ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
ranger replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ballcock, ballcock. Yes, I'm beginning to like that word. Gotta run. I've got to quick do something obvious in the house so DH thinks I did something today! Later. -
Sometimes, it seems like these can be interchangeable! LOL

Hmmm. More food for thaught!

I wish it were that way here. It would make life so much easier. I have also read that not only is wheat a fairly new food source, but that "modern" wheat is genetically engineered for various reason ( mostly profit) and that is part of the increased intolerances. Anyone know more about this?

Hi. I am new to this. I am compltely devoid of humour - humourless - notin's funny - don't even have a funny bone. I need something funny in my life. Mind if I hang here for awhile? Maybe its contagious and I can 'catch" humour. If I don't come down with it in a reasoable time, I'll remove my grumpy, old ass from here. Promise! Susan -
My DH is suppotive in that he eats gluten free at home and will occasionally is interested in discussing celiac, but that's about it. Kudos to you! I often wonder what I would do if something happened to me that caused me to not be able to cook, like illness or a hospital stay. I keep some "emergency" rations, but not enough to sustain me for long, and...

ARCHIVED So Frustrated With Getting Glutened.
ranger replied to arkoflove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty sensitive but use BRM with no problem. My money is on oatmeal as your problem - my reation to one of my all-time faves, oatmeal cookies, was as bad as gluten before. I went gluten free. I've been gluten free for 8 months and still have not tried oat. About eating out. I have a couple of restaurants that I trust but I wouldn't step foot in... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Excited, Going Back To School!
ranger replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You can do it. My daughter got pg and dropped out of high school in her senior year. Got average grades ( she was smart, but not motivated). She's 42 now, got her GED last fall, and started in college. After 2 semesters of full-time, she carries a 4 POINT AVERAGE! I'm so proud of her. BTW, son graduated from Yale. Same Mother, same Father. Go figure... -
I have both types of canners and each has its place. I use the water-bath canner for tomatoes and fruits. I think it gives a fresher product, but it is kind of cumbersome because of the large amount of water used. It can get quite heavy. I use the pressure canner for low acid foods such as green beans or meat. Its easier to use as it doesn't require...

Do you have a recipe for an almond pie crust? I'd like to try that.

Read on this forum a topic on symbalta (sp). I was considering taking a med for another reason, but after reading about the difficult withdrawals, no way. -
ARCHIVED Uncertain
ranger replied to BettyinMD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doc did not want to test me for celiac, but I insisted. With your history, testing would be a good idea, but you will have to injest gluten for awhile first. I had been on a gluten-free diet for a month before testing and, of course, tested negative. That was before I got on this forum and I was ignorant about all things celiac. At this point, it... -
We've been eating zucchini - only put in 3 plants, so doubt if I'll have enough to put away. The critters are stil getting in there, so no lettuce, chard, or green beans ( normally, I can green beans). Roma tomatoes and beefsteaks just started to ripen. I'll can them plain so I can use them anyway I want through the year. Peas all done. Love them, but...

ARCHIVED Recipe For Co-worker
ranger replied to lcremin86's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have to agree with most- I wouldn't eat something a co-worker braught in. I finally had to tell my own daughters to stop bring me homeade gluten-free stuff. I love them, I appreciate the thaught, but I won't eat it. Know one really understands how careful most of us has to be. So, take her prepackaged, or flowers , or wine, ect. And she'll really... -
ARCHIVED Anyone In Cleveland/akron/canton?
ranger replied to Curly8's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi. I live in Canton and have found several safe restaurant to eat in. I've been to the meetings at the Raison Rack, but mornings are bad for me. I shop there all the time. There's also the Mustard Seed Market near Akron, but R Rack has the best seletion of gluten-free stuff. Several mainstream groceries also offer gluten-free stuff, and there are... -
I don't know anything better than exercise to battle anxiety. Don't care for drugs, and studies have shown that exercise is as beneficial as drugs when it comes to anxiety and depession.

ARCHIVED Disappointed, Irritated, Depressed, Miserable
ranger replied to hermitgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's a terrible and unneccesary way to get glutened. I hope it passes quickly - Mine usually last 3 days. The problem in Ohio is that the pharmacy board is manned by pharmisists! Something like the old fox guarding the henhouse. Very few complaints are ever acted apon. Check your states regulations. Hope you feel better. -
Thanks,Jen, I will quit, but I know I need the patches. I also have to learn how to deal with stress. The stress is always there and will be there but I am in such a rut and don't have good coping skills. I almost wish I had something like valium, but I hate taking drugs. Maybe I should consider that for a short time. It seems to have helped several...

I haven't posted for awhile because I FAILED! Today, I sat down and read all 16 paged in this topic and decided to 'fess up. This is just awful! It started with me "sneaking" a cig here and there. And then those got closer together, till I was back to my old level. Then, the price of tobacco shot up, and we discovered pipe tobacco was still cheap. ...

ARCHIVED New Here
ranger replied to SunnyJB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please don't be so nervous about the endo- it's literally a piece of cake. But, even if you test negative for celiac ( which many have), try the gluten free diet. If your husband balks at first, when he sees the improvement in your symptoms, he'll come around. At least, most seem to. It was confusing to me at first, so I can imagine how confusing it is...
