ARCHIVED My History And Symptoms, Lots Of Questions, Few Answers
rosetapper23 replied to sd 453's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is just my personal opinion--drop the doctors and continue to eat gluten free (and dairy free if it helps you). It appears that you may have identified the principal culprit that is causing your symptoms. It doesn't matter if your condition has a name or not--you know now that you can't tolerate gluten. The doctors will continue to do tests and give... -
ARCHIVED Dh - Timeframe Between Ingesting Gluten And Dh Lesions Appear
rosetapper23 replied to jammom123's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This question has been asked many times before, and the time from gluten exposure to DH symptoms seems to vary. Personally, I broke out within 30 minutes during the first three years after I went gluten free, but nowadays it can take a few hours or even overnight. I do know that the longer I go gluten free, the longer it takes to break out when I'm accidentally... -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Was Allergic To Sulphates In Shampoo...but
rosetapper23 replied to Noche22's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I agree that your symptoms are consistent with DH. However, you might also be suffering from a zinc deficiency, so you might ask your doctor to test you for that (zinc deficiency can cause flaking of the scalp). If you are indeed deficient in zinc, be sure to buy the amino acid chelated form. -
ARCHIVED Eating Out In The Southwest.

I hope you do have an amazing time at Yosemite and the other sights you're planning to see. I think your trip is well planned--you'll have a great time!! I visited Italy about ten years ago before I knew I had celiac disease, but if I ever return (and I hope I do!), I'll contact you about safe places to visit. Thanks! -
Try removing all iodine from your daughter's diet--with DH, many of us need to do that. It takes BOTH gluten and iodine to cause DH is many cases (if not all), so eventually you can add the iodine back in. However, for me, I still break out in an odd rash that is chronic on my back from my thyroid medication, which contains iodine. Although this chronic...

This topic has come up before (pain under the left ribs), and many of us have had it. I had it for three years before I found out I had celiac disease--and it worsened as the symptoms worsened. It took about two years to go away after I went gluten free (and I'm strictly gluten free--no fooling around there!). A doctor once told me that the small intestine...

ARCHIVED Eating Out In The Southwest.
rosetapper23 replied to elis-euphoria's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I live near San Francisco and have traveled through all of those areas in the past. You'll find varying degrees of understanding and knowledge with regard to celiac, depending on where you are. In the larger cities, like San Francisco and L.A., you'll have no trouble finding supermarkets and restaurants that have gluten-free food. Specialty stores like... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed Teen Who's Mom Needs Help With Vitamins
rosetapper23 replied to Marlie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Normally, a doctor would run a panel right away to see what nutritional deficiencies your daughter might have. I don't know why there would be any reluctance on the doctor's part in this regard. Since you're receiving no help from the doctor, here is a list of symptoms that can be exhibited based on various nutritional deficiencies--your daughter's symptoms... -
ARCHIVED My 13Yr Old Daughter
rosetapper23 replied to lhopland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just wanted to add that you are doing the right thing in feeding her only natural foods. In the beginning (and I'm talking at least six months), it's safer to eat only natural foods because even gluten-free processed foods can cause difficulties for some people. When I say "natural," though, I'm not saying that she has to eat everything plain--you'll... -
ARCHIVED I've Been Gluten-Free For A Year, But Still Have Many "issues"
rosetapper23 replied to Cinnamongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree wholeheartedly with ALL of Skylark's recommendations. I know that a year seems like it would be enough time to resolve all of your issues, but I was diagnosed at 47, and it took a full 18 months before I felt halfway okay. Even so, I still had some major issues, but they resolved after a doctor recommended that I take a product containing L-Glutamine... -
ARCHIVED Incredible Disappearing Chin Hair? Hormonal Changes?
rosetapper23 replied to domesticactivist's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The article came out in one of the quarterly newsletters of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (www.gluten.net), and it would have been published between April 2006 and October 2006. -

Just want to mention that it's perfectly normal for hair to fall out several months after having a baby--it's very common. -

Yes, PCOS does also fit the symptoms--good luck! -
ARCHIVED Numbness And Tingling....docs Dont Know...help Again Please!
rosetapper23 replied to Holly4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is a URL that lists the symptoms of nutrient deficiencies: Open Original Shared Link You'll see that numbness of limbs (paresthesia is the technical name) can be caused by calcium and/or phosphorus deficiencies. Also, dizziness can occur from deficiencies in B-2 and/or manganese. You might wish to ask your doctor to check these nutrients. -
ARCHIVED Can Symptoms Get Dangerously Worse?
rosetapper23 replied to Holly4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Grrrr....I really don't like doctors sometimes. It sounds as though you may be experiencing damage to your villi. And, yes, it can get much worse. Why don't doctors "get" this?? Just from accidentally eating gluten a few years back, I lost the ability to absorb iron and had to receive it intravenously for two years afterward! Another accidental "glutening... -
ARCHIVED Incredible Disappearing Chin Hair? Hormonal Changes?
rosetapper23 replied to domesticactivist's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
From information I read about five years ago, women with celiac can have trouble absorbing female hormones if they eat gluten. That's one of the reasons we have trouble with infertility and miscarriages (which I had a strong history of). The article I read cautioned women with celiac who go gluten free to be vigilant about breast cancer because if a woman... -
ARCHIVED Need Help! ... It Seems Like Its Me Vs. My Doctor
rosetapper23 replied to celiaco's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is there a way that you can change doctors? You should NOT have to go through a worthless endoscopy to prove that you can't tolerate gluten. It's a shame that you've had to harm your health by adding gluten back into your diet. The fact that your children have growth issues is reason enough (in my book) to do further testing. Shame on their doctor!! ... -
ARCHIVED Had Enough
rosetapper23 replied to smile's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think your doctor may, in fact, be missing a thyroid problem. The symptoms you're describing are very much the ones that I experience when I take too much thyroid medication, making me hyperthyroid. Joint and muscle pain in all joints, along with fatigue, weightloss, and frequent bowel movements, are the presenting symptoms for me when this happens. ... -
ARCHIVED Very Mild Case?
rosetapper23 replied to domesticactivist's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I can only address symmetry. I think very few studies (if any) have been done on DH, so this assumption that it has to be symmetrical is not accurate. For my adult son and me, we both break out on our faces (jaw, chin, and down the sides of the neck). However, I also break out on the sole of my RIGHT foot and on my LEFT hand. My son, on the other hand... -
By cutting out BOTH gluten and iodine, my DH cleared up in about a week. Of course, it took about a year for the scars to fade away...but I had no new lesions after eliminating both gluten and iodine. I know that everyone heals at a different rate, though. However, if I ingest even the smallest particle of gluten, I get a few lesions immediately.

ARCHIVED Neurologist Wants Me Gluten Free As A "test"
rosetapper23 replied to Ellette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank goodness you have a great neurologist! At a conference I attended last June, I learned that celiac is now considered a neurological disease and that gluten acts like a neurotoxin on the brains of people with celiac. It can cause memory disorders, learning disorders, seizures, neuropathy, ADHD, depression, and even schizophrenia. Gluten reduces the... -
ARCHIVED Fed Up With Trying To Figure This Out!

ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Nutritional Deficiencies
rosetapper23 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As we each know, when we get glutened, we can sometimes end up with nutritional deficiencies caused by destruction of a part of our intestinal lining. Some of us have symptoms that have never resolved even on a gluten-free diet. In my search for information on the symptoms of nutritional deficiencies (so that I could perhaps find explanations for some symptoms... -
ARCHIVED How Many Family Members Have Celiac?

ARCHIVED What About The Toys?
rosetapper23 replied to domesticactivist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With regard to ALL shared toys, your son should just be careful not to put his fingers into his mouth and to wash his hands thoroughly after he's done playing with them.
