ARCHIVED Could This Be A Major Breakthrough?
Roda replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I may end up getting the genetic tests done for my youngest son. This would prove useful since we didn't have the biopsy. So far he meets three of the five critera. The oldest one meets none. -
ARCHIVED Update From Post Below Got Biopsy Reports From 2004
Roda replied to jenny2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I was told my small bowel looked pretty good visually, with a little inflammation. Biopsy was POSITIVE! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance
Roda replied to alexsami's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a positive biopsy and at that time I did not have fat malabsorption. My villi have healed and now if I get gluten I get it bad. So I don't think necessarily your villi have to be damaged to have steatorrhea. -
I'm still trying to figure out just how sensitive I am. I seem to be trending to more sensitive than average, but not super sensitive as some discribe. I do find their advice very helpful when I do seem to be having problems figuring out the cause of something bothering me. That said, I DO NOT tolerate BRM anything. I have been using Ener G products without...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Hashimotos Disease?
Roda replied to bpe's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yep there is a higher incidence of developing one if you have another. I had found an article in the Journal of Endocrinology that I took to my endocrinologist and that is how I got the tests ordered that led to my diagnosis. Basically the article stated that anyone with autoimmune thyroid problems, graves and hashimotos, should be screened for celiac... -
This Pie crust is FANTASTIC! This is the first gluten free pie crust I made and just last month! I was afraid of making one because I didn't want all that work and it turn out gross. So for the past three years I just didn't make any pies. I didn't have any white rice flour so I used brown rice flour with some buckwheat flour added in instead. ...

ARCHIVED Gluten Is Still Sneaking In On Me
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm going to guess CC from the factory. Hubby is really good when it comes to the food. Other than not eating them he and I have not done anything different. I'm hoping it isn't all the brands. My favorite is the On The Border and we like to crush them up, mix them with taco seasoning, coat chicken strips with them, and bake them in the oven with butter... -
ARCHIVED Please Take My Quiz
Roda replied to alexsami's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I answer A. You may not have had enough damage in the small bowel or they missed it in the sample. -
You don't need to eliminate lactose or dairy unless it bothers you. I had blunted villi on my scope three years ago and I never had any issues with lactose. I did eliminate it at one point to see if it was causing me issues and it was not. However during that time frame I got out of the habit of drinking milk and eating it on cereal. Now it is just a...

ARCHIVED Gluten Is Still Sneaking In On Me
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I may be onto something. I realized I had become quite obcessed with tortilla chips and salsa over the last few months. Not just a few here and there(which do not give me any trouble) but going through bags like they were going out of style. Since elimininating that, I have not had any issues. The brands I had been eating: Tostitos- gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Having Problems With Fat Absorbtion?
Roda replied to UKGail's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You still could be having problems with digestion. I get fat malabsorption anytime I am glutened. It also could be your body is still sensitive and needing to heal. Celiac can mess with your digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas. I took creon(a RX pancreatic enzyme) for awhile and ate a very simple diet. After about three months I didn't need it... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative....now What?
Roda replied to alexsami's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you have any relief on the diet for that month? At this point I would go gluten free strictly for at least 3 months. You can always later reintroduce gluten and see what your reactions are. Sometimes, O.K. a lot of the time, elimination is the best diagnostic tool you can have. My 10.5 year old has had repeated negative celiac blood work since I was... -
I originally was to take 5 mcg of T3 twice a day for that very reason. However, I was having a hard time remembering to take the second dose, so it wasn't being any benefit to me. That is why I started just taking both pills in the morning before breakfast with the T4. I work night shift on average 3 days one week and 4 the next. I have found that on...

I wouldn't let your roomates use your cookware, especially if they are cooking pasta in one of them and definately don't share the pasta strainer. Yes it can take time to heal so don't get discouraged yet. I suspect with three roommates you could be getting CC from them. Do you share any foods with them? If so condiments, peanut butter etc could be contaminated...

ARCHIVED Rash Is Back! How Can I Tell If There Is Gluten In It?
Roda replied to AmyinTX's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many or most meals we ate prior to me going gluten free, have been sucessfully made or modified to be gluten free now. Whenever we all eat together, all meals are gluten free. Of course now it is easier because three of the four in our house are gluten free now. Initially following my diagnosis I got rid of any baking items, spices/herbs that may have... -
Maybe give us an idea of what your are eating. You may also be getting CC'd without realizing it. Did you replace your toaster, pasta strainer, wooden utensils, scratched nonstick pans, and any baking items/herbs & spices and condiments that may have CC?

ARCHIVED Can Someone Give Me Information Regarding Rcd?
Roda replied to CNV2855's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was thinking the same thing. I'm one of those who can not tolerate BRM anything! Try eliminating BRM products and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Favorite Foods/snacks That You Can Still Eat?
Roda replied to maitrimama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I guess I'm not facing this since my kids are in 1st and 5th grade. They could care less that they bring their lunch while other's buy at school. There are a lot of kids in their classes that pack a lunch. I usually pack some pretty awesome lunches and the other kids wish they had it. Last year when my oldest son was still eating lunch at school, he would... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed - How To Cope?
Roda replied to spinal77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try contacting love2travel. She essentially was asymptomatic when she was diagnosed. She can probably give you some great advice. -
My endo will go by how I feel also. I never knew about T3 meds until she put me on them! I was there last month and told her of my worsening symptoms. She upped my T3 to 25 mcg from 10 mcg without seeing my labs. However about 1 1/2 weeks into the increase I started having tachy issues and palpatations. I called to have it lowered. I'm now going to...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For 4 Months, And Feeling Horrible Again...
Roda replied to gatheringroses's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really hope you are not sharing a toaster. This will gluten you. You will need two separate toasters and your's has to be one that has never had gluten in it. Hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED My Progress/fiber Question
Roda replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like the Pocono cream of buckwheat cereal since I can't tolerate gluten free oats at all. You could also try adding more roughage like spinich and romaine lettuce salads. Mandarin oranges, sweet potatoes, dates, figs and prunes are great sources as well. You could also add flax meal to your foods for more more fiber. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
Roda replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest son was five when his IgA tTg came back just one number over to be positive. I put him gluten free immediatly. After about a month my husband regretted not dong the scope/biopsy. I continued him gluten free for a total of 4 1/2 months and decided to do a gluten challenge. His lasted only three days since there was obvious reactions, and by... -
Prunes and mandarin oranges work for my boys.
