I went today to see if I needed any further work up. Based on my lack of symptoms, normal sed rate and normal ANA and something else, I was told not to worry right now. I was told that I was at increased risk so it warrented watching. I'm going back in Feb. for repeat blood work.

ARCHIVED Was I Misdiagnoised Maybe?
Roda replied to Debzo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's very possible you could have both since autoimmune diseases tend to occur together. I just found out that my RF was slightly elevated. I went to my pcp to see if I need to worry (I have no symptoms). I was told I was at increased risk and they want to recheck everything in Feb. As of right now I don't need to worry. I would request a full celiac... -
Thanks for the thoughts! Sometimes it's hard not to let that 5 year old imagination run wild sometimes. I am going today to my PCP to see if I need to have any further work up or not.

ARCHIVED For Those That Are Gluten Free Oat Intolerent
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did hear back from Betty Crocker to the question in my first post and I feel they failed to answer my original question. I sent them back an e-mail asking them to answer it. I certainly appreciate their products, and have used them a lot. Just wanting to cover all bases. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to give a quick update. I contacted King Arthur and I was told that there could be a chance of gluten free oat CC. Here is the thread I started on this topic.. -
ARCHIVED For Those That Are Gluten Free Oat Intolerent
Roda posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought this might be a useful thread for all of us on here that have a gluten free oat sensitivity. I avoid any gluten free oats and products that either does or may have cross contamination from them. Bob's Red Mill was the first product eliminated. Here are two recent responses I recieved from Ener G and King Arthur in response to this question:... -
ARCHIVED How Can Ya Manage School Lunch?
Roda replied to Gimpwithacause's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Cottage cheese and fruit, homemade lunchables with lunchmeat, cheese, pepperoni and gluten-free crackers, cheese sticks, pepperoni sticks, celery with peanutbutter, nuts, sandwiches with Udi's bread, wraps made out of crepes. I bought this lunch system so my kids could have a warm lunch. I've been sending them leftovers from supper or pretty much... -
Ugg.. I have this mental image stuck in my head from when I was 5. It was 1978 and my great uncle had rheumatiod arthritis (he was elderly then) and his hands were all deformed and he hardly could get around. For some reason the thought of it scares me. I read some articles that RF can be elevated because of other AI diseases. So here is hoping.

Bag Balm is great stuff. We always had it around when I was a kid at home. Used it on Molly (my milk cow) and ourselves.. -
I just found out that my RF is slightly elevated from my last labs done in June (I just got the results, another story ). I had a bunch of tests run back in Feb. by my PCP for other autoimmune issues and they were normal then. I'm unsure if a RF was done then. I thought is was peculiar that my endo asked me last week if I was seeing a rhuematologist. I had...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Playdoh
Roda replied to azmontessoriteacher's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've only tried the Soyer doh. It was really sticky. If it sat in the containers any length of time it started to crystalize. I ended up throwing it all away. My youngest son is bugging me for some more. If I ever get around to it I'm going to try the recipe from the Argo cornstarch site. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Lunch & Go Heated Thermal Lunch Tote
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The bundle package I got was two thermal totes with hot/cold pack, bag to carry both in and one extra hot/cold pack. So yes you pack one hot and one cold. Since I only bought one system, I had to try it out with both boys. They each took one tote for the warm food and I packed a different lunch box with their cold items. When I get a second one They won... -

I make this frequently and it is great. The recipe is for sugar free, but you can just replace the sugar sub with sugar. -
ARCHIVED Lunch & Go Heated Thermal Lunch Tote

Works great and the kids ask me if they are having a regular lunch or a warm lunch in it. I only ordered one to try first. Now I need to order another one. -
ARCHIVED 10 Yr. Old - New Diagnosis
Roda replied to azmontessoriteacher's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 10 1/2 year old boy has been negative on blood work now four times. He had a negative biopsy also. I kept having him blood tested because he just seemed to have signs that could be celiac. Despite all the negative tests we decided to trial him gluten free anyway. I have already seen some improvements. He is going to the bathroom regularlly, no belly... -
I freeze all the time too. For me it is related to thyroid and raynauds. Get your thyroid checked. It can be a symptom of thyroid disease. Raynaud's disease can also cause you to be cold, but usually affects the hands, feet, ears and nose. However I find if I keep my core body temp up it helps the raynauds symptoms.

ARCHIVED Already Seeing Improvements
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, we went to our follow up appointment. He has had a 2lb weight gain since around the end of July when we seen her last! I find that utterly amazing since he barely gains maybe 2-4lbs in a whole year. Actually he hasen't gained any at all this year till this. Usually for him when he does gain weight he also grows taller. I'm so hopeful! Is it possible... -

ARCHIVED Overwhelmed
Roda replied to butterfli523's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would request the rest of the celiac panel which incluces IgA and IgG tTG and maybe the newer DGP tests. It sounds like you have a very smart new pediatrician. If you are wanting a scope/biopsy then she needs to stay on gluten until that is done. It is your choice to do it or not. Or if you are alright with what you have then go gluten free. It sounds... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sam'sMom, I just e-mailed Ener G, King Arthur, and Betty Crocker. I will post back when I hear something. -
I think that is why I got a bad attitude about letting them sell stuff for school and the fact I hated it as a kid! My oldest son last year sold popcorn for cub scouts and he was really into it. My youngest son loved going with him and "supervising." He was the top seller in his group. Unfortunately he decided he didn't like cub scouts and he quit.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes I did contact them and they do run the gluten free oats on shared lines. I hope I remember this correctly: they said they have a clean down process between each product run with high powered air. Then they discard the first 20# of the product before packaging. Unfortunately this is still not enough for me. BRM is a great company and offer a lot for... -
I usually don't let the kids sell much for the fundraisers. The thing with our school is that in order to attend the end of the year Mega party for the full 2 hours they have to sell 10 items. Most of the stuff is junk or cookie dough and wrapping paper. I usually buy the wrapping paper and we hit up immediate family. They ended up last year only selling...
