunately, there are lots of things that could cause the symptoms you're having... infections, autoimmune disorders, mast cell disorders... it takes time to narrow down the possibilities. I know what that black hole is like For more than a year I've been trying to figure out why I have chronic... -

ARCHIVED Testing For Other Autoimmune Disorders
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry to hear that mslee I hope you find a little relief very soon. After seeing an allergist, ENT, a gynecologist, endocrinologist, a rheumatologist, and having surgery to remove a swollen lymph node (which turned out to be perfectly normal) I've ruled out a LOT of things... I don't have lupus, Sjogren's, RA, psoriasis, or any other connective tissue... -

				ARCHIVED Severe Allergies
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hmmm... I'm 33 years old I skin-tested positive (at a certified allergist's office) to peanuts, almonds, celery, dust mites, and four kinds of mold/fungus. From what I've read, this is more reliable than a blood test (at least for IgE... there's no other way to check for IgA/IgG allergies). My gynecologist said everything looks perfect. I had a swollen... -

ARCHIVED Do You Ever Question - "what If It's Only An Allergy?"
Mother of Jibril replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine are... I used an epipen a couple of days ago when I had another attack. My allergist's opinion is that I probably won't go into anaphylactic shock because (at least so far) I've been able to breathe during these episodes. I'm not so convinced. I carry my epipens EVERYWHERE. -
Avocados are high in calories (healthy fats). Full-fat coconut milk has more than 800 calories per can. I like to blend it with frozen fruit for a smoothie I've lost more than 30 pounds over the last six months, but it's finally stabilizing. Thank goodness! My BMI is 21. By the way... have you considered other health conditions (diabetes, hyperthyroidism...

ARCHIVED I Ordered My Hla Test Last Night!
Mother of Jibril replied to caek-is-a-lie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's awesome!! I know how good it feels to have some answers So... you have one copy of DQ2 (the major one connected with celiac disease) and one copy of DQ7. I have a mixed HLA-DQ genotype too (DQ7, DQ8) and I suspect that's why my allergies are so bad. It's easy to develop allergies when your intestines are damaged by celiac disease... but I... -

Mother of Jibril replied to Lisa79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you ever had your thyroid levels checked? ARCHIVED Antigliadin Iga
Mother of Jibril posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I stopped eating gluten in August 2008... WOW. What a huge improvement. Unfortunately, my allergist didn't tell me to get a celiac panel before I stopped eating gluten. By the time I realized that I should be tested I have already been off gluten for six weeks and the panel came back negative. EMA negative TtG IgA <1 (normal is <3) Total... -

ARCHIVED Terra Chips, And What To Do About Symptoms?
Mother of Jibril replied to krystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to avoid the original flavor Terra chips and all of the flavored chips because of the umbelliferous vegetables/herbs (parsnips, celery, dill, parsley), but I can handle the plain sweet potato, sweet potato and beets, "red, stripes, & blues" and the plain blue potato chips. There are VERY few processed foods that my digestive system can tolerate... -

ARCHIVED Do You Ever Question - "what If It's Only An Allergy?"
Mother of Jibril replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wonder too... and I have multiple allergies confirmed with skin testing. Corn gives me the same kind of abdominal pain as gluten I get horrible abdominal pain when I have an anaphylactic attack (along with diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, hives, etc...), but I'm still trying to figure out if allergies can cause chronic abdominal pain. The literature is... -

ARCHIVED Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria And Angioedema
Mother of Jibril replied to thleensd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My rings are getting so loose that I had to put some yarn around them... I would LOVE it if I lost a shoe size too. It's not easy to buy shoes when you wear size 11 I'll have to go visit a shoe store and check that out! -

ARCHIVED Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria And Angioedema
Mother of Jibril replied to thleensd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also have dermagraphism I'm not sure about the connection to celiac disease, but I have read that there's a strong connection to Hashimoto's (autoimmune hypothyroidism). I have a bunch of allergies (both food and environmental), but I do wonder if there's an autoimmune component to my problems... I'm waiting for the results on a bunch of blood tests... -

				ARCHIVED Breastfeeding
Mother of Jibril replied to 2005mom2008's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Interesting! My sister's son also weaned around the same age. One more thing to add to the list of reasons why I suspect he has a problem with gluten. -

				ARCHIVED Extremely Itchy "hives"
Mother of Jibril replied to klp28's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Welcome! It could be chronic urticaria, which can be triggered by pain relievers, food allergies, environmental allergies, chemicals, exercise, pressure, cold/heat, or even your own body (autoimmune urticaria). Here's a very helpful resource: Open Original Shared Link BTW... "chronic" is defined as occuring longer than six weeks. -

				ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge In Progress
Mother of Jibril replied to Cardiff Coeliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, it's possible to develop new allergies at any age! Two years ago, I just had one drug allergy (tetracycline). Then, during a routine eye exam the doctor noticed little bumps on the inside of my lower eyelids... a sign of environmental allergies. I was surprised, because I hadn't noticed any problems! In January I went back to... -

				ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge In Progress
Mother of Jibril replied to Cardiff Coeliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In the US there are eight foods considered to be "major allergens." The EU recognizes twelve: gluten, fish, crustaceans, eggs, peanuts, soy, milk and dairy products, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame seed, and sulphites. I guess you could avoid all of those... but I'll warn you that it's a MAJOR challenge. You could also get tested for pollen and other environmental... -

				ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge In Progress
Mother of Jibril replied to Cardiff Coeliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started having problems with allergies about two months after I went on the gluten-free diet... and I'm really, REALLY strict about keeping gluten out of my food. I have read that people with celiac disease can develop allergies due to intestinal damage, but it's possible that your problem is not connected to the gluten challenge. You might want to see... -

ARCHIVED Are My New (strange) Symptoms Related To Celiac?
Mother of Jibril replied to JennyLynn85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the group There are sooooo many things that can cause missed periods. It might be connected to celiac, but chances are good that it's not. It's really something to ask a gynecologist about.
