  1. I never thought to challenge this. I have a similar prescription plan. I guess so far I've been lucky enough to find a generic that is gluten free. Of course this didn't come easy either. Took calling and going to several pharmacies.
  2. In hindsite I see things about my youngest that raise a red flag now that very well from a young age that may have been related to gluten affecting his immune system. Here are a list of things he had: -delayed separation of umbilical stump(was almost 3 months old) -very bad reflux to the point he would scream -sensitivity to rice and oatmeal baby...
  3. I do alright in a shared kitchen. That said, I am very strict about it. For the first two years post diagnosis I was the only one gluten free in the house. Since I did most of the cooking/baking I made all meals gluten free and refused to allow any baking with regular flour/baking mixes. Hubby and kids had a shelf in the pantry that was for gluten foods...
  4. I'd say there is a good chance you have celiac since you have a daughter diagnosed with it. If you are wanting a biopsy then stay on gluten until it is done. Even if it isn't celiac, you still could be gluten intolerent. Worth trying the diet with her after you have completed any more wanted testing.
  5. I think monitoring him is alright if he his not exhibiting any symptoms. Also depending on how old your child is it may be necessary to have him gluten free at home so he isn't cross contaminating you. I know it is harder the younger they are. I also agree with the pp that getting him screened (blood tested) periodically is a good idea. I had both...
  6. My kids pedi refused to test my boys after I was diagnosed. I was told that they were healthy and it was unnecessary. What a bunch of bunk! I'm not sure what the pediatricians thoughts or agenda were. Both of my kids were seeing a pediatric allergist/immunologist at the time also so I put in a phone call and an explaination and within several hours the...
  7. I have taken Zantac and been fine. Usually the best statement you will get from drug manufacturers is yes there are gluten ingredients in the drug or that there are no gluten containing ingredients in the product but they don't guarantee that somewhere (suppliers) that there isn't possible cross contamination.
  8. I have never had the genetic test done on any of us mostly because my insurance won't cover it. I have no desire to pay out of pocket for it. However, I am curious to what genes I do have. Although without it I'm firmly diagnosed, my youngest son for the most part is diagnosed and my oldest son is not diagnosed and has been negative on blood work several...
  9. Cinnamon sugar ones are my favorite. I tried the chocolate covered ones and wasn't impressed. The chocolate gave me indigestion.
  10. Mine is a nickname I got as a a 10 year old from softball.
  11. I don't know either. Technically speaking my youngest son doesn't have a diagnosis as of yet, going to get though(he had a positive tTg and resounding response to the diet and horrible 3 day gluten challenge), and his allergist wrote a note to the school of the need to be on the diet. The school took it very seriouslly and I have not had any issues. As...
  12. Ener G, kinnikinnick, Betty Crocker-gluten free, King Arthur-gluten free, Glutino. Mostly I eat lots of fresh meats, fruits and veggies.
  13. My oldest son who is 10.5 years old has had repeated blood work for celiac that is negative. He had a scope/biopsy last month that was negative also. Based on his past history and current issues of reccurent gas/bloating, abdominal pain, slow/stalled growth, and irregularity/constipation, we have decided to give gluten free a try for a good three months...
  14. I would not be baking with regular flour. It can become airborn for quite awhile and can then settle down onto an otherwise clean counter. You also could be inhaling it and swallowing it. As for the little ones I would say they are cross contaminating you. Even though you take precautions during prep they probably are touching other things around the...
  15. I would drop all Bobs Red Mill products. I am one who reacts to gluten free oats and I react to all BRM because of the gluten free oat contamination. Last Jan. I ate at a dedicated bakery that used BRM products. Ugg..I reacted terrible!
  16. I would concentrate on eating whole unprocessed foods and not eat at restaurants until you get this sorted out. I would also avoid eating things from the bakery. I ate at a bakery in Downtown Disney last Jan. that was strictly gluten free. I reacted horribly because they used gluten free flours/meals from Bob's Red Mill of which I can not tolerate. I...
  17. For almost 3 years it has been nobake cookies aka novaks. I can't have them because I react to certified gluten free oats. They used to be my all time favorite cookie.
  18. Some doctors will diagnose celiac on bloodwork alone. However if you do want to have the scope/biopsy you need to keep eating gluten until it is over. I would recommend you replace your toaster and pasta strainer or buy a separate one for gluten free if keeping a shared kitchen. Replace wooden cutting boards and wooden spoons. You won't be able to...
  19. My birthday is in January, my youngest was born in December and my oldest son was born in February(he is not diagnosed but doing a gluten free trial). My father and brother whom I believe have celiac also(won't get tested), birthdays respectively are November and July.
  20. This will be the first gluten free Halloween for both of my boys. I will probably let them pick out what is safe and exchange the rest out with stuff they can eat. The candy we hand out is always gluten free (so I can eat some when I am handing it out ) so no big deal for us. Anyway I'm sure dad won't mind eating what we cant! I'm also hosting my 3rd...
  21. We were discussing this at work the other day and sharing where or what we were doing on that day. I actually was up in NW PA visiting my parents when it all happened. I watched in horror on the TV. Then really was scared when that plane went down only several hours from where we were. We were not sure if we would have to detour around to get back south...
  22. This recipe is in my revised edition of this cookbook. I made the crust for a pumpkin pie and we loved it. I decided to make it into pop-tarts today. They turned out really good. I roll my dough between sheets of parchment and it seems to do better. I made cinnamon/sugar, strawberry and blackberry. I made a powdered surgar glaze to drizzle over. We...
  23. Heya,

I was reading in a recent post that you react to gluten-free oat contamination, yes? Would you have any suggestions for brands to avoid or brands that have been safe for you? Trying to find some for my daughter. :-)

  24. Yes hon, go gluten free you've got nothing to loose except maybe your debilitating symptoms.
  25. I was constipated before gluten free. For about the first year if I got glutened I would become constipated. Then my symptoms changed. I got chronic D and steatorrhea. I would not want to leave the house for fear of an accident. I later (8 months later ) realized I was reacting to gluten free oat contmination in gluten free products. Now if I get glutened...
