  1. Glad to see someone use the term brain fart! Once again, this forum makes me feel like I'm not alone! LOL
  2. I got glutenned heating food in and unclean microwave, and the food was covered. I wouldn't let her use it. Absolutely new toaster.
  3. Welcome. Can answer your questions better with more info. Are you an experienced cook or not? Will you be sharing your house with gluten eating people? Keep it simple at first. Fresh fruit, veges, meat and fish, eggs, ect. Some processes gluten-free foods are good - and some are horrible, but it would help to know where you're at now.
  4. Just a note to say congrats! Let us all know when you bring him home.
  5. I had uncle bens long grain and wild rice Thurs and have been sick since. The package list " hydrolyzed corn/wheat/soy protein" and I took a chance that it wasn't wheat. I thought they had to label it. Anyone else get sick from this? I'm staying away from it.
  6. Thank you! I am constantly using too many spoons and lamenting the fact that I just can't get as much done in a day as I used to and, that all my time seems to go into thinking about or preparing food. Maybe I'll slow down and accept the limited spoons that I have. Maybe I'll be a little happier.
  7. I've been gluten free for 6 months, and my glyburide (for diabetis) has gone from 2 pills a day to 1/2 a pill a day. My new prescription will be 1/4. I can't wait till it's 0! But, my blood pressure meds will not go down, so, who knows?
  8. I haven't converted too many recipes, but was successful by upping the baking powder/soda and adding xanthan gum. Being diabetic, I watch the empty carbs, so I don't bake often.
  9. That's the trouble. I want to gain wieght but eat healthy. I think I feel good enough to start excercising again. That should help. And maybe I'll try Ensure. Thanks.
  10. I've gone to a couple of the Raison Rack meetings and really enjoyed them. Hopefully, I can get there tomorro. If you go, look for me. I'm the skinny one. LOL!
  11. My non-celiac DH and I live in an almost gluten free house. Exceptions: Sandwhich bread for his lunches. But sandwiches are made in one part of the counter on a plate. Individually wrapped snacks for his lunch. An occasional frozen pizza for him. Other than those, I cook everything gluten free, and he enjoys our meals. It took me awhile to relearn...
  12. Yolo- You mentioned cleaver in your post. Is this the same thing as sticky willy? It has taken over my property and killed most of my berry bushes. In trying to find a safe way to get rid of it, I found it has medicinal value, but no good info on for what or how to use it. If you have info on the good properties of this pest, please let me know. There...
  13. My garden is coming along nicely. Planted a little late this year but, it's better than last year when I was to sick to plant! I'm trying something new this year. It's called the Three Sisters and involves planting corn, runner beans, and squash together. Anyone ever do this? Please let me know.
  14. Anyone out there from the Canton Ohio area? It would be nice to know.
  15. Ditto Missysmom. I went from 110 ( 5'4") to 86 lbs. That is every bit as bad as being overwieght - I looked anorexic, even though I was I was wating plenty. I felt tired and weak. I cried when I got an accidental glance in a mirror. Since going on the gluten-free diet, I've gained 10 lbs. When I get too 100. I'm going to have a PARTY! gluten-free...
  16. I was a lurker for a long time, too, so welcome. If not for this forum, I would still be very ill so a big THANK YOU to everyone. It just keeps getting better, and I hope it will for you.
  17. Sorry about that! Any way, dx based on the presence of psuedocysts and a dilated duct. Everyone that I've talked to with this problem is in a lot of pain. so, do I have it or not? Another reason to not trust docs! I'm so sorry for your pain and hope you find some relief.
  18. I've had acute pancreatitus twice ( 15 years apart) and now doc has dx me with chronic pancreatitus. I don't get it, though, because I eat whatever I want (gluten-free) and never have problems. No D, no pain, no symptoms.
  19. Sorry that I haven't had time to post, but I'm still watching a still hanging in there! Susan
  20. You're so right about the ethnic stores. I drive by a little Indian store on a regular basis, but never knew it was there untill celiac. It was an unassuming storefront at a weird angle to the street, and I have never seen it advertised. Rice flour at our local health food store runs almost $4.00 per lb. At the Indian store, I can buy a 4 lb. bag for ...
  21. Sorry to see your'e having so many problems getting started, but I think your'e seeing it as harder than it is. In time, the diet will be second nature, but we probably all felt bewildered and confused at first. Stick to basics. Fry a hamburger, stick some frozen f.f.( gluton free-not all are) and open up a bag of salad mix. Not the kind of meal I ordinarily...
  22. I should have given more info. I'm a thin type 2 diabetic. I am prescribed Glyburide 5 mg twice a day, but cut down to one a day several months ago. Here's what I normally eat in a day: Breakfast- 1 egg vege omelette or some fried mush and a little sausage. Snack- A piece of fruit and a few crackers. Lunch- A bowl of vege soup with a little...
  23. I had to relearn how to test pasta when I got dentures, not celiac! Couldn't feel the pasta with false teeth! Now, i pinch it and can tell that way. LOL
  24. I have been diabetic for two years but, when I went on the gluten-free diet, my blood sugar readings started coming down. Fasting readings have run around 80 to 100, which made me very happy. Lately, my readings are in the 50's, and I'm begining to wonder if that good or bad. My post eating readings are only getting up to 110-120. I only concerned myself...
  25. So sorry to hear of this loss and will pray for the family. I had a rough childhood and many dark moments in my youth. My heart goes out to all. If only they could have seen the bright moments ahead. Susan
