ARCHIVED Gluten Free Snacks?
Roda replied to ASandoval's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We had this issue last year. My son's teacher revised the acceptable snack list to be not only nut free but gluten free as well to accomidate my son better. Some ideas for you: rice and chex cereal, apples, carrot sticks, grapes, bananas, cheese sticks, yogurt, quaker large rice cakes(if no nut issues), Kinnikinnick makes animal crackers that are gluten... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unfortunately I am inclined to say yes to not use any of the Bob's products. After 8 months of miserey last year my GI wanted to put me on steroids. I refused. I did accept a script for creon and took it along with further eliminating stuff from my diet. I had been using BRM products since diagnosis and was fine for a year. I think it slowly built up... -
ARCHIVED Ouch...this Is A Major Pain In The A$$!
Roda replied to Unipeg05's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When we get red irritated bum we either use diaper rash ointment, or if it is really bad we use liquid antacid on the area. Our pediatrician told us to use the liquid antacid to help neutralized the ph from the acidic stool. It works great and I used it as a precaution during my colonoscopy prep. Happy to report no sore bum from that! -
ARCHIVED How Long Until They Feel Really Good?
Roda replied to Sam'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It took awhile for things to settle down with my youngest son. It can depend on how bad the damage was. My son only had a mildly elevated IgA tTG and we opted out of the biopsy. It was around the three month mark or so when we really noticed he wasn't complainging of belly aches anymore and some of his wierd ocd behavior had vanished along with the tempertantrums... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Scheduled
Roda replied to Duhlina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is how I put it to the doctor that did my oldest son's scope/biopsy. If she wasn't going to take the minimum of 6-8 samples we weren't going to bother with the exam at all! I told her this when she came in the room to talk to us before going back. His biopsy was completely normal, but we chose to do a trial of gluten free anyway. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What kind of gluten free products is he eating? If he is sensitive to oats you have to worry about the oat cc in gluten free products. They don't test for this. I had to call companies to find out if there were any gluten free oats used on shared equipment. I definately would avoid Bob's Red Mill products. They get me every time! -
ARCHIVED Positive Rheumatoid Test...
Roda replied to IngridBeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just found out that my RF is slightly elevated from my last labs done in June (I just got the results, another story ). I had a bunch of tests run back in Feb. by my PCP for other autoimmune issues and they were normal then. I'm unsure if a RF was done then. I do have a few aches and pains but I can easily explain them away from "sleeping wrong". ... -
ARCHIVED Dont Eat At Downtown Disney!
Roda replied to glutenisevil's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If you can not tolerate Bobs Red Mill products don't eat at BabyCakes in Downtown Disney. It is a gluten free bakery but they use BRM flours/meals. I have to say there stuff was good though, but the after effects wern't. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kid And Still Stomach Pain
Roda replied to GFmom144's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Does she eat gluten free oats? Around 10% of celiacs have a problem with gluten free oats also. I am one who does. I also had to eliminate any gluten free products that that might or does have gluten free oat contamination. For me, I believe it caused the same, if not worse, reactions as gluten. I had a repeat scope and biopsy 1 1/2 years after I was... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction After A Year Plus Of gluten-free
Roda replied to beebs's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My reactions have definately gotten worse and changed! I used to get constipated and have horrible reflux. Now I bloat up so bad and end up with violent D and steatorrhea. -
ARCHIVED Ok So Now We Continue To Wait
Roda replied to cassidyred's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How are they going to treat the ulcerations? With the doctor stating it could be the early start of celiac, I'd be inclined to try the diet. Why does she want to wait until there is more damage. What kind of symptoms were your children having? There are some people that don't have ouward symptoms that indeed have celiac. love2travel comes to mind. -
I always had very weak nails and they would peel and break easy. Since addressing my vitamin/mineral deficiencies, (for me it was vitamin D, iron and ferritin) my nails are as strong as ever now.

ARCHIVED No Test For You!
Roda replied to Nancy19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your TSH is low which ususally indicates hyper. If you are still feeling hypo with it this low then you need to look further. Standard thyroid tests should include TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibody tests (I believe there are two or three). You could have a problem converting the T4 meds to the active form of T3. I presented to my current endocrinologist... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Scheduled
Roda replied to Duhlina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I say go back on it too. A month in some people could make a difference. Keep a log of your symptoms and reactions though in case it gets too bad and you can't make it eating gluent until the scope. Or you can use it as diagnositic info. -
ARCHIVED Are These Products Really Gluten Free?
Roda replied to suziq0805's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was thinking the same thing. Out of your list we have not had the classico pasta sauce or the rice bowls. We have tried the Kinnikinick K-toos and animal cookies and loved them and no problems. We also tried one flavor of enjoy life cookie, while no reaction, we didn't like them. As for the rest of the list we have and do buy and eat those without incident... -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
Roda replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get the flu shot. I work in a hospital and x-ray patients all night long that are coughing, have nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. I also don't want to take it home and expose my kids. They usually get the flu shot also, but I forgot it last year. I took oldest to the doctor last season thinking he had strep and nope, he tested positive for the flu on... -
ARCHIVED Flattened Villi
Roda replied to Jessica N.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a postitive blood work and flattened villi, that is classic celiac diagnosis. Maybe they meant the biopsy was negative for other things, like h pylori and cancer. -
ARCHIVED 8 Year Old Sneaking Food With Gluten In It!
Roda replied to happygfmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have girls but have two boys that are gluten free. My youngest son went gluten free last Nov. He was 5 when he was diagnosed. Almost a year later he is doing great. He has learned to advocate for himself and realize it is alright to tell adults no when it comes to food. My 10 1/2 year old son is doing a gluten free trial (no diagnosis) and I... -
ARCHIVED Warning For Blue Bell Ice Cream Lovers!
Roda replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted Blue Bell just the end of last month and they sent me two gluten free lists. Here is their contact number. The representative I spoke with sent me them via e-mail. It made one happy 6 1/2 year old little boy. Now he is able to buy an occasional icecream treat at school. Consumer Relations Blue Bell Creameries, L.P. 979.830.2192 ... -

ARCHIVED Help With Pathology Reports?
Roda replied to millersinkenya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to disagree with Josh B (sorry Josh, not picking on you at all). He is right in the fact that the blood work is more unreliable in children giving more false negatives. I'm not sure how much more suggestive your report needs to be except with total villi blunting. And I aggree with you if indeed it is celiac from 1.5 years ago, the damage may very... -
ARCHIVED Help With Pathology Reports?
Roda replied to millersinkenya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry that you have been going through a hard time with your little one. As Raven said his pathology reports are consistent with early changes associated with celiac. In the absence of other illness, then your doctor should have given the diagnosis of celiac and saved your poor child a few years of misery. You did the right thing by requesting his... -
ARCHIVED Gas-X Not Gluten Free
Roda replied to mkhoobyar's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't feel confortable taking the gas-x prevention. It clearly states on the lable contains wheat. Granted it does state less than 20 ppm, but I will avoid it just because it has wheat in it to some degree. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I take the gas-x soft gels and have never had a problem with them. I feel comfortable... -
ARCHIVED Processed Meat That's Produced In A Gluten Free Facility?
Roda replied to Joe0123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you buying pre packaged or getting it sliced at the deli? I only buy prepackaged now because there is to much risk of cross contamination from the deli.
