ARCHIVED Daughter Got Gluttened
Roda replied to Genna'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest son's appetite tends to become less when he is glutened. He gets constipated and has a belly ache. I try to make sure for him he gets enough fiber and stays well hydrated. I keep senna on hand to help if necessary. He likes me to rub his tummy or back when he does not feel well. He actually loves back rubs and foot massages anytime. Sometimes... -
My absolute favorite is to mix 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1-2 cloves of crushed garlic and salt and pepper to taste. It is really good after it has sat for a few days to marry the flavors. I have found that if you use a better quality balsamic you won't need to add sugar to the dressing.

I currently have 17-19 kids coming regardless of the lack of response from my youngest son's class. So if someone extra shows up, I'll be prepared. I think I'm mainly annoyed that people can't take a couple minutes to "RSVP" out of their schedules.

ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
Roda replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep my boys both had 5th disease too. The youngest one had hand foot and mouth disease also. My oldest boy had mono twice before he turned 5. We are lucky in the fact that we have not had measles, mumps or rubella. They both had their vaccines for that, so as far as I know they are immune. They had their varicella vaccine also. My oldest I know was... -
I did that the first year we had the party with my oldest son's class. No one called then either. I did not call the second year we had the party and the ones that didn't call didn't show up. The invites had to be handed to the teacher and she put them in their folders that go home with them at the end of the week. I know they got sent home since a couple...

ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
Roda replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are so right that doctors don't like to look for the zebra. I have been there with my youngest son when he was two. He has symptoms of strep throat and red swollen tonsils that were almost touching. He tested postivive on the rapid strep test and we were sent home on antibotics. He did not get better so he went on a different antibiotic. Half way... -

An elevated TSH indicates low functioning thyroid(hypo). A low TSH indicates a high functioning thyroid(hyper). Night sweats and elevated heart rate are associated with hyperthyroid. -
I'm hosting a halloween party for my kids. My youngest son sent out invitations to his entire class. I asked on the invitation for an RSVP so I could plan food and treat bags accordingly. Only 4 people out of his class have responded and the party is this Saturday. Do I assume that if someone does not RSVP that they are not planning on attending? I was...

Are you noticing any changes since you have eliminated gluten? When I first got tested for celiac I too only had the total IgA and the IgA tTG ran. I didn't know, and neither did my doctor(my endocrinologist) about "all" the tests. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on which way you look at it my tTG was positive. I had a scope a month later and...

ARCHIVED Feel So Belittled
Roda replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Me either. If I am cooking for guests in my house it is all gluten free period! (Hubby does still eat bread and cereal and will allow parents to eat bread if extremely careful). But as far as flour is concerned it was banned from the house three years ago! I made buckwheat waffles for everyone last week and my parents loved them. I also use the gluten... -
Make sure you have replaced any baking items/herbs/spices and condiments that may have been cross contaminated before you went gluten free. Have you replaced any scratched cookware/bakeware, wooden spoons, wooden cutting boards, toaster, pasta strainer? These are all hard/nearly impossible to clean out all the gluten residue that could harbour in them....

You mentioned you had the IgA tTG test. Did you have the others? A complete celiac panel includes: total IgA, IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase antibody), IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide) and EMA. If you didn't have all of those tests, I would request them before you do an elimination diet. Also did you have a scope during that testing? Might...

ARCHIVED Are There Celiacs That Don't Worry About Contaminated Kitchens?
Roda replied to carecare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel alright using my MIL caflon (non teflon) cookware as long as I wash it first. I take along my electric skillet and spatula and can cook so many things it that. A cutting board is a must for me to take alont also. I always take a bin with food ect in so I don't have to be stuck without something. When she makes food I'm in the kitchen with her.... -

Perhaps ask you ped to follow up on the TB and ask for a hematology consult. You are the best advocate for your little guy. You are doing the right thing by questioning and not giving up! -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Sleepovers?
Roda replied to smoky's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I send food and snack. I have told the parents not to feed them anything without asking me first. I will let them(if they understand CC) serve them cut up veggies, fruit and dairy. Otherwise they are to eat what they bring. I have sent snacks for them to share with everyone else too. -
ARCHIVED Help! Do I Have Celiac Disease?
Roda replied to plumlady83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes celiac could be a culprit. You need to keep eating gluten if you are going to get tested. First request the blood tests: total IgA, IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase), IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide), EMA. Depending on those results you can always have an upper scope(EGD) with duodenal biopsies(min. 8 and if different areas). Have you been... -
ARCHIVED Shocked! Don't Know What To Think?
Roda replied to lcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your at least gluten intolerent it sounds. Just because you don't have the two common associated genes that are seen with celiac, doesn't mean you don't have it either. -
We are having a halloween party on Oct. 22nd. My youngest son sent out invitations to his class. So I hope we have a good turn out. We will be decorated out for that and will leave it up till Halloween. We usually trick or treat on our road and the neighborhood behind us. We also love to give out candy. Daddy will probably eat the things the boys can...
