  1. Recieved this response from Glutino today:
  2. They are good. No wonder last year when I was having issues I felt bad after. I thought I was reacting to the sesame seeds. I just started eating them again in the last few months. I'm such an idiot. Just goes to prove that you can't assume anything and not let your guard down for one minute. Even after three years I still have things to learn! I...
  3. This could explain a lot for me. DUH..never checked..this sucks!
  4. In time it will get easier and will be second nature for both of you. My youngest son was 5 almost 6 when he was diagnosed. A year later he is emotionally managing well. It was easier for him, at least at home, because they were used to me being gluten free and would eat plenty of gluten free food. You may want to consider getting all first degree relatives...
  5. I thought it was recommended to be consuming gluten for appx. 3 months to insure a better chance of diagnosis.
  6. You may want to consider testing while you are still consuming gluten. Blood tests include: total IgA, IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutiminase) and IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide). There is about 20-30% false negative rate on these. Some people never test positive on blood work. You also could consider an upper scope(EGD) with biopsy. They need...

    ARCHIVED Advice

Your blood tests are likely to be negative now since you have been gluten free. If you want tested it is recommended to consume gluten for appx. 3 months at the equivilent of 3-4 slices of bread/day. Even then there is still a chance of false negative.
  8. NOPE! I would not take it so I could deliberately eat gluten. If there was something to help in the event of accidental ingestion of gluten or CC, without horrible side effects, then maybe.
  9. No desire to cheet. I would be so sick and couldn't function.
  10. The "supposed person" was around the Asheville, NC area. I didn't buy into it at all. The lady still tried to convince me, but after I got "firm" with my stance on the subject, she stopped. I very rarely go there anymore. The also opened up a vegetarian restaruant beside it that offers gluten free also. I'm hesitant on trying it because of the general...
  11. The swelling and hives definately could be related to your wheat allergy. You also could have celiac also. As far as the allergy you should avoid the wheat. You don't want to chance having a worse reaction. If you are celiac or gluten intolerent you need to avoid in addition to wheat, rye and barley also. Some people are sensitive to gluten free oats...
  12. I would go gluten free based on your findings on the biopsy. You deserve to feel better.
  13. Still wouldn't hurt to get the thyroid checked as well as your vitamin D, iron and ferritin. Along with the low blood surgar all of those I mentioned can cause fatigue.
  14. I get the same reaction from gluten free oats as I do gluten. I do believe it caused the gastritis and ulcer I had last year. I react to gluten free oat contamination in products also. I'm with dilettantsteph, I have slightly different reactions to low CC over time than if I overtly get a big dose of gluten all at once. Eventually the low level CC will...
  15. Diagnosed with hashi's in 2000 and celiac in 2008. In hindsite I do believe I had subtle celiac symptoms as early as 1996. My bad symptoms of celiac started in 2006. As for the hashi's It was evident on ultrasound in 1997(unofficial scan..was a guinea pig for our dept. I did get blood work after and was "normal")so at that time I was still euthroid. ...
  16. Age diagnosed: 36 Period of time gluten-free: 3 years 90% after 1 year I had a set back at about 1 1/2 years after I went gluten free for about 8 months. I discovered that I was reacting to gluten free oat contaminated gluten free products. Within three months I was back to normal. Having a minor bump in the road now but think I got it under control...

    ARCHIVED Was I Wrong?

Yes, I do believe it was taken wrong because of my mom just before, telling him to be careful. My husband does still eat gluten, and is very careful. There is a dedicated area just for him and therefore my parents. Luckily he has now gotten over it and we have been having a good time. I worry because there are threee of us in the house and I want my boys...
  18. Have you replaced any worn non stick pans, wooden spoons, cutting boards, pasta strainer, toaster, waffle iron, baking ingredients/spices & herbs etc. that may have cross contamination? These things can slow down progress if you are using them, since they can't be cleaned of all trace gluten. Also is your makeup, lipstick, lib balm, lotion and other...
  19. All of those things are complete bunk. We have a new health food store and I went in looking for some gluten free items. The lady at the desk started telling me about another customer that was able to "cure" her celiac through a doctor just over the mountain from me. She wanted to know if I wanted the info. I respectly declined, telling her the only cure...
  20. When he is able to take in food, it may be better to eat a little more bland with minimal seasonings maybe stick to non iodized salt and pepper. His poor insides need time to heal.
  21. My parents are here for a visit. I really enjoy their company, but obviouslly I offended my father. I've decided since there are three of us in the house that are gluten free that no guests have free access to my kitchen. This is to avoid CC. Everything was fine until breakfast yesterday. My mom had fixed my dad breakfast with regular toast. They had...
  22. Taco seasoning is fine. I was having this problem without consuming it. I have been feeling pretty good lately.
  23. Are you strict about gluten free? Do you cook for yourself or does your parents? Have the necessary precautions been taken to minimize/eliminate cross contamination?
  24. I don't think the genetic test is necessary at this point. You have a firm diagnosis from the biopsy. Besides, the gene test can't rule in or out celiac. There are people that have celiac and don't have the most two common genes associated with it. If you do have the associated genes, that doesn't mean you will develop the disease, just higher risk. ...
