  1. Dairy can be problematic for for babies. I had to eliminate dairy with both my boys. They would scream for hours. I was not gluten free for either one. For my oldest son, dairy was the only thing I eliminated and after that he was as happy as a lark. I had to eliminate much more for my youngest, dairy, rice, oats and tree nuts.
  2. That is so great to hear. It really is nice to see results to help solidify that this is the right path. My 6 year old has been gluten free for one year now. He hadn't been back to the allergist since he he was diagnosed. According to their chart he has grown 4" since last Nov. He is 48"(4 ft) tall and weighs 52 lbs now. I knew he was having a major...
  3. I didn't give milk up at first either. I did go dairy free for a bit thinking it was causing me an issue and it turned out not to be the case. I eat all the dairy I want without problems. I still limit drinking milk because I just got out of the habit when I eliminated it for a time. I eat cheese, yogurt, icecream, cottage cheese, sour cream etc. without...
  4. It might be worth it to see the ENT for allergy testing. I think most likely they will do allergy skin testing. Our local ENT office does this. Often times people with allergies have sinus issues. That was the case with my oldest son. He has year round allergies to dust mites, cockroaches and mold. He also has allergies to a few weeds and tree pollens...
  5. Yeah it is at least worth it to get him blood tested. Just be aware the false negative rate in children is greater than adults. Looking back I believe my youngest son was celiac from a baby. I didn't know about gluten at the time. I started having issues when he was 14 months old. I was inadvertantly gluten light/low carb when I was breastfeeding him...
  6. Yep get that second opinion if you need to. Get all copies of blood work and pathology reports. I don't see any reason to keep her on gluten for the second opinion. She's had the blood test and scope. You can take everthing and the results you notice after she is gluten free and see what another says. IMHO, she is celiac and needs to go gluten free.
  7. That really sucks. Definately find a new one. I was fortunate that the GI I took my oldest son to was very open minded. I disagreed on a few minor points but nothing serious. She was willing to scope my VERY negative child (blood tested 3-4 times prior to visit over the past three years and overwhelmingly negative) based on his stomach complaints and...
  8. Your welcome. The Pocono cream of buckwheat is my oatmeal replacement. I am very intolerent to all oats even gluten free oats and cross contamination from them. I truely believe I have Avenin-sensitive enteropathy. Avenin is the protein in oats. I was strictly gluten free for a year when I started having problems. I had a repeat EGD that showed I had...
  9. I percieved it as a a sudden onset. I started having issues when my youngest son was 14 months old(he is almost 7 now). I had eliminated so many things because of foods issues with him while breastfeeding. A few months before my first "episode" I had went back to a regular diet. I was having bad tachycardic episodes and on two occasions I was in the ED...
  10. It didn't prevent me or my youngest son either from developing celiac. For my youngest we introduced cereals early at the pediatricians recommendation because of his bad reflux. Ironically I fed my youngest barley cereal because the rice and oat cereal made him break out in a rash on his head. No rash with the barley. He was breast fed until 16 months...
  11. This sounds interesting. If I decide to try it I will get my boys to help me experiment!
  12. I guess in some way I knew what gluten was in relation to bread baking, but never gave it any more thought than that. Until I started searching for answers to my health issues 5 1/2 years ago, I was clueless too. I had only heard of celiac disease once(I'm even an allied health professional). It was when my oldest son was around two years old and having...
  13. That's good to hear. I hope you feel better soon!
  14. Who says you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast? My kids get sick of the same ol things, so as long as it is something decent, I will let them eat whatever. Sometimes it's traditional breakfast foods, leftovers from supper or something we made up. Just the other morning my 6 year old wanted a sandwich wrap. The wrap was a crepe and he had lettuce...
  15. My pathology report didn't report Marsh scale either. But by the description, crypt hyperplasia and villous atrophy, etc. I definately had celiac. I'm guessing it would have been a higher number on the marsh scale. Luckily I had normal villi after 1 1/2 years later, but they found an ulcer..All is well and dandy now.
  16. I bought a new toaster, waffle iron, pasta strainer and cutting boards. I had a few pots/pans that were worn and scratched, so hubby gets them for gluten items. I kept all my stainless steel cookware and calphalon that was in good shape. I did keep my jelly roll pans as I was able to get them scrubbed and cleaned. I did replace all of my metal bakeware...
  17. That was my thought too.
  18. My pms was horrible before I went gluten free. My husband couldn't stand me. I would always have some mood swings, but it morphed into demon woman. Since gluten free I'm way better. I tend to get really irritable if I get glutened now.
  19. Yes low ferritin can cause symptoms. I just wish mine was at 40 right now. I had gotten it back up to around that level and felt decent, but its starting to drop again and I have been symptomatic. My serum iron is low too. I just started supplementing again so I'm hoping to get it back up.
  20. We only made it three days into the gluten challenge with my 6 year old. My husband is the one who said HE and my son couldn't endure three months of it. So based on the reactions he had in those three days my husband called it off and refuses to let him eat another bite ever.
  21. I just realized that my first three poll questions didn't register. I did it again and they are there now.
  22. I would say that your stomach issues are a result of not being complient with the diet. With every cheet you are causing damage. I would go back to eating 100% gluten free by sticking with the basics. Try not to eat to much processed items. Your stomach needs time to heal. If you are still having issues after eliminiting gluten for a time, you may want...
  23. I don't really know the answer to your question specifically, but celiac can cause issues with your teeth. My almost 7 year old son has tooth enamal problems with his two bottom permanent 6 year molars. They came in looking weird, parts normal color and parts that were tan colored. I was concerned and the dentist agreed that it was enamal defects probably...
  24. I don't have any experience with that brand either. I wouldn't even try the flour based on it being made on shared lines. I've become much more sensitive to this. I also am intolerant to gluten free oats. It causes me just as much pain and misery as wheat/barley/rye. I also have to ask about gluten free oat cross contamination because it will get me...
  25. It must be frustrating having your little one so miserable. I sure hope you figure it out and get some answers soon. Everyone deserves some relief especially your daughter.
