ARCHIVED Question Re Testing Family Evey 3 Years
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is meant for people still consuming gluten. When I was diagnosed I didn't take the whole family gluten free. All our meals we ate together were but everone else still ate regular bread etc and the kids ate lunch at school. I did have both my boys screened and they were negative right after. Neither of them "seemed" to show any symptoms at that time... -
ARCHIVED "will I Have To Be Gluten Free My Whole Life?"
Roda replied to come dance with me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest son has been asking about this too. -
A lot of people have gallbladder issues before and after celiac diagnosis. I developed gallbladder issues after I was gluten free. Mine is functioning slightly above the threshold of appx. 35% so I wasn't a surgical canidate. It bothers me once in awhile if I consume to much fat, but otherwise I am fine right now with it. Glad you found out what was bothering...

ARCHIVED "will I Have To Be Gluten Free My Whole Life?"
Roda replied to come dance with me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Before my youngest son who is 6 1/2 went gluten free, he loved to eat my Udis bread. After he went gluten free all of the sudden he didn't like some of the things he did before. I believe he was dealing with the emotional aspect of it in his own way and by "refusing" to eat things he liked before gluten free (he thought it was fun to share mom's special... -
ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well we went to the appointment last week. The doctor seemed pretty smart and took our time with us and he is going on Aug. 17th for his scope. Mind you I was sleep deprived at the appointment so what seemed to make sense then, may not now. Here is the gist of what she had to say: thought that something should show after being tested three times on bloodwork... -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Begin?
Roda replied to eah4me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Both my kids have had alot of cavities in their baby teeth despite good oral hygeine. My youngest son just cut his bottom 6 year molars and the one came in with a cavity in it. He had it filled on Tuesday. The dentist had a really hard time because of the soft/discolored enamel. We figure he is in for a long road with his permanant teeth. Even with all... -

Roda replied to eric4015's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you have a smart doctor!! -
I agree with Takala. You were diagnosed celiac. Being on a gluten free diet for 1 1/2 years and then having the biopsy/blood work (if doing the diet correctly) will give you a negative result. Two days on gluten is not going to change anything on the testing. What this proves is that you are doing good and that your current GI doctor is an IDIOT!!! ...

ARCHIVED Where Do I Begin?
Roda replied to eah4me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
WARNING...THIS IS LONG I would get her retested(blood work) while she is still eating gluten. As for a scope/biopsy that is a very personal decision. You can test negative and then test positive down the road. That is what happened to my youngest. Your story with your daughter sounds similar to my youngest son who is now 6 1/2. He broke out in a rash... -

ARCHIVED Can You Get A False Positive For Celiac (Ttg)?
Roda replied to chisket's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First off did she have the test ran at the same lab? Different labs can have different reference ranges. For example: my youngest son tested low positive(16) also on his ttg in Nov. 2010. The reference range for that lab was greater than 15 positive. The lab where I had mine done has a reference range of greater than 19 positive. I put my son (he is... -
Great news. Seeing progress like that makes all the hard work worth it!

ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks everyone. The doctor's office called today to inform me that the doctor had a meeting to go to after our appointment. The secretary told me they had the patient before us cancel and asked if we could come then. If not, she felt it would still give the doctor enough time. Well, given that I waited almost 2 months to get an appointment I took the... -
ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only a few more days until our GI consult. We go on Thursday. He has had his ups and downs and I hate keeping him eating gluten when I know in my heart it is causing him grief. He still is complaining off and on that he does not feel good, that it is his stomach that hurts. He came out of bed tonight whinning, almost on the verge of tears saying he didn... -
ARCHIVED Not So Good News From Dentist
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm all for sealants, I had them put on my oldest son's teeth when they came in. Problem is that the tooth came in with the cavity already in it. He went to the dentist today to get it filled and a cavity in his baby tooth filled also. I told the dentist to put whatever filling in the tooth that she felt would be best. He came out and the dentist put... -
ARCHIVED Is There Something Called "contamination Celiac"?
Roda replied to ljgs's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sometimes I find that people believe things because that is what their doctor or healthcare professional tells them despite evidence to the contrary. I unfortunately see many people like this. It's sad the the medical profession is so misinformed about celiac. I was at work this weekend and a coworker and I were talking about varrious things. I was... -
That is next on the list. Both boys want me to make it. I never liked it so it will be just for them.

Abdominal Cramping Post Ct Scan With Barium
Roda replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Even with the gluten free contrast diarrhea can be a side effect but there is also a chance what you got wasn't gluten free also. Stay well hydrated. It is not abnormal to have whiteish stools as you pass it. If your symptoms don't ease up after several days you can always consult your doctor. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Candy List Posted On Line Of Safe Candy?
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our fail safe candy when all else fails is starburst and skittles. They both say gluten free on the package. Jelly belly jelly beans says gluten free on the package also (last time I checked anyway). Tootsie products are gluten free..they have info on their website. We have never had a problem with the afformentioned brands. My youngest son is not a... -
If moving out isn't an option right now then buy and make your own food and keep it under lock and key in your bedroom or somewhere noone can get to it and contaminate it.

ARCHIVED Aveeno And Other Oat Cosmetics

I steer clear of any body product that has oats in it because I react violently to even gluten free oats. I used to love Aveno for my dry hands, but I won't risk it at all. -
ARCHIVED Dental Issues With Baby Teeth
Roda replied to organicmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 6 year old son had four cavities in his 2 year molars and had to have them filled. He was between 2.5 years and 3 when he had the first two done. Our regular dentist was uneasy doing the fillings since he was so young so we were referred to a pediatric dentist. Their policy was to have the child go back alone. Not even an hour later he was ready to... -
ARCHIVED Devigest & Syntol Defeat Celiac Disease?
Roda replied to Ester41's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
NO, NO, NO she should not start eating gluten again. While digestive enzymes and probiotics are beneficial and often helpful, they will not enable her to eat gluten again. It's a shame that there are companies that pray on people like that. She needs to stay gluten free. -
OMG!! I made homemade cookies and cream icecream and it was fantastic!! I had two happy kids and I was pretty excited to eat it since it has been probably over four years since I had any. I made a regular batch of vanilla and then folded crushed Kinni Too chocolate sandwich cookies in it. I really need to quit experimenting..my thighs are not going to...
