  1. Our pediatrician refused to order the blood tests after I was diagnosed. We were already seeing a pediatric allergist/immunologist for both of the boys so all it took was a phone call and an explanation and the order was faxed no questions asked. You could go in with all the information and present it to the pedi and if they still refuse, definately find...
  2. Try Kind bars. I love them and to me are much better than Lara Bars.
  3. My vitamin D deficiency was detected Jan. 2009 and it was at 17. I have been taking 50,000 iu weekly since. My last level was 60.
  4. Well my oldest boy is going in for his scope and biopsy tommorow. I had forgot last month to ask the doctor how many samples she would take so I asked her nurse before we left(I was very sleep deprived that day). She said five. I thought not enough but better than most I hear about on here. Then she proceded to tell me that one would be taken in the esophagus...
  5. I agree with weluvgators. I don't regulary post on the super sensitive category, but I do read others stories and have got some useful information. It helped me a lot last year when I was trying to figure out why I was having reactions for 8 months. Weird thing is my gluten reaction changed also. I was faced with taking steriods at the time and I was...
  6. Thanks guys. It's just nice hearing from others. He is pretty excited and I've been excited for him. He has stayed away from home for a week and half summer of 2010 with my parents but that was before he was gluten free. Funny it was after his stay there (he was there a total of 2.5 weeks after the rest of us went to stay) that I started noticing he...

    ARCHIVED Nutella

Yum! I want to try that. I know I will be hunting down some hazel nuts now.
  8. I have eaten at a FATZ pretty sucessfully. However this was well over a year ago before I became more sensitive. The wait staff was great and if they had a question they went and asked the chef/cook. I had the waitress even come back and told me that the chef would be more than happy to make me some safe FF in a seperate pan/oil. WOW! I decided to go...
  9. Since you said you are IgA deficient then the IgA versions of the celiac tests are useless. Make sure they order the IgG versions of tTG and deamidated gliadin peptide(DGP). If you decide to get a scope/biopsy make sure they take a minimum of 6-8 samples(someone on here posted that some celiac authorities are recommending 8-11) from different spots in the...
  10. My 6 1/2 year old is going for his first sleep over since going gluten free this Friday night. I knew eventually this would come up so I hope I'm prepared for it. The nice thing is the girl across the street (she is 13 and like one of my own) is friends with and staying the night with the boy's sister. She has been friends with us for almost five years...
  11. My 10 1/2 year old is going for his biopsy on Wed. We opted this route for him because he has repeatedly tested negative on blood work and my husband wanted to exhaust all the testing before we put him gluten free. He just finally outgrew his shoes. He wore a size 2-2 1/2 shoe for over 1 1/2 years. He hasn't fallen off the growth chart but is slowly going...
  12. Yes I would get her evaluated by a GI specialist. From my understanding there is a higher false negative rate on the blood tests for children. Both my boys tested negative after my diagnosis. My youngest son who is now 6 1/2 (had many symptoms as a baby, but I wasn't diagnosed at the time then later he had no symptoms) started having symptoms last June...
  13. At least your kid's doc finally did the test. A month after I was diagnosed I asked my children's pediatrician to test my kids. He REFUSED! I was so angry. Luckily (or not so lucky) my kids were seeing a pediatriac allergist/immunologist at the time and he ordered the tests for me no questions asked. At that time both the kids tested negative on blood...
  14. My son was wanting "something" to eat the other day and I told him to go look in the fridge and pantry. He can have anything in the pantry except the stuff on the top shelf. He kept refusing all of my suggestions. He finaly said that he knew what he wanted but wasn't able to because it was on that top shelf. I felt bad for him. I told him that it was...
  15. There are plenty of children who test positive on blood tests..There is a higher rate of false negatives though.
  16. We eat Kraft Jello all the time without incident.

    ARCHIVED Caffeine?

I try to keep the caffeine to a minimum. I don't drink coffee at all and do not consume any soda with caffeine although I don't drink much of it anyway because the carbonation kills my stomach. I may have unsweetened iced tea or chocolate occasionally and that's it. If I consume too much I have breast pain (I have fibrocystic changes) and my heart rate...
  18. This is the reason I haven't braved the blizzards either. Next time I am there I may ask about this very thing and ask if all of the stir ins are next to each other.
  19. Well here is the thing with me. I can not eat certified gluten free oats at all! I reacted horribly to BRM. I also discovered that I can not eat any product that may have gluten free oat contamination in them. So that means all BRM products and anything else that may contain traces of them are out. I don't believe in my case that it is a matter of those...
  20. My now 6 1/2 year old had a weak positive on his ttg last November. I opted out of doing the biopsy on him at that time. My husband regretted that decision but I wasn't willing to put him back on it for three months to "maybe" get a positive biopsy. He was gluten free for 4 1/2 months when we decided to do a gluten challenge. Lets just say that it didn...
  21. I believe inulin is derived from chicory root.
  22. We have been eating crepes and using them as sandwich wraps. School starts Wed. for us so it gives us something new.
  23. Maybe you can find something on here... Open Original Shared Link
  24. Sounds like you have cc potential everwhere. I am very strict where anyone can eat gluten things. Hubby is really careful. When both boys ate regualar bread they had to stay at the table and when done go wash hands and the table washed down. Now the only thing that is contaminated is the hubbys small area of the counter (he is the only one who uses it...
  25. Another thing to consider is that your "glutened" symptoms may have changed. Mine sure did. For about the first year after I went gluten free if I accidently got glutened I would start off with reflux then be constipated for about 4-5 days. After that I spent the next 8 months of 2010 chasing down other reasons for new symptoms: belching, reflux, pinching...
